We all know the tuning-fork shaped dropship which made appearances in the original Halo game.
Would you like this dropship to return, or should the Phantom stay?
The Spirit looked alien, and the Phantom just somewhat like a Covenantized Pelican.
This was pre-Halo to pre-Halo 2. The Phantom wasn't really out yet.

How about it?

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

Bring back me fork! I miss the weird-looking ship.

Though I completely agree with Bungie's decision to switch. The silhouette of the Phantom is much more "Covenant."

BOTH. Elites should use the Spirit and Brutes can use the Phantom.

Yes they should bring back the spirit it was super cool.

I like the Phantoms, the tuning fork looked kinda dumb. I've seen the inside of a phantom before, and they do not look like pelicans. Just play Halo CE (custom edition)

Edit-seriously only one vote for the phantom? come on!

I think the Spirit class drop ship was a fantastic drop ship but it had several design flaws. First of all there was no centralized compartment on the craft, each member of the covenant who was on the drop ship had to either sit on the right or left side of the craft with zero moving room, which meant that they had to gear up and get ready to jump on a seconds notice. The Phantom on the other hand has a centralized compartment were soldiers can gear up, engage in warm up exercises and plan their next move.

Also the Spirit was less sturdy in combat I'm sure. It only had a central cannon whereas the two models of Phantoms we have seen have either had three (Halo 2) or one center turret and a copilot turret on the side. Also the Spirit had the left and ride side compartments which judging from their shape if one got damaged it would be the end of the craft.

They could give the Spirit an advantage by having its troop bays destructible, so you could cut its forces in half, while the Phantom's forces are clustered in one section so they would all die if you deal enough damage.

I am sure though that if one troop bay on the Spirit was destroyed the ship would be unable to get stabilized thus causing it to make a crash landing which would almost certainly result in the death of its occupants. Also the Phantom's occupants are protected by much thicker armor platting from the looks of things.

My guess would be that seeing as how the covenant became split into two factions they decided to change their transports and try to sway away from Sanghieli designs.

Spirit in my opinon was Beast.
It is a close choice though.

Spirit--- It has a cool shape, and it can easily be tweaked to where when sitting in a side seat, you can shoot some weapon that is on the ship like a small needler. The gunner and pilot still have same features. It is somewhat hard to hit with non lockable missiles, or other ground weps. It is also very good in air combat.

Phantom--- A much larger troop bay. It is somewhat safe, but if it is engaged in air combat, say goodbye to everyone on it. It is safe from ground fire, except for AA guns.

I would prefer the phantom, but i picked spirit because it is more in its time period

Who says the tuning fork will come back exactly as it was in H1? maybe it will recieve some upgrades to compete with the phantom.

Although I do agree that both should be in the game. The spirit could be the basic dropship that drops off hrunts jackals and the basic elite, but when you see a phantom, you konw -blam!-'s gonna go down! The Phantom could carry more advanced troops (like spec ops elites and hunters), and could be the 'prototype' craft. Maybe for destroying it, you would get a lot of points compared to the spirit (assuming campaign scoring will still be an option).

That actually sounds pretty cool.

BOTH. Elites should use the Spirit and Brutes can use the Phantom.

Assuming we see Brutes.
But your idea is a good idea.

I say both since i am undecided about wich one should return. But im kind of confused. Why did Bungie suddenly change the Spirit from Halo 1 to Phantom to Halo 2?, Are they both like years apart, or are they back to back like Halo 2 to Halo 3?

Read the Operation section of Halopedia - Phantom. It is a slight scroll down form the top.

I like this idea. The Phantom seems like a special response craft that can deploy special forces more easily than the Spirit.

There are two things on this forum that piss me off;
Idiots and group invites.
What's even worse, is that I can never seem to get away from either of them ¬_¬
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I would have been your daddy, but the dog beat me over the fence."

Does anyone look these things up these days? Spirit dropships where used alongside Phantoms during the Battle of Instillation 04. The only reason they never appeared in Halo CE is simple: Bungie hadn't designed them yet. You can't come up with canon reasons for everything, sometimes you just have to look at it from the real world.

This means that both the Spirit and the Phantom where and should be used during the battle of Reach. There is some speculation that Spirits where designed for mining and less so for military drop-offs, but due to their prominance in Halo Wars and Halo: CE, it is likley it is simply one of many forms of Covenant aircraft.

However, the ship could possibly do with some form of redesign. By that, I don't mean a complete change, but it could do wih some changes here and there while adhering to the initial 'tuning fork' shape.
