I was the first Spartan. And I will be the last. Mythic on 9/1/2012 never forget
PAX 08, Third Team against Luke and Shishka, AR dual to
the Death, won by one point... Assembly hasn't changed.

urk: "This is a bad idea."
DeeJ: "Hold still..."

Ok, so, I personally do not like elites.

They look ugly in Halo3 as apossed to the Halo2 and HaloCE Elites, becaused of there heads being bent down. This does make them the right highth, but makes them look bulky.

However, were Bungie to give the Eiltes the Honor Guard Perm as an option in reach, I would instantly switch to an elite and possibly never switch back to a spartan.

On the other hand, were the spartans given the full Mark V as an option, well, you get it.

It all has to do with look, what you think you like the most, or which armour you prefer.

There never was nor has there ever been a problem with the elites, except for their Halo3 armour perms.

Just like people complain about the AR being a noob weapon. Its not, why? because it takes skill to get the aim right, how do I now this? becuase I have been rush a number of times with people swinging their AR thinking it will kill me, it dosn't. And in HaloCE the AR was one of the more difficult weapons to use, why? because even with its large clip, its accuracy was half that of the Halo3 AR.

I could say that since the BR is stronger then the AR that it "has an unfair advantage" or that because the BR doesn't take a whole clip to kill someone, or because it seems to reload quicker...

But I don't, why? because that is meaningless, I personally have made many kill by ARing players using the BR, how? because every weapon takes skill, each have their disadvantatges and their advantages. Elites are no different.

I rock the elite about 90% of the time, and i would be nothing short of devastated if the elites were not included in halo reach's multiplayer. The only qualm i have with the halo 3 elites is that their armor permutations by no means would work. If you look, you'll see that there is no way they can fit their friggen heads in there. It's silly! Same with the Rogue armor.

I really like being an elite. Playing as a spartan is just SOOOO boring. Elites are much more cool. It would be really unfair if they were removed.

  • 07.14.2009 9:36 PM PDT

I am of an open mind and I am willing to hear criticism. Also: That's stupid and you're stupid.

Elites are fair in every way, play a LAN party, and you will see this be 100% true.

I would like them to stay within the game's Matchmaking. If it truly bothers players too much to see that there is no difference, then just have a restriction on the "Hardcore" playlist. However, they should remain in every other part of MatchMaking.

Of course Elites should remain in MM, many people use them.

On the same note, Brutes should be playable too, even if they're not in the campaign playing as a brute would be so awesome.=3

ill start off by saying that i think having the elites in multiplayer is a great to touch to the game and i do not want to see it go

but go play a game of team swat agianst a team of elites and tell me they are equal to a spartan. i consider myself a pretty skilled halo player and i have played the game since the beginning and it just seems that gettin a headshot on an elite is harder than putting one on a spartan. multiple times have i followed an elite from behind and could not get a headshot at all. now i dont think its a completely unfair advantage because the better players always come out on top but there is a definite advantage to being an elite in team swat, hence why you see so many of them in that game type.

all in all love the idea, dont wanna see it go, but some minor adjustments are needed

The minor adjustments needed in SWAT are user based and have nothing to do with the character model. The only difference is that you cannot shot at the level you typically would against a Spartan. Despite all of the "BR=PRO" garbage that floats around these forums, the BR is a huge spray weapon, especially in SWAT. The Elites head is slightly offset to what people are used to with Spartans, making it harder for them to get those "pro" headshots (meaning lucky that the spread made contact as they sweep-fire).

After two games of SWAT I had no issue with this, it was simply a minor adjustment, not a character model issue. As with most of the complaints that people have with Halo3, the issue is the source of the complaint, not what they are griping about.

i hate elites but if they are in reach ban them from things like swat to make it far and work properly cus we all no elites ruin swat

  • 07.15.2009 7:03 AM PDT

That sketch of elite's in that upright posture was actually a very nice look. It would give elite's hitboxes much more similar to that of Spartans. As a person who plays almost exclusively as a Sangheili I completely support this change, and will have my other Elite brethren do the same.

On a side note, I always though the armor variations needed more variety.

Suggested armor variants.

Honor Guard (YES)
Arbiter Armor (some like the look)
A more "Brute Type" Armor (think fierce perhaps spiked)
Default
Use one of the Commando/Flight looking armors
..........
..........
..........
..........

Perhaps I'll do some sketches and make a new thread!

This picture.
Why didn't they stick with that design? It looks great! Elites should stay and it would be cool to have a Covenant side of the story. It would add length to the campaign and dig deeper into the story of Reach.

Keep Elites in. It's not our fault all the complainers suck and they can't hit them.

I wouldnt mind as long as their heads are visible from behind, I hate trying to guess where their head is from behind when im shooting at them with a sniper.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Anyone who plays SWAT and complains about Elites has never come across a really good player in their lives. You see, good players do this thing called "Strong Siding", and "Strong Siding" actually makes ANY player model 100% IMPOSSIBLE to hit from behind. ALL really skilled players would implement this. Anyway, as for me, I actually find Elites far easier to headshot. Again, we did not complain in Halo 2 when AUTO AIM PULLED YOU TO OUR HEADS. So stop complaining when YOU CANT AIM A BR WORTH S***.

Your entitled to your opinion, but when you are outright rude about it, especially when Elites dropped like Grunts in Halo 2, you aren't in a place to complain.

Let there be CHAOS!

Of course there should be elites in Halo: Reach. However they need to be fixed. Has nothing to do with aim; I'm not sure why everyone in this thread is saying that? I just watch my match in theatre and laugh as bullets fly straight into elite's heads and they are unaffected. This happens once in a while to Spartans too because of bad hit registration, but it happens constantly with elites. Theatre doesn't lie guys.

You do know one thing the Elite and Spartan player models both share is that the face does not count as a headshot right? you need to shoot the Skull so all those times you go back and look and see you hit a guy in the mouth no, that was NOT a headshot (also, try rotating your camera, guaranteed alot of those were shoulder shots.)

I think that people only hate Elites because they either simply suck at Halo and cannot comprehend having to shoot something that isn't a Spartan which is why there are still people out there that do not have the precious Legendary Completed Achievement or the other reason is because somewhere in their dimwitted skull they think that Elites somehow have an unfair advantage. Both of which are just silly claims.

I actually haven't met a single really good player who cared less that I played Elite, as far as they are concerned, they aren't gonna lose either way. Players that lose alot, also point fingers at ghosts, and shadows.

You're crazy. Why would the face not count as a headshot? Your face is part of your head. Shooting at someone's face is shooting at their skull.

Anyways, I just tested it and it worked fine. Shooting at a Spartan's face kills him just fine.

Your not shooting below the visor (at the mouth), Are you.

And I don't think you really understand, you see, your JAW is not a part of the SKULL (you would have to be fairly unlearned to not know that). And ANYONE could survive a shot in the face (ever heard of 50 Cent?)

I shot at different places. The problem with shooting below the visor is that when you hit a player near the head, their head jerks back, so (if you are using a BR) the last bullet (of a 4-shot) misses if that's where you're aiming. It still kills them if they don't have shields though.

Also, the face encompasses more than just your jaw.

"Face" refers to everything below your mouth (in terms of hitboxes) "Head" refers to everything above the mouth.

The bottom of a Spartan's visor is the bottom of a Spartan's mouth, and I have never heard of anyone shooting below the visor and getting a headshot (this is in terms of Mk VI, as although other helmets look different, the hitboxes are the same).

Anyway, I admit to the hole in the neck, that needs a fix, not so much by filling it, as moving the position of the head higher.
