Well, ok, first off, I just want to say that, of course, if a Halo movie was to be made, it'd have to be done right. Now then, here's my opinion of what "right" would be:
If a movie was to be made anytime soon, it'd have to follow the events of The Fall of Reach. People have been saying that they could make a movie out of the game, but they couldn't put any weak one liners of love interests or anything in it. Think about that. The game is all about running around shooting things, and that wouldn't make a very interesting movie. There's no character development, no human interest side to that. Sure, they could make a CG movie that'd blow your mind visually, but the movie as a whole would do just that; blow.
So, if you ask me, the best Halo movie to make would be one that fills in the back story. The development of John into Masterchief would be a great story. After thinking about it for a while, I realized that the makers of a Halo movie could learn a lot from Sarship Troopers. The book, written by one of the greatest science fiction writers ever, Robert Heinlein, was a great story of the development of a greenhorn soldier into a well respected, kickass war hero. There were interesting characters that you actually cared about that grew throughout the book. Then some jackass comes along and makes the movie adaptation. I think we all know how that turned out. It was exciting, and maybe you cheered for the good guy in the end, but it was a hollow shell compared to the book, and to what the movie could have been if done right. If anyone of you have any doubts about what I'm saying, I'd strongly suggest you go out and read Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein. It's a great book by itself, and it actually has much the same feel as the Fall of Reach, another great book.
So anyway, if a movie is to be made, I would strongly suggest that it follow the events of The Fall of Reach. Live action would be ok, but I think CG would allow the creators to stick closer to the feel that's already been established by the game(s).
