I think that a CG movie is definitely the only way to go. It would be almost impossible to simulate Halo accurately by doing a normal film. Master Chief is roughly 8 feet tall and so are all the Elites, not to mention the fact that there are other Covenant such as Grunts, Jackals, Brutes and Prophets (and what about those Flood thingies that explode and have more Flood thingies that explode come out?). Besides that, there wouldn't be any way to really make all the weapons and vehicles in the movie exactly like the game. Like the needler for example. There is also the subject of voice talent. I don't think that Joseph Staten (the writer and cinematics director) would feel comfortable in a Grunt suit so they would have to get actors and make models of Covenant and Flood that move and look alive and that would cost a lot of money. The cast of Halo's voice talent is great and if it were to change to actors it just wouldn't be the same. This way, the people that make the game could also make the movie(and who better to do it than the people who already design the story, music and script for the game). Everyone at Bungie Studios is talented in what they do like graphics, audio, voice talent, etc. I would definitely like to see CG movies based on the Halo books like The Fall of Reach and First Strike (especially if they follow the books accurately). It would be cool to see a Halo movie compete with the CG movie of Final Fantasy: Advent Childeren. Besides, I really can't think of any films that were based on games that turned out that great like Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter and does anyone remember Mario Brothers? It was terrible and to see a game like Halo be turned into a terrible movie would be insulting.
of course it would be insulting, almost as insulting as the thought you have pertaining to staten in a grunt suit. you do realize that all they would have to do is put the voice to the grunt in afterwards, just like they did in the game. besides that there would be a huge amount of cg in the movie anyway, but all in all a completely cg movie would be more time consuming and possibly more expensive than a live action flick. you ppl have to realize that what makes a movie suck isnt whether its live action or cg, its the talent thats involved with it. production value, actors, direction, and of course visuals. these are the things that determine the overall believability of a situation. and like ive been saying forever, but no one seems to understand, cg movies (ones not geared at kids) dont make that much money. everyone keeps singing the praises of ff:thsw, but the fact of the matter is it had painfully slow plot progression, and the characters just didn provide that humanity needed to connect with them on an emotional level. and besdies that, it was a complete box office disaster. where these problems because it was a cg movie? no they go back to writing, directing, etc. LIVE ACTION IS THE WAY TO GO!!!
