OK, first I must say Im tired of having to aggressively defend my posts, and Im not going to take a shot at anyone personally, so please, give me a break, show me the same respect, and just calmy, reasonably pick apart my upcoming ideas which are perhaps... a little strange.
First to put in my two cents on Vin Deisel. Well, hes not my favourite actor... BUT, he has admitted to enjoying video games... I think it would be safe to assume that he has played Halo, or at least heard of it. Given this, I would actually think he would almost be honoured if he was given the opportunity to play the Master Cheif. As, such... perhaps... just perhaps, he would cast aside his ego or any particular 'character type' that he always tries to add to his characters, and just tries to get down to the job of trying to portray the MC as best as he can. Unfortunately, even if he did, hes still completely wrong to play the MC, for a number of reasons. The first is that the MC stands at over 7 feet tall. Vin, on the other hand, falls well short of this. John, when out of his suit, has hair (albeit closely cropped). Vin Does not... in fact, I get the feeling he'ed look quite wrong WITH hair. Most importantly of all though, the MC is around 43 years old. So as can be seen, Vin is not the right character to play the MC. It could be argued then, that simply never have the MC out of his suit, but unfortunately, if the movies were to follow the books, then there would be several times when John was out of his suit.
After giving extensive thought to actors around that age and height (yes, George Clooney did actually cross my mind) I've come to believe that the perfect man to play the MC would be... Tim Robbins. No I'm not a big fan of his, but Ive seen him in a few movies and he fits the MC almost perfectly, in and out of the Suit. For instance, consider these...
- He stands over 6ft tall... not the required 7ft, true, but not many Actors ARE over 7ft... let alone 6ft.
- He also bears a strong physical resemblence if you think about it... reasonably buff, but not a beefcake (sorry guys, but MC simply couldnt be a beefcake... all that muscle mass would slow him down considerably), and white skin that could easily be made to look as pasty as a man whos spent most of twenty years inside a suit.
- He does a good calm, even, in control voice, like the MCs.
This is, of course, assuming live action movie conditions. Onto the subject of whether the movie should be live action etc, well, Im not really too fussed, but I think I'd have to say live action (Gasp!). I dont really know why, I guess its because LOTR has shown us that these days, live action (with added CG) movies can actually have alien looking characters and huge vistas without looking like cheap plastic models or $200 scale model sets. CG on the other hand, whilst very, very good still doesnt look as good as live action, and sometimes can come off looking a little cheap (in my opinion the black guy in FF: TSW looked a little plastique-esq, and yeah, the animatrix was good, but the veins in that guys arms just looked ridiculous)
What else? Oh yeah, the script. The general concensus on this thread seems to be 'follow the storyline of the books'. Err... perhaps, since Eric Nylund wrote the books (obviously being a writer, then) he could write the sreenplay too? That would solve that problem some!!
Aside from these points, I'd have to say I agree with these also:
- No love interest (except... POSSIBLY, Kelly. I got the feeling in First Strike that these was something going on there that wasnt quite being wholly said....)
- Characters stay as who they are, no, Cortana is not a living person!!!
- No dumbing down the plot for mainstream audiences... rather, make a longer movie and explain the stuff
- Finally, as the great generalisation... NO HOLLYWOODISATION!!!!
P.s I apologise if any or all of this has been read, I started reading this from page one, but started losing willpower by about page three.
