Ok, obviously as someone stated before the BR will not appear in Reach, because major plot holes, and heh who wants that? *looks at Halo Wars*

Now, you said the BR is an overpowered weapon that "pros" worship (not your exact words), but look at it from our point of view (when I say our I mean the MLG community) we despise it when we get killed by a rushing AR player. We hate it that we get tbagged because we couldn't four-shot a rusher (mind you four-shots don't exist in regular settings). I'm not saying we hate the Assault Rifle, I for one love it. It brings back memories of playing Halo: CE with friends, it's just we prefer the battle rifle over the assault rifle because it's a lot more.. Helpful.

Scenario time: Standoff, CTF. They are pulling the flag, and they are heading to laser. You respawned your camo, but don't have an AR, you go over to laser to stop the flag attempt, you AR one guy and melee him, your one shot and you try to stop the flag, he's already at his rockets and you try to AR him from laser. It won't kill him, unless you have godly grenades.

We "pros" want to play the game for fun, but we also want to win. Halo 3 is a competitive game (no, not hardcore like MLG) any game with conflict in it, and a desire to beat the other team/players is competitive. Once again, no I am not saying I hate the AR, the BR is very helpful in other environments. It isn't MLG's fault for making the BR more popular, if anything they helped the game become more popular. I'm not saying everyone would not have bought Halo 2 if it weren't for MLG, they ujst helped Halo.

@Helveck

Just an Average Joe...

To be completely honest...

I would love if the Assault Rifle made a REAL comeback with its major complimenting weapon as a secondary weapon, the Pistol...

Probably won't happen, but it'd sure be nice. But then I'd kind of miss the BR....

  • 07.19.2009 8:35 AM PDT

Boys are bad!

Why would you even suggest this? Do you realize how much this would destroy in a Multi-million dollar industry which millions watch these competitions. I know you said the BR is seen as a "Pro" gun. Yes for some it is but for others like myself its just a gun that actually shows some skill. 1v1 me scrub and I'll show you that you probably can't aim and your horrible with the BR. Don't blame the BR for you not having a 40 yet.

The BR creates the skill gap along with the sniper.

If BR is removed, the skill gap is diminished. If anything will happen, it will be the BR would be more powerful, but always a starting weapon.

Removing the BR would kill Halo as we know it and turn it into something way worse than CoD or any other crappy game

I only have two points to make here:

1. If you dull down all of the mid to long range weapons then it makes the Sniper Rifle almost unstoppable. Picture yourself running through Valhallah with your dulled down midrange weapon or scoped AR at the ready when you spot a sniper sitting top center...Your only hope is to knock the sniper out of scope while you charge in. Unfortunately your weapon doesn't help very much so you get sniped and have to try again.

2. The Pistol and the BR made Halo: CE, H2, and H3 the games that we all know them to be. Could anyone imagine those games without those powerful weapons? I can. What I imagine is a world of no marksmanship and strategy where people blindly charge each other because of the ineffectiveness of their weapons. Who wants to play a game like that? If you answered yes to this question then you should quit thinking about this sort of thing (probably not meant for you) and leave all of the decision making to the people who have been making these wonderful games for almost 10 years now!! Thanks Bungie!!

That's it.

I'm The Boss

I agree, starting with something overpowered that not everyone can use creates an unfair advantage, but thats not reason to completely remove something from the game, OP is over reacting, the battle rifle would most likely be tweaked in Reach if it is there because of its influence on Halo 3.[/quote]

That is the whole point of having a BR/CE pistol. You can be good with it. You can't be better than someone with an AR. You just hold the trigger down and then melee.

If some people are good and some people suck that doesn't mean it is overpowered.

The BR is not overpowering. If they used the Halo 2 BR then yes it would be overpowering. And if you just fix the pistol, it would be no difference then the BR. It's not the weapon, it's what the weapon does. The BR put a spread on and has less auto aim then in Halo 2 so it's harder to use. And I can't remember the last time I lived from mid range when the opponent had the assault rifle. The Assault Rifle beats the BR from a certain range. Of course the Battle Rifle is gonna beat dual wielding and AR if you shoot them from a farther range.

Not only that but the BR takes the most skill next to the Sniper. So if they take it out, you know how many people will leave the game? Yea they won't do that kid. Maybe you're just pissed off or something because you can't win against someone that has a BR. Maybe you should do less spray and pray with the AR and actually think and pick your battles.

Make all the other weapons more effective and you have a fair game. Hell if most of the other weapons were actually more effective than a toaster you could remove the BR spread.

Stop bickering.

Oh and also they had a prototype Battle Rifle on Reach. So yes it's possible they'll have it.

It wouldn't make sense either because in the cover of Contact Harvest it clearly shows the Sergeant Johnson wielding the Battle Rifle in his tightly gripped, black masculine hands.

1) That was still in prototype stages at the time of Reach.
2) The Spartans didn't recieve the prototypes until after Reach fell.
3) That statement about Johnson's hands was kind of -blam!-, no offense.

Yes, it was a prototype in 2525. It's sort of startling to me though that you can think that a weapon can be a prototype in limited field testing one month then be the standard issue weapon the next.

The best answer for why things in Halo games were not in previous Halo games is: "It was there, you just didn't see it."

OT: The BR is a little OP but it fills the mid-range focus role along with the Carbine. I believe subtle tweaks to decrease it's close and melee range effectiveness would balance it perfectly. Decreasing its rate of fire and increasing the time of its melee should do the trick.

The BR Technically doesn't exist during the time on the planet Reach because Reach falls and is lost just shortly after the first Halo is destroyed and ridden of the flood. So my point is if Bungie is following what the books say then will not even produce or include a BR in the Halo Reach Game.

eakle i can totally see why you want the BR removed. u do not get many kills with it. but lets look at how many kills u get with other weapons. even less! hard to believe, ik. but before u attempt to get bungie to take away the BR for good, lets look at how people who dont get completely destroyed by it feel. If bungie took away the br and did not implement a new weapon to take its place(pistol plz) bungie would lose most of its competitive community. that is ALOT of people, maybe not as many as the casual community, but still a large chunk of money. so what i am asking is, before u bash the br out of existence, try to get good with it. judging by ur service record, u could easily take 1-2 hours out of ur usual playtime and get better. if u love this game so much, than u could take a small amount of ur time and learn the full potential of all the weapons, not just the ones u feel are easier to use. and if getting killed by a br in a short range battle is such a problem, learn to strafe. im shure that no one at level 37 has a consistent br anyway

Subject: Alter/Replace the BR in Halo: Reach Update-7/16/09 New weapons added

Ok you're wrong. Lemme explain why.

-You say the Halo: CE pistol isnt overpowered because it isn't a starting weapon. Neither is the BR.

-If Halo: CE had online, it would have had multiple playlists just like Halo 2 and 3, one of them bound to have a pistol for the starting weapon, which you would complain about as well.

-SWAT starts with a BR because the gametype is about quick headshots. That would SOO much fun with the AR...

-MLG starts with the BR because they are a tournament made for professionals. BR takes more skill to use than a AR. Period. In an AR fight, first shot will win, everytime. (If both have players have al least some kind of skill) With BR's, there is a *BIG* chance that the person with first shot will miss, and give the other player a chance to pull off a four shot.

-Squad Battle starts with the BR, I don't play this playlist so I don't know much about it. If you don't like the BR start, don't play it, as with any other 2 playlists.

-That is a total of 3 playlists out of 15 that have BR start.. That leaves you 12 other playlists to play, 13 if its Dbl Exp weekend, that don't start with a BR.

-You say one way to weaken the BR to reduce the clip to 24 rounds. That is 8 shots. That 2 kills *IF* you manage to fourshot twice in a row, and if your complaining about a BR, you can't. So for every other time, thats one kill per clip, basically retarded.

-The current clip only allows for 3 kills in one clip *IF* you can fourshot 3 times in a row, again, thats nearly impossible, especially on XBL. So that'll turns into 2 kills per clip.

-You also mention increasing the spread of the BR at a distance. The weapon is made for long range. The carbine and BR are the only long range weapons (minus the sniper, which there is typically only one per map). Without the BR, snipers would be free to decimate your entire team.

-Now, back to the Halo: CE pistol, it had enough rounds to kill 4 people if you didn't miss. The BR, overpowered and too large of a clip as you describe it, only has enough rounds in in its clip to kill 3 people, if you don't miss. I think someone's a little bias.

-You also state that anyone that trys to get close to a BR carrier is killed before they get a chance to fight back, thats a load of -blam! Bungie knows how to create a map, and almost every one of them has underground passage or side passage of some sort that allows you to move around without being destroyed by BR's.

-The game of Halo was built around the BR, a midclose to midfar ranged weapon that is adaptable to many different situations.

Anybody who supports this thread is automatically terrible at this game. The BR is one of the only weapons that require some skill and precision use, along with the carbine and both snipers. Kids hate the BR because they get wrecked by it while they are running in the middle of the map with assault rifles wacking each other. Sure the BR is powerful at medium/long range but thats what its made for, you gotta have some balance in this game. You can't decrease the power of a medium range weapon because then it lets idiots and bad kids get away with not being able to control the power weapons.

I support this thread, and my K/D is above 1.0. That pretty much tells you I don't need the BR so damn badly, but it's still my top kills because of how frequent it is and of how I'm almost forced to use it to combat other players. If it were toned down, it would still be a great mid-range weapon.

Besides, if the BR is a prototype in reach, isn't that just telling us it may be changed anyway?

It amazes me that people like you somehow obtain "Honorable" status when all you can do is insult a players skill. If you even began to read my OP, you would know that this is not about skill and that i dont blame the BR for anything. I dont care that my highest skill is a 35. I have better things to do than play a game all day and try to get a 40.

Next time, read and understand the OP before replying.

By looking at the playlist population, "pros" and Hardcore players are the smalles percentage of the community. Sociall Slayer at most times contains nearly half of the online players. Most people just play to play. Even if all teh MLG community dropped out of Halo, the game would only be down a few thousand players.

You also have to see it form our (the people who just play) point of view. The BR is used non-stop. There are multiple playlists with only BR starts, and every other has BR starts in it. Anyone who prefers another weapon rarely gets to use it, on top of all the issues i listed with the BR in my OP.

Blackness Confirmed. You've got soul.

The Ultimate Opinion.

Posted by: WhatThaSmurf
If Bungie were to stick with their own fiction (which I'm sure they will), this will not even be an issue. The BR did not exist in Halo: CE, therefore how could it possibly exist in a prequel? It wouldn't make any sense at all. "Oh, yeah, it is in the past, but it has weapons from the future..."

No, Bungie is much smarter than that.

And I'm sure someone will be like: "Well, in First Strike the Spartans that survived the Battle of Reach got BRs." And that is the point. The Spartans that made it through the Battle of Reach, the ones that the Master Chief helped rescue, didn't get the BR prototypes until after the story that Halo: Reach will tell, after the Pillar of Autumn arrived at the first Halo, after Reach had already been glassed and the battle lost.

So, for two reasons (other than the very accurate reasons given by the OP) the BR should not be in Reach.
1) It wasn't in Halo: CE.
2) It wasn't in use by the UNSC until after Reach according to the fiction.

If the BR is included in Reach, I will be extremely disappointed.

Actually the books follow that kind of path with there weapanry...lol
