I like the concept of a movie, but here is what I think about the other failures that have occurred:
.)Don't do a storyline that has already been done, unless you're Steve Jackson. Major mistake with a lot of movies, because the producer always wants to screw with what already worked. Do a new storyline.
.)The game isn't all there is. The Halo games and books have created a whole universe, history, political and military scene, etc. There's a lot of material to find in that world. As an extension of this thought, PLEASE get off the first-person viewpoint thing. That would so screw up a movie. However, a few uses of it, like when people are sighting through a pistol, sniper rifle, or missile's scope, might not be a bad idea. In which case, actual game footage would be okay, provided it wasn't overdone.
.)CG is good, live action/CG is better, and anime won't do it justice. The games are set in a reality that looks as real as ours, so having it suddenly jump to an anime world wouldn't feel right to me.
.)MC is too good to be true. Don't get me wrong, there is always a place for heroes, and MC is definitely one of those, but the story should focus on the marines around him, or even better yet, about the machinations behind the war. If MC must be used, make it a cameo.
.)Game CG is nice, but it isn't quite good enough for a movie. Check out stills of Flood. They don't have the detail for their flesh that would be needed for a movie.
.)Flood, Covenant, and MC should be CG. Everybody else can be live.
.)Voices should be done by the original actors for all characters already created.
.)Shwartz/Diesel/Lundgren are all bad choices. They all have their places, but they should be in strictly action roles, and even's MC's role is a bit more complicated than "See, shoot, kill, rinse and repeat." No suggestions for who could do it better, though. I think a more critical question is, "Who would direct?"
.)Shayamalan is a good choice, and if Peter Jackson could take a script and make it into a movie exactly according to Bungie's storyline, he would be good. (I sorta doubt many directors would be willing to have so little control of their movie, though.)
.)Bungie should have full power of veto on everything from script to casting, to filming, to cutting room.
Now, let the flame wars begin.
