So you guys think bungie has it's hand full...Let me tell you something...THey have finished Halo 2 so calm down. They have just set a deadline. remember htey have partnership with Microsoft. They have one of the biggest software and richest producers. Even if they started working on it now they could split up in different teams including microsoft and that way if Halo 3 were to be made then that particular team would work on it's part and the other team would work on teh movie ofcourse mark O' donnel the music producer would have to be on both teams at the same time as he produces the best music that a perosn can buy. hey does anybody else like the Halo game music. It's very interesting..No doubt about that.

And whoever suggested that Vin Diesel be in the movie....come to your senses, man! Unless it was a joke. Then I say, that was not very funny.

..... That was me..... And it was no joke. There are very few actors that play with character similar to the Master Chief. I think Vin Diesel comes much closer than many. I wouldn't want his face shown, though, like in the game. Putting a face on the Chief would ruin things. If they needed an actor to play in the suit AND do the voice as well, I'd say him. He has the bad-ass attitude and deep voice, which are needed.

And to be fair, I only suggested him as an alternative to the CG with voice-overs and the "Darth Vader" type of role suggestions...

Why don't they just use the voice of the real master cheif from the games... and then use a big buff action star or a stunt man to play the body of MC? makes sense to me if they don't want to show his face anyways... you never know maybe the dude that plays MC's voice has mad skills and he could play the part? lol

whoever said vin diesel

NO! NO! bad halo fan! NO!

have u seen xxx? isnt that proof enough that he shouldnt be allowed to act anymore at all? so for the simple fact that hollywood cannot seem to do a movie, without some big name actor that is way off from what we the fans expect, then halo as a live action movie is a dumb idea. no matter who played him a percentage of the halo fanbase would be pissssssssed off.

which leaves us with CG and anime.

while CG is a fairly new area in feature films, that arent for kids, i think final fantasy would be a red flag to that type of thing. Yes, a halo cg film could be awsome, however, its never really been done right, and usually when people do CG, more attention is paid on how real the trees look, as opposed to how awsome the movie is.

now, on to anime, i would say the safest of the 3, many anime flicks out now use CG as a way to enhance the look of it. there are so many styles and so so so many ridiculously good anime movies out there. anime usually has the visual and story aspects down without really sacraficing one for the other. style is also something usually associated with anime, and thats something that halo would need.

whichever one, if any at all is used to actually make a halo movie, it would be critical that bungie and the creators of halo are at the helm, and not some cheezy director named paul anderson or something. the deciding factor in any form of halo-ness would be bungie is in charge of scripting and have some control over the actual direction of the film as well. not just some inspired by the story by bungie. complete and total control by bungie, or no matter what it will suck. i mean cmon, the animatrix is better than matrix 2 and 3 in my opinion lol

if anything, if its not gonna be done right, dont do it at all!!!!

Yes,a halo movie would be an absolutely massive hit.I love the idea.I dream about a Halo movie.I embrace the idea.BUT FOR GODS SAKE,DON"T LET GEORGE LUCAS MAKE THE MOVIE!(or let vin diesel play the part).Live action is definatly the most sensible rout, since so many people who play halo say anime is -blam!-(not me,i swear),and the CG road could ultimately lead to heaven or hell. The people that made Final Fantasy:TSW,got a return of 50 mil for that great master peice, but they spent 90+ mil making it,And the last thing anyone who loves Bungie wants to see is the makers of Halo go bankrupt.Live action is definately the best route, financially and sensibly. And i say this next bit hoping some one will get this to Bungie,If Weta workshop makes the armor, weapons, and costumes,Industrial Lighting and Sound helps Marty with the sound and music, and Bungie,Microsoft and X producer coordinate together,a live action Halo movie could go off with out a hitch.I would estimate a 90+ mil return easy.I mean, anime has almost dropped into the "cult following" genre and CG is to expensive for entire movies.Do some research before you formulate an opinion. -DarThVEnDAK

Can't we all agree that we've all thought about a goodgame in a movie and all our ideas have been bad. turning halo into amovie would just be silly. Let bungie finish the halo series and THEN worry about turning it into a movie or not besides, we have halo 2 to worry about now so lets complete halo 2 then think about the halo movie. besides all video game movies suck. mortal kombat. Tomb raider even resident evil wasnt all THAT good final fantasy the spirits within was kinda cool. lets not exploit Halo. lets sit back and know we're enjoying something not many others know nthing about :) :)

A Halo movie would be great!

Halo has been around for a while now and millions of xbox owners have played the game to the full extent, not to mention the CPU gamers. And with Halo 2 just around the corner what better way could there be to make Halo fans dig out there loose change than a Halo movie. I can tell you right now, if a Halo movie is made I'll be right there with the millions of fans waiting to purchase my ticket.

I know many games turned into movies were bad (tomb raider, mortal kombat, etc.) but we're talking about Halo. Halo blows all those games out of the water. Of course filmmakers would have their work cut out for them but a real Halo fan would still be in line waiting to buy Halo 2 .

The only problem with a Halo movie is that you would have to see the Master Cheifs face because he takes his armor a few times.
And who started this Vin Diesel thing anyway, it should be Tobey Maguire.LOL =)

Are u kidding? their is no question that a halo movie would be an instant success! nothing could keep me away from a theater if they made a halo movie. I've read the books and honestly if they could keep the storyline focused on the books it would make a good movie. I would like to see the training camp on reach. (Drugs are bad mmmKayyyy...)

Its a damn known fact that the less lines that you give vin diesel the better an actor he is. However, as for a large person to fit in the suit, you also have to consider that the Master Chief is nearly 40! so maybe im being too cliche here, but maybe a veteran actor that is getting old, ie brad pitt or someone around his age. i know im gonna get blasted for saying it, but we need a strong lead; CG and great plot wont make this a good hit without a strong lead role. AND WHOS GONNA BE CORTANA!

uuhhhhh dude, Cortana is a computer. They could just do her Cg with the Jen taylor do the voice. she does the voice in the video game. and i think the Darth Vader thing is a good idea. Vin Diesel ans the body, and Mc's voice, casue you almost never get to see his MC's face. Oh yeah HOLLYWOOD GETS NO SAY IN THE MAKING OF THE MOVIE, ( if they ever do) CAUSE THEY WOULD F***K IT UP BIG TIME, PROBLY PUT SEX AND STUFF IN IT. but I like the idea of a blend of CG and real live action. But thats just me.

One person once stated that Bungie doesn't make films, but games. Look at the E3 SP trailer -- its a movie with a Head's-Up display.

Do I think it would happen? Meh, Bungie slammed it down like a beermug already, but you never know. As for do I think it would be good? Give Bungie 100% control over it, and their perfectionist ways would prevent them from doing anything /but/ good (you're forgetting how insane this company is at perfecting and making sure their product's superb)

There is one limitting factor, however, to the success of the film -- release dates. Most films pre-date the release date -- if that happened Bungie would most likely mess up out of fear of the deadline. Hollywood would need to ditch the budget (to a degree) and the time restrictions if they want a blockbuster.

And if they hire DiCaprio, I'll kill 'em :b

Okay, again, definitely live action and CG. As for a strong face (just in case we have to see it) and deep voice, George Clooney? And all the bagging on Vin Deisel's acting--I think MC has quite a few kinda cheezy, macho one liners in the game so Vin could do it justice (I guess). Cortana could be that chick that does the mascara commercials (say goodbye to spider lashes). Money will be no object, I mean, for god sakes its Microsoft and Bungie! And to heck with all you that thought Tomb Raider and Mortal Kombat were crappy movies because I thought they rocked!! Maybe not Final Fantasy, though.

And, off the subject a little, I saw the movie for Halo 2 at Game Crazy with the actual gameplay from an expo or something and--Holy Crap, those Ghosts can haul ass now!

OK, first I must say Im tired of having to aggressively defend my posts, and Im not going to take a shot at anyone personally, so please, give me a break, show me the same respect, and just calmy, reasonably pick apart my upcoming ideas which are perhaps... a little strange.

First to put in my two cents on Vin Deisel. Well, hes not my favourite actor... BUT, he has admitted to enjoying video games... I think it would be safe to assume that he has played Halo, or at least heard of it. Given this, I would actually think he would almost be honoured if he was given the opportunity to play the Master Cheif. As, such... perhaps... just perhaps, he would cast aside his ego or any particular 'character type' that he always tries to add to his characters, and just tries to get down to the job of trying to portray the MC as best as he can. Unfortunately, even if he did, hes still completely wrong to play the MC, for a number of reasons. The first is that the MC stands at over 7 feet tall. Vin, on the other hand, falls well short of this. John, when out of his suit, has hair (albeit closely cropped). Vin Does not... in fact, I get the feeling he'ed look quite wrong WITH hair. Most importantly of all though, the MC is around 43 years old. So as can be seen, Vin is not the right character to play the MC. It could be argued then, that simply never have the MC out of his suit, but unfortunately, if the movies were to follow the books, then there would be several times when John was out of his suit.

After giving extensive thought to actors around that age and height (yes, George Clooney did actually cross my mind) I've come to believe that the perfect man to play the MC would be... Tim Robbins. No I'm not a big fan of his, but Ive seen him in a few movies and he fits the MC almost perfectly, in and out of the Suit. For instance, consider these...
- He stands over 6ft tall... not the required 7ft, true, but not many Actors ARE over 7ft... let alone 6ft.
- He also bears a strong physical resemblence if you think about it... reasonably buff, but not a beefcake (sorry guys, but MC simply couldnt be a beefcake... all that muscle mass would slow him down considerably), and white skin that could easily be made to look as pasty as a man whos spent most of twenty years inside a suit.
- He does a good calm, even, in control voice, like the MCs.

This is, of course, assuming live action movie conditions. Onto the subject of whether the movie should be live action etc, well, Im not really too fussed, but I think I'd have to say live action (Gasp!). I dont really know why, I guess its because LOTR has shown us that these days, live action (with added CG) movies can actually have alien looking characters and huge vistas without looking like cheap plastic models or $200 scale model sets. CG on the other hand, whilst very, very good still doesnt look as good as live action, and sometimes can come off looking a little cheap (in my opinion the black guy in FF: TSW looked a little plastique-esq, and yeah, the animatrix was good, but the veins in that guys arms just looked ridiculous)

What else? Oh yeah, the script. The general concensus on this thread seems to be 'follow the storyline of the books'. Err... perhaps, since Eric Nylund wrote the books (obviously being a writer, then) he could write the sreenplay too? That would solve that problem some!!

Aside from these points, I'd have to say I agree with these also:
- No love interest (except... POSSIBLY, Kelly. I got the feeling in First Strike that these was something going on there that wasnt quite being wholly said....)
- Characters stay as who they are, no, Cortana is not a living person!!!
- No dumbing down the plot for mainstream audiences... rather, make a longer movie and explain the stuff
- Finally, as the great generalisation... NO HOLLYWOODISATION!!!!

P.s I apologise if any or all of this has been read, I started reading this from page one, but started losing willpower by about page three.

I mean we need a direct to diret talk with bungie but how? WE NEED A BUNGIE PERSON IN THIS FORUM SOMEONE WHO WORKS FOR THE COMPANY. I MEAN I WANT A HALO MOVIE REALLY BAD BUT WE NEED A FACE TO FACE CONVO. YOU GUYS KNOW WHAT I MEAN?

I think a "FACE TO FACE CONVO" would be a great idea--if the whole premise of a halo movie wasn't one of the most retarded longshots since that underdog in the Special Olympics. Seriously. It might be fun (for some) to fantasize about Halo crossing yet another genre, but it is highly unrealistic and boderline silly.
I know you asked that people who disagree with you not post, but the lack of a single voice of reason within ten pages on this thread might lead some to believe that this little fantasy might actually be reality. Which, I add if I hadn't already made it perfectly clear, it is not. Nor will it be. Life's tough. Deal.

hell yeah! i think they should base it on the Fall of Reach. and if they do another it should be based on First Strike. reason being is that the true fans have played the game and read the books. on the other hand i wouldn't mind seeing MC pumping 8 gadge magnume rounds into wave after wave of flood. if they do decide to go CG i think the bungie team should do it if they feel they should. and i think they should have the origonal voices too. thats pretty much all i have to say about that but in the mean time "watch out for the duck".

Not to sound like a nOOb douche that loves the vin, but honestly, you all bash on him for being a bad actor. it's true that the greater majority of the movies he's been in are 100% crap, but check out david twohy's Pitch Black, and for a excellent sampling of great voice acting, "The Iron Giant"

however, I too believe that vin is not right for the part of MC, I'd pick someone with a little more meat on his bones, like maybe (and please don't hate me for saying this, )
Val Kilmer...?

True, he was a horrible batman, but his age is just right and he has the voice...

I say live action all the way, but with some CGI on the aliens, I mean who other than midgits are going to play grunts. Also there should be some big name actors in it, like Vindiesel as a marine, but MC should be played by his voice talent, or do the whole darth vader thing, where someone plays his voice and someone's in the suit. A few well known actors wouldn't be bad as supporting roles. And make sure the creatures are not cheesy, or is a crappy CGI movie like Final Fantasy. Anime would be more geared towards kids and this would be a movie not for the...younger audience...well sort of. Like maybe PG-13. But if it's done bungie has to have alot of say in it, and not a stupid director like Paul Anderson who sucks monkey balls.
