But we learn in Ghosts of Onyx that Mendez was sent to Onyx to train the Spartan-IIIs after he left Reach... I dont know the dates of all of this, but was there a gap between the S-IIs graduating and the S-IIIs training? there may be an unrecorded part about teh S-IIS wave 2.
Also, there is a very good chance of the games going against the books. There were no Brutes in FoR because they were not designed or planned for yet, and at the part where they are discussing their intell on the covenant, the only known species recorded were Grunts, Jackals, and Engineers. They thought there were Elites and Prophets, but they had never seen them. Brutes were not mentioned. Then, in Contact Harvest, Brutes invade Harvest. It goes against FoR entirely, but still happened. They may add a new wave of Spartans for gameplay, even though it's against the books. The S-IIs graduated in 2525 and the S-IIIs began training in 2531, so it is possible that a second wave was trained in this time, though the novels state that Halsey postponed this class indefinitely.
The Brutes were actually mentioned in FoR, though not by name, as a second leadserhip caste which was capable of commanding troops and piloting ships like the Elites. But they didn't have any info on them, which is weird because the Brutes were the second species the UNSC made contact with. That is the only example i could coem up with, but im pretty sure there are other similar contradictions in the book. It is possible we play as one of the teams you mentioned in another thread, but the two Spartans in the trailer appear to not be from teh original 150 candidates. Like you said, the S-IIIs weren't at Reach, so those two appear to be from a new wave of S-IIs.
