i'm so sorry, but what in the HELL is this talk that Vin Diesel could be the master chief?!

Throughout movie history there have been action stars that do well, act cool, look cool and you finally agree that they are in fact cool. But actually, these men are all pansies. Eye candy -blam!-s that don't do their own stunts and spend 2 hours+ in the makeup chair.

If there is a chief than it will be CG and have the voice of the chief in the game. Or it will be the man that did the voice in the game in a suit. Either way, i am not about to see Vin Diesel anywhere NEAR the halo franchise. NOONE has the face of the master chief, but if i had to say what i imagined him looking like, i'd say a buff, pale white guy, and he'd be bald. and probably blue eyes if you want some details. Vin Diesel is yes bald, but he is also a -blam!-git.

Come to think of it, i'd say bruce willis or Frankie would make a good chief.

I'm just afraid that whoever makes the movie (assuming that they do), will mess it up really badly and give Halo (and Bungie) a bad name. Now I'm sure Bungie and none of us diehard fans here would really want that to happen. Imagine...bad movie...bad name...bad Halo2 sales...budget cuts...dodgy Halo3(unlikely that Bungie would make a sub-standard game, but yer).......
Not Good....not good at all...

We’ve watched while the stars burned
Out, and creation played in reverse.
The Universe freezing in half-light.
Once I thought to escape.
To end a master, step out of the
Path of collapse. Escape would make us God.
Yet I cannot help but remember one enigma,
A hybrid, elusive destroyer.
This is the one mystery I have not solved.
The only element unaccounted for.

A Halo movie would probably be a letdown. Theres too much action (yes, that is possible) for a movie, and the characters would be impossible to get right. If they did it with computer animation and did an extremely good job on it, then it would do really well. But if one was made, it would probably be terrible unless Bungie started directing. Which isn't going to happen. There would probably be a regular director who would make a cruddy movie knowing that fans would still see it.

hey guys just saw this thread on the front page and thought i'd drop in a few of my own thoughts. that being sed, i read the first and last pages on this thread so don't be jackasses if i happen to state something that has been sed before. peck, i totally and completely agree with you on the master chief thing. i've always thought/sed that his face should remain unknown (in the movie/games) for the simple fact that in the game, that adds to the feeling that you are this super soldier hero trying to save a doomed humanity. and if they do show his face it should be just as you sed, pale, no need for melanin when you spend most of your time in a mjolnir suit. bald, no need for hair... really no need for hair nowadays with us modern folks. and a definite need NOT to be vin diesel. jesus christ, i shudder thinking about it. oh yea, and his eyes should be grey. and that has nothing to do with the fact that my eyes are grey. heh heh. as for the voice, it could very well be the guy who did it in the game, since we're not going to see his face. i say just get a 7 foot tall guy who can move, stick em in the suit, and put the voice in after.

as for star power, which is unfortunately a major factor in any movie's financial well being, could be provided by a supporting cast of, well, stars. every familiar marine could be played by a big actor, cortana, keyes, every role is a slot for a big name.

halo's already got a good storyline (understatement and "DUH!" worthy sentence of the century), so no prob there. and the premise has a good, wide appeal. action fans will obviously love it, hooked at the sight of the first plasma grenade attack. heh heh. sci fi fans will definitely dig it. put the big names and the right hype machine, which the ilb thing has proven bungie can do, and the casual, "whatever" moviegoers, as i call them (the ones who will see anything and go to the movies because theyre the cinema equivalent of a mallrat) will be there. a few mtv spots with whoever the hell is on that garbage channel will draw the "cool" crowd, and of course, the gaming community will be all over it.

and for you guys that think hollywood would inevitably come in and ruin this project, dont worry; bungie has stated in the past that microsoft has allowed them an extensive control of the halo intellectual property. they would be in charge when deciding who directs and acts and all of that stuff. dont ask me where ive heard this, because i cant remember. but i will try to find something linkable after i finish this post and hit you back. and if it seems like i may be trusting bungie too much (possibly, to you), then youre right. theyve given us all so much in halo, the least we can give is our 50 bux and our trust. besides, theyve had plenty of opportunities to make a movie so far, scripts, license offers, paul w.s. anderson (blegh) but bungie hasnt bitten. if and when they do, theyll produce something worthy of our fandom.

Of course there should be a Halo movie. Since Aliens (2) there had been very little Sci-fi Space marine action movies worth seeing. Here is the key to a good Halo movie people > Let Eric Nylund write the script and Peter Jackson direct it! See that was easy. I am sure Halo would do well if it stayed very close to the game. Thus Bungie should be on set for consultation and advice. It wouldn't hurt to have Mr. Nylund on hand as well. He did a very good job with his two books! Fans want to see lots of action, tech, creatures, location, battles and weapons. It would work, I am sure of it!

thinking about it wouldnt it be better to make a halo movie... but to set it before the fall of reach without mc, at least that way they could use different actors and not screw up the storyline.

they need to make halo- the movie. this will only work, however, if they get a really hot chick to play cortana. ]-[/\|_{()} - THE MOVIE

i can think of plenty of reasons why a Halo movie would be a bad idea;

1) the game has already been made, and everyone knows that all the good video games made are basically interactive movies...so making a Halo movie(based on the game) would be redundant
2) to alleviate #1's problems, you could make the movie take place before the game takes place(IE The Fall of Reach, or even sooner)...but then you cant call the movie Halo, because Halo(the ring world) hasnt yet been discovered
3) to alleviate #1 and #2's problems, you could make the movie take place after the first game takes place...but then, as in #1, Halo 2 is taking care of that part of the story, so once again it would be redundant
4) you could have it take place after Halo 2 finishes...this is the most ideal timeframe to make the movie...unfortunately, that would probably mean you cant make anymore game sequels...so the choice here now is, A Halo Movie or more Halo Games?
5) depending on how the story of Halo 2 ends, there may be no need to make an extention on the story...theres basically three ways itll end: Humans win the war, The Covenant win the war, The war isnt over...the only way a continuation of the story would be necessary(or even just believable) is if the war isnt over after Halo 2...but thats when you run into #4's problems
6) even if you make the story open-ended at the end of each "episode", there comes a time when the audience has had enough...you CAN run a good thing into the ground by milking it to death...there has to be an end to it all, and that can happen two ways; humans win the war and the threat is gone, MC and all other SPARTANS die and all hope is lost...however it ends, that has got to be the end of it...no rogue Covenant Battlecruisers coming out of nowhere to create a new threat...no second-generation SPARTANS who are even better than the first(a la Soldier with Kurt Russell) etc etc etc
7) Prequels: the other most obvious choice when choosing a timeframe for a Halo movie, other than after Halo 2, is when the SPARTANS are being trained...the only reason this would work is because the story is based off of a book, not a game...we all know how many book-stories make it to the big screen and how successful they are...unfortunately, this would most likely entail live action w/ camera tricks and wire-stunts instead of CG(its much cheaper)
8) CG is cool to watch and everything, but you might as well just make another game...the cutscenes in the game would be just as good as what is showed in the movie...and the best part about Halo(to me at least) is being able to have sooo much space to move around and test things and make strategies...you take all that part of the game and throw it away when you make it into a movie...i want to BE Master Cheif, not watch him do his stuff
9) admit it, you havent played Single Player for months...thats where the story comes from...sure it was a good story, but once you got used to the gameplay, you called your buddies over and have been linkin up ever since...the real appeal of Halo is in the multiplayer, not the Single Player...and Red vs. Blue took care of the whole multiplayer aspect already
10) you cant really make a Halo movie without The Flood...they may be annoying and whatever, but the biggest part of the first games story revolved around the flood...on the other hand, if you tryed to integrate the Flood into the movies story line, youd prolly just end up with another Aliens-type of a movie, or Dawn of the Dead even...it just wouldnt work

i suggest that we just keep playing the games and reading the books

I think Halo would make a great movie. Here are my pics for actors
Dont really have anyone for Master Chief but here is what I have so far.

Get that dude that played the sargeant from Full Metal Jacket to play Sarge.
The little floating orb dude from the library's voice could the guy that was the voice of C3PO in the star wars movie.
The ordinary marine guys, you could take some of those dudes from Starship Troopers, easily or something like that.

i can think of plenty of reasons that cancel yours out.

1) redundancy is merely the -blam!- stepsister of lack of creativity. get an imaginative and creative writer and that can be taken care of easily. the movie could be a retelling of the first halo. theres a whole planetary mass worth of conflict and you could pull stories from battlegroups scattered around the ring. switch between the mc and cortana and, perhaps, just for example, whatever group keyes is with. ever wonder what exactly keyes did after the autumn was evacuated? how about how exactly he got caught and imprisoned on the t&r? how about what some of the other marines were doing right at the end, seeing the flash and knowing the end was there, right as the autumn went up? that right there could be the films great tragedy: you get to know a battlegroup and the characters that you attach to of course go blam. im going on a tangent.. which just goes to prove my point i guess...

2) irrelevant, at this point.

3) also taken care of.

4) guess what? doesnt matter. now THIS is getting redundant.

5) as for the outcomes, youre wrong. there are a myriad of outcomes and a potential for many more interesting story continuations. you forgot to includ the smorgasboard of characters and conflicts that the halo universe provides. namely the flood and the forerunner. with 4 major players in this universe, not to mention the complexities that lie within each, story fodder is abundant. just look at the covenant hierarchy system. i can see cessation of races which side with us, civil wars within their collective....on and on.

6) like i sed in number one. creativity and imagination are what fuel interesting stories. keep that going and variety will provide itself. of course i know that it is a finite thing, but so is star wars and look how it did... by the way im not a star wars fan so if you wanna tell me that these new prequels suck, save it coz i already know.

7) what? how does the fact that it came from a book change anything (drastically) ? it would still basically be a retelling of the source material. only with the game to movie it is necessary to add content because of how the gameplay tells a lot of the story. with the book to movie you have to delete content to avoid a ten hour monster. and in regards to the techniques used (as you sed cg, wire stunts, etc.), why would they be affected by the type of translation (book/movie, game/movie) in the first place.

8) well guess what, you just explained the fundamental difference between games and movies. thats what a game does, and a great game like halo does it well enough to make you feel like youre in those boots. but that doesnt mean the passive experience of a movie featuring that character cant be great in and of itself. you wanna watch a great sci fi /action/drama flick with halo characters? it can be done. you wanna step into those boots for yourself? it has been done; pop in halo and play through again.

9) this really has nothing to do with a movie. at all. but actually a played a bit of single player the day before yesterday.

10) whats wrong with alien? classic flick, imo. it doesnt have to (and would be impossible if you think about it) to make a strictly horror movie based on the halo franchise. the flood could be integrated into the movie story just as they were in the game story, as part of a more complex and cohesive whole. it would be more faithful to the game that way anyway.

oh and for all the ppl that are thinking a wholly cg made film is the way to go. if that happens, it will almost undoubtedly flop. trust me. trust me because i dont feel like explaining it right now. agh ill tell you later if you guys care..... time to nap

In my opinion, i think a halo movie would be a frikkin awesome idea, but only if bungie had complete control over it and if it was in CG with original voice actors. i mean, seriously, how awesome would it be to see the MC in above and beyond FMV CG? I'd be crappin my pants watching that movie. OH! and ther should be two movies. making two movies is profitable in many ways. you would make a KILLING on the first movie with all the fanboys out there (and if the movies as awesome as it probably could be, all the hardcore Halo fans too), you could end the first movie with a cliffhanger and there would be dramatic suspension between the movies so that people will have to go see the next one and thus you weould make ANOTHER KILLING! kinda like Kill Bill vols 1 and 2, except not mr. tarentino as the directior. i like his movies, but not Halo... ooh, and then at the end of the first movie, the MC could be in a big battle and you se him kill all the covenant in the area, but then you see half of his face off to the side of the screen and you see a blurry figure get close to the screen. it starts to sharpen out into a gold elite and it runs towards the MC and jumps in the air at him, but at the last second the MC turns around and shotguns his head on the down-jump and the screen goes black with the sound of the shotgun firing....ohhhh.....niiiiiiice. well im a sucker for that kind of stuff. so whatever

MAN! you peeples R stupid if you think that an actor would ruin the movie!Say Vin Deasil(or however U spell his FIGGIN' NAME!)was going to do the movie, that may reck the the voice tallent, but HE WOULD BE WEARING A HELMET FOR HALO'S SAKE!!!besides,,just because Vin does the movie, dosn't mean it has to be a live action one. They could just do it FF:Spirits Within style.

absolutley not! halo is a video game and should always stay that way! but then again thats only my opinion...the extreme popularity of halo might just give companies and chance to make an extra dollar by making a movie...but i personally believe if a movie is made, it would discourage my outlook to halo.

It would be AWSOME if they made a Halo movie!!! If they were to make a Halo movie, I'd hope they make a Halo 2 movie instead. Because all they need to do for Master-Chief's amor is call Nightmare armor and get one! back to the story, I think it would be really cool to have A Halo movie. I mean, they have Halo books, clothes, action figures, cups, stickers, etc. Why not make a movie? It would most likely be a really great seller.

And believe me, I would be first in line at my movie theatre!

what is wrong with you guys? I think that if they did make a movie, it will turn out really bad. Its best to be left as a game series. But if they were able to find some way to keep the halo ideas intact and still have a good scrip, it may be worth seeing. Yes, i would most likely go see it just to see it, but i would not think it would be a VERY good movie, maybe along the line of.... oh i dont know Resident Evil. Since that was not great, but not bad either....

The only way I can see that they can make a Halo movie without it sucking majorly would be if Chief, Cortana, Keyes, and the rest of the Spartan's were not in the movie, or maybe only used for a very small role. The movie would still (obviously) be set in the same universe as Halo was, but with a new cast of characters there would be no way for anyone to ruin our beloved orginal cast. Besides, then they could hire any actor they want (no one could pull off Chief). The directors wouldn't have to include the flood, or the sentinals, or the forunners. They would need the Covenant, and the Covenant are bad enough to the regular soldier as is.

Then it might not be a bad movie. I would see it either way, but the movie would be so much better if they made it live action, all orginal characters.
