Has anyone else noticed that the Index is in the center of the first circular area in the library, yet the master cheif goes up three floors to get it when he could have just reached out and grabbed it when he first started. Was this supposed to seem this stupid? ((check it out, the index really is in the first circular thing, zoom in to the center with the pistol))

The index is hovering above the centre of a pit. Its about 10-15 feet in diameter (estimated of course) from the closest point. So to reach out and grab it, MC would have to reach out 5-7.5 feet.

I bet to get the Index using Halo physics you'd have to:
Have an overshield start right near the edge of the pit, a fragmentation grenade in hand and a friend playing (in co-op) with a Rocket Launcher in primary weapon.
You'd have to run, throw a grenade near the edge of the pit, grab the overshield, jump, friend fires a rocket and the grenade and rocket explode. The split second of invincibility from the Overshield would protect you from the explosion and the explosions, if done right will propell you to the Index.

Of course this isn't possible because you don't have an overshield perched at the side of the pit and you don't have a friend clutching a Rocket Launcher. So basically, its impossible.

I'm not talking in game, I'm talking philosophy of the game. If the MC is a mere 10 feet from the index, but decides to go through the entire level full of flood instead of getting a net or a pole and grabbing the index what's the point?

and why would there be a net or pole laying around in some random place in the library?

yea, see there was a forcefield protecting the index from the flood so you have to go through the library in order to diactivate the forcefield. and if he jumped at it i dought 343 guilty spark would like it anyway, its not "protocall".

the reason the chief goes through the level is because the monitor is testing you to see if you "are worthy" of the index

The index, such a small thing to cause so much trouble.

The MC should have blown it up with a plasma grenade the moment he saw it.
