At first glance, a halo movie is the coolest idea there is. Unfortunately, thats a first glance. Just consider what a halo movie would have to be.
First of all, Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo2 have been made to what some people are proclaiming the closest a game can get to perfection. I agree. This then leads the general populace to expect the best that a movie can offer from a Halo movie. This is not neccesarily a good thing. A movie can only be so long and indepth. I mean look at the Lord of the Rings movies. Many plot aspects where changed. This was, in part, because of the limits on a movies time and money taken in produsction. You propose a movie that is going to cost many more millions than other movies and investors will be a little wary of giving money to such a project. Also, the movies were different because of the simple fact that a director does not have to follow the "rules" set by the game creator about the story. A director could take the same sort of libertiyes that were taken in the LOTR movies. Not to say that those movies were not good quality, well made movies that entertained. Its just that such a movie would most likely not be a exact replica of the games, just set on film. You decide if this is a good thing or a bad thing.
Additionally, the movie expierence that a Halo movie has to offer might not be high quality. Could you stand to have the director be not very good or not dedicated to making the movie loyal to the Halo games. Maybe, instead of Master Chief being a quiet, cool, calm, and controlled man, the director might bring in a hulking movie star thats says lines akin to, "I'll be back." Or maybe instead of the ring Halo being made by mysterious Forerunners, he might turn it into a human installation to make the story more understandable to nongamers that have not played Halo the game. A movie can not be incredibly confusing, ungatifying at he end, and unfulfilling or people that went for the movie will not go again. Movie maker focus on the profits not the idea of keeping a story line straight. They just dont care if a movie is totally different than the original stary if it sell, ands i find this disappointing.

Oh yeah! A Halo movie would rock! They wouldn't even need a script cause so long as Vin Diesel is in it fanboys all over will flock! No, seriously, a Halo movie would do nothing but cheapen what Halo is. Halo is (to date) the best FPS I've ever played (although Doom 3 is really, really cool). Fanboys and noobs scream about said movie, but if you follow it through you'd realise that they wouldn't hire any worthwhile talent. Look at Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider, Mario Bros., Street Fighter, and Resident Evil. All sucked, bad. Not because they had bad actors (well, RE did, Michele Rodriguez is horrible), but because their stories sucked. I would rather not see Halo cannibalised by Hollywood.

wow. this is a useless thread (sorry to the starter). honestly. i've been reading all the posts, as i'm prone to do in my free time, and i have to say....YOU ARE ALL REPEATING YOURSELVES! half want CG, half want Live Action (anime fans....you're negligible. sorry) but really, who CARES!?!?! some of you think Diesel should be in it (i think it's not a bad idea. XXX wasn't ridiculously bad...i thought it had some goodness to it), and some don't. honestly, if you are nerdy enough to post here (and yes, I AM nerdy enough) then you'll go see the movie, regardless of whether it's live action/anime/CG. and whether or not the Master chief is in love with Cortana....or a grunt! and you'll probably go see it on opening night. but i have strong suspicions that Bungie won't make a movie...aside from the fact that Frankie said a while back that there was no plans for a movie at that time (i think. i basically take what is typed here by Bungie employees as truth concerning Halo...and all things Bungie. everything else is heresy, and i don't care about it. Bungie.net knows what's going on with Bungie before everyone else does...). I would love nothing more than a movie. I don't care what's in it, as long as there is the magical touch of Bungie involved somehow. but they can't. everyone here wants to have some part of the glory of bringing people to Halo ...well, bringing more than there are. Bungie's not in it for the glory, only for the love of the game (and taking over the world). You all want something different. It's been proposed, looked at, poked, and disected too much. Bungie couldn't do all the stuff that you guys want. HOWEVER....should they make a movie, I will go see it. and I will buy it when it comes out and i will watch it until my mind is saturated with all the Bungie goodness...and then i will watch it more. as i'm sure all of you would. course, if you don't go and see it/buy it except for some extenuating circumstances, then you probably aren't a true fan. sure you like the game...but you ain't a fan. and you shouldn't be here. course, this is (like always with me) just a glimpse into the inner workings of a 16 year old's mind...take it how you will. i'm waiting...90 days, 3 hours, 31 minutes....and counting.

Granted, all of us fanboys out here would love nothing more than to see a Halo movie. But consider this: to be cost-effective, a movie has to be applicable to the general population. True, there are many people who display interest in Halo, a few million, but to make a movie truly good there needs to be a significant amount of money infused into the production. If Bungie can't support that startup, and they have to sell the idea, we all know it will suck as a movie. Next, a CG movie would be interesting, but a lot of people avoid those things like the plague. As a general principle. They see it as kids' stuff. The Final Fantasy movie not only had absolutely nothing to do with Final Fantasy, but it was a commercial flop. I'd prefer if Bungie held onto its money to produce more great games like Halo, rather than rashly waste it on a movie that (unfortunately) Halo-virgins wouldn't want to see.

Dude why not?? I mean the concept os great although i have voiced this on the previous halo movie related forum....... I love the idea as long as some prick in hollywood doesn't get hold of it. than there will be some political thing involved making the movie suck and cortana will be made into a real person and run around naked making the movie worth seeing for that reason alone. No already famous actors either just people that havn't been discovered that just want money. CG would be better for The Flood because the chief hardly shows his face but if there was a live-action bit for Fall of reach because it's gotta show the kids....... I mean dude a 15 year old clobbering some overgrown marine on accident resultuing in his death is cool sounding. If they made a film for Halo I would definately go see it. They better use actors who actually match the description of the character, because it would be stupid if they used Halle Berry for Cortana or Sean Connery for MC. - Sgarrista

Ok, I don't know if this has been mentioned, but reading...uhh, I cant remember whos post about a Halo movie that dosn't specifically follow the master Cheif and such just sparked a Revelation within me... A movie about Admiral Coles engagments with the covenant over Harvest, and where ever else he fought them. I personally think that would be awesome, along with one about the UNSC's struggles with pirates and other happenings before the covenat invasion. As for acting, CGI. Nothing else would look right. And for voices, the origional cast. And, as nearly everyone mentioned, Bungie has control over development. Or, as others mentioned, they could take a crack at it themselves, but then they wouldn't be able to work on new games, which would suck.

Well, I haven't read every page yet, but I sorta hope no one else thought of this.

The Only way a halo movie could ever be good is if it was computer animation or use the game engiens for graphics, also i'd only trust the game designers at bungie. The movie would take forever but who cares it would be the greatest movie of all time! I say hell yes With the movie idea, make it about the books and halo 2 go from fall of reach to Halo 2, make it a trilogy or sumthen even the fans dont care we want a movie!!!

There should definetely be a CG Halo movie made, though it could only be made by Bungie. That's a no brainer my friends. Just imagine over an hour of MC roughing up covenant and the rest of the alien hordes. The game itself is just an interactive sci-fi action movie (a really well made one) if you think about it. HALO WAS BORN to be made into a movie and CG is the only SURE way to go.

Some foolish group of Halo lovers(if we're lucky) could succumb to their live action Halo ambitions and take on that mostrous task. The budget alone would have to be close to the billion dollar mark just to get close to the kind of product bungie produces in the game world, well maybe not a billion but you get the idea.

I would like to see the NIGHTMARE armor in action and a midget running around in a grunt costume with a plasma tagged to his ass. There is just too much that could go wrong though, and I dread the idea of some pop culture whores who see the movie telling me about what makes the Halo franchise great when they haven't even payed the original until a week ago - cause by the time a movie comes out HALO 2 will be OLD news. That is just one of the millions of things that could wrong before, during, and after production. I would also like to see the crazy ass props they would be forced to make and a live action ATV/ GHOST chase that ends with a missiled greeting from a tank.

I think one median is being overlooked here though -- PUPPETS! Halo goes Sesame Street. Elmo and Big Bird can make cameos and be taken over by the flood and then get rocketed by MC, reluctantly of course. It would be very dramatic, and tramatizing for the kiddies.

HALO MOVIE:
CG made by Bungie - NO BRAINER

Live Action - If someone is foolish enough to take on a project that size with as many loyale and occassionally rabid fans as Halo.

Anime - No. The only animation allowed has to take place three dimensionally in a computer.

Puppets - Only if Elmo and Big Bird can make cameos in which their remains are left unreconizable due to numerous hits from Master Cheif's grenade launcher.

There is a very fine line between not listening, and not caring.

Bow Chicka Bow Wow!

halo would be a great movie idea. it would be a sieries of movies like star wars. ht efirst movie could be when the MC got recruited and showed how he had training and the spartan project and the eventual distruction of Reach. movie 2 would be Halo Combat Evolved. it should be nearly identical to the first game. movie 3 would be about Halo 2. i still think halo is a great movie idea.

If anyone has read the Halo books, we all know there should be four movies- one for each of the books..... The Fall of Reach, Halo, First Strike, and of course Halo2.... it would only make sense to do it the right way, and make the video game into the complete fantasy world that it is. It would be a damn shame if someone was to turn Halo into another "video game=bad movie" that we've seen so much of as of late... that don't actually follow the storyline of the video game, which ultimately ruins it for everyone.

Halo should be a movie, but if it's going to be done, it should be done right. Live action with no cheasy/cheap computer animation that seems to be taking over movies lately...

Halo can be a set of completely awesome sci-fi/fanasty/action films, but only if it's done carefully and with tender loving care from the director... or the Halo films can be a piece of crap haphazard attempt to fulfill the dream of a generation.

TO GET TO THE POINT...
Halo would make an awesome SET of movies, if you're going to make them, start with REACH--- the first book, or at least go back to the backstory of Halo and make it the world and the fantasy it was meant to be, or don't make it at all.

From a lover of film, I can only say I've seen too many incredibly amazing ideas gone bad due to the selfishness of the producers and the ignorance and immaturity of the directors. Thank you, MTV, for ruining movies.

i dont know about this halo movie i mean because they would have to shoot it as coop playage because he cant go around the whole damn movie talking to a chip in his F**king
head!!!And if they got some big director like Bruckhiemer or lucas then they would make one of themdie just to make it more "dramatic". F**k that. The chief would just respawn anyway. Why dont they just keep making games?

You saw what Jerry Bruckheimer did to "the true story" of King Arthur. Keep him in a cage during the duration of the Halo movie's production.

There are just too many things that could go wrong, and CGI just isn't quite up to the job yet, so for now, no. Maybe in a few years, after the buzz from Halo 2 has died down, and CGI has improved a few notches. Also, the combat issue would be skewered. After all, who wants to watch someone shoot down grunts and elites for fifteen minutes straight, with NO plot other than that. But cutting those battle scenes would take away from their majesty. There are just too many things to go wrong.

EDIT: the above posts do make sense. The movie could be better off spread over a series...

i think that they could probably make Halo into a good movie, it would be CG cuz havin another voice for MC isnt right. but the only thing would be that the movies would have to come out faster than the LOTR trilogy movies, we just cant wait that long!!!!!

Bungie did some awesome cinematics in Halo and supposedly some long awesome cinematics in Halo 2. So why not a CG film. But a real life film would be 10 X better. And as long as they get Vin Diesl for the MC. He's got the right voice and physical look (strong and deadly) the only thing is i dont think the MC is bald and Vin Diesl would look bad with a crew cut.
