Should there be a Halo movie? Yeah, sure, why not. The movie would have to be in CG because more can be done to a movie and its characters by manipulating them on a computer screen rather than working in reality with live actors. Plus there can be more eye candy. But eye candy isnt what makes a movie. What makes a movie is staying in the boundries of what the consumer would like and find interesting, especially if your converting something from a book or game to the big screen.
If Hollywood gets ahold of a great basis like Halo, there's no telling what could happen: The apocalypse? World War 3? George Bush gets reelected? Who knows. But there's a good chance we, as the Halo community, wont like the final product. We'll end up begin disgusted because the plot didn't go with the books and/or game or voices weren't "up to par" with their selected characters. Then when the ratings fall through the hole we'll end up remembering the "Halo movie" as a sore on the greatness we know as Halo. There's many ways the movie could be made into the equivalent of a septic tank; but only one way it could be made into a good movie: Stick with what made Halo, Halo.
I've read the books, played the game and even after all that I find there are little gaps that could be filled in by a movie. Or even multiple movies if need be. For example, The Fall of Reach was a great book but I want to see and hear more about John and his training days; a movie could remedy that. But if there was going to be a movie for each book there could possibly be 4 movies. I mean, the known 3 books and the nearly definite book that'll come out to explain the verge of the MC's attack on the covenant homeworld after Halo 2's defense of Earth. That'll lead to Halo 3. That's at least my speculation. But that's beside the point.
To get back on the discussion at hand, if multiple movies were to be made, would anyone want to put in that much time and energy into making each movie? Also, it would be a tremendous amount of money to create a series of films. But Halo couldn't just be confined to one movie, especially if the first movie in theatres is made right. Halo is just too good for that. It would have to be an intelligent mind directing and writing to satisfy the people on these forums. That would make Halo either an immediate hit or an immediate flop. If it's a hit, we can expect more movies to be made thus making us yern for the next one. If it's a flop, everything stops there and Halo is left as a movie failure.
Would Bungie be an integral part of the creation of a movie based on Halo? I hope to God. Even though they're just a game developing company I would still expect their input to be made in a movie about THIER game. Bungie made what we love so I would have full confidence on whatever they add to the movie.
To sum things up, I would whole-heartedly see a movie about Halo. Whether I would find it good or not is a whole other question. There would be too many reasons why I wouldn't like the movie if it was made, especially if it was made by some big shot Hollywood director that doesn't care about anything besides how big he can make the bulge in his pocket from that sort of opportunity. But is a Halo movie an interesting proposition? You bet your ass it is.
Now haul ass soldiers, you've got a movie to create!
