I believe that if bungie was given complete control over the movie and it weas made in CG, it could turn out good. As said before, there should be no sassy sidekicks(cortana), no love story and no 1 liners after kills. Also the voices shuld be done by the same people that did them in the game. 1 movie per book, The Fall Of Reach should have more background on whats going on with earth and the human race. The Flood should be an outline of the game. Me and my brother had discussed this a long time ago and thought that it was a cool concept.
I disagree with the one movie per book idea. There wouldn't be enough story in the The Fall of Reach to get audiences interested. And many Halo players wouldn't be excited until the part that they've played. Now, of course this might seem to leave part of the story out, but the solution is simple. I say the beginning of the movie is a nice view of Threshold, but without Halo in view. Camera pans to the left to reveal The POA exiting slipstream. Cut to inside the ship w/ Keyes-Cortana talk about Cole Protocol, etc. Then one by one, Covenant ships enter the system. It goes through what happens in the game until MC lands on Halo. At this point he thinks to himself, "Looks like Reach." He then has sudden flashes of painful memories, and his previous experiences are revealed via flashback.
As for the cast, you can't just have the MC in his helmet the whole time. He would be too disembodies for the viewer to relate with, and wouldn't work well as a main character. There has to be a few scenes with his helmet off. Now, I obviously can't choose who to cast by appearance, since I've never seen the MC. So I would choose by voice, and then think of how they would look as a second criteria. And my choice would defanitely be Kiefer Sutherland. The voice is perfect, and he would look like a complete badass in MJOLNIR. Now as for Cortana, she has to be CG, since that's what she actually is. I suppose you could model her after an actress for familiarity reasons to non-Halo players, but it would be best to retain her appearance and voice from the game. Keyes, hmm, Shatner haha! Nah, even though his experience as a space captain would serve him well, it would turn the roll of Keyes into a joke, which it defanitely shouldn't be. Tommy Lee Jones comes to mind, but doesn't quite fit perfectly. Suggestions anyone? Sargeant Johnson would defanitely have to be Samuel L. Jackson. Yep, no question about it. Then you could just fill the Corps ranks with extras, and get the guy who drove R2-D2 to do the Grunts. As for Elites, talk to Shaq. He always seems to enjoy acting in his movies, but the audience doesn't. This way he gets to be acting to his heart's content, and the audience doesn't even have to know its him. Of course, you might just wanna get the guys that were the Preds in AVP, ya know, save a couple million bucks. Hunters, defanitely animatronics, no CG it looks like crap as evidenced by the Burly Brawl in Reloaded. I think everyone should have learned never to transfer a live action character to CG from that movie. The entire movie would have to be CG if you were going to have a character be. And I don't think a CG movie would attract the outside audience that Halo needs. As for the rest of the Covies, animatronics for close ups and CG at extreme distances or for a crowd effect. That's how I think they should do it to attract the greatest outside audience and still please the Halo Fanatics like us.
