All bad-assery aside (I own 3, 1 functional) there is no reason for a bladed weapon from the UNSC. What would be the point?

Nope,The katana is just another way to put down those who either don't care about earning it or actually can't earn it.

I don't think the katana. Maybe a knife. Would be pretty cool to stab a Grunt's methane tank or an Elite in the neck.

Hush. If you’re quiet enough, you can hear it on lips of unborn babes.

Energy Sword > Katana

Are we talking in Game play here or as an armor piece? I think it would be cool to see it again as an unlockable armor piece but it would be really lame if it was in gameplay. I mean Elites use Energy Swords, why would a human use a Katana? I mean a simple combat knife would make more sense than a Katana. Atleast then you could run up and slice a Jackal or Grunt from behind or something. A Katana is too large and bulky and I am pretty sure if an Energy Sword can cut through battle ship platting it would make mince meat out of a Katana.

Armor Lock isn't overpowered. You just suck at Reach :)

Reach isn't bad, you're just a BK :)

For my gamertag, look up "Ghoulishtie"

No.

  • 07.14.2009 5:54 PM PDT

i do not accept recruitment messages

wtf is the point of energy swords then?

Energy swords do actual damage, compared to a steel blade that would be lucky if it stuck into a grunt.

The only use the UNSC has for blades is for non-combat reasons.

Even though I think the idea is stupid, I must disagree with you here. Grunts and Jackals are quite vulnerable to edged weapons, due to the lack of personal energy shielding and frail bodies. Elites and Brutes on the other hand are a different story. Bottom line the Katana is an impractical weapon, end of story.

Lets see, a plasma blade that can slice through anything. What could that do? Oh I know, slice though titanium plate armor and an energy shield.

Oh yea I forgot about jackals.

Anyway, yea I don't think I can picture a marine going into battle with a katan yelling 'banzaiiiii!!'

  • 07.14.2009 6:30 PM PDT

Just the fact you could have it on your back as a spartan was stupid. Making it usable would be retarded beyond belief.

  • 07.14.2009 6:45 PM PDT

>A normal spartan melee does 70 points of damage.
>A normal spartan melee with a bruteshot which has a huge ass blade does 72 points of damage.

Thus the huge ass katana would also only do 72 points of damage.

Would you rather have a weapon that can kill in two melee hits or a weapon that can kill in two melee hits and fire grenades?

they should have the swords from the legendary logo as useable weapon!!! like some of you guys said, as a melee attack would be pretty awesome. On the cover of one of the Halo books...The Cole Protocol i think, the spartan on the cover has a sword on his back, its pretty bad ass.

  • 07.14.2009 8:17 PM PDT

i really dont care about the katana is just custominzation so if its in or out deal with it. u know wat would be cool a combat knife to use same damage as a beatdown in campaign and multiplayer like call of duty but halo 3 since reach is about squad based spartans. who doesnt have knifes?

  • 07.14.2009 8:21 PM PDT

no katana. its a impractical weapon that serves no use in the battlefield today and certainly wont serve a use in the future of 7 foot men and dinosaurs.

thanks alot bungie. because of the katana (the most overrated sword ever) now a whole generation of 10 year old kids think there bad ass ninjas. they show no respect to feudal japan.

Totally off topic, but how is the Katan the most overrated sword ever? You must seriously be on something. In terms of craftsmanship Japanese steel was far ahead of anything the rest of the world was using up until the era of firearms.
