A lot of good and fresh ideas have been brought up here. I think it would be interesting to see a film in an almost documentary style (reminiscent of Black Hawk Down perhaps?) detailing the perspectives from many of the human forces during the Halo story, similar to The Flood. I would definitely like to see the other books made into stories as well. As for all the comments on actors and such, I wouldn't mind greatly if the cast was different, so long as it preserved the feel of the game's atmosphere. Personally, I think Vin Diesel would make a great ODST, so long as he didn't have to insert too much corn with his one-liners. I think live action would be best, simply to ground the story in reality. I think it would be neat to see the individual bravery of the human forces around the Master Chief throughout the story, sort of setting up the MC as the hero through it all, while not blatantly pointing him out as the protagonist (though he's kinda hard to miss ;) Ah well, just my thoughts. If they do ever make a movie, it would have to be story/character focused to make it interesting, at least more so than battle focused.
On a different note, I would also very much like to see a movie on marathon, simply because of it's superior story and depth. How many old school Bungie fans would love to see Durandal translated to film? I know I would, and yes, it would have to be adapted for pacing (such as replacing terminals with voice feed for the AI's or something), but it would truly be a jewel of a film if it was done correctly.
