no infinite ammo or nades. its built off of the campaign engine. its not a custom game. it is sort of like hoard on gears of war 2. you have waves of enemies that are trying to kill you and all you can choose is the map. firefight runs off of waves, rounds, and sets. there are 5 waves in a round, 3 rounds in a set, and unlimited sets. the game only ends when you all run out of lives. you can choose the map, (and possibly any silver skulls if they have any such as grunt birthday party) but campaign scoring is and the skull list on the left are always on. the skulls from the list go on/off randomly as you progress through rounds. you all share from the same number of lives, so you are only as strong as your weakest link. at the end of each set, you get more lives, and guns/ammo respawn in the starting point armory. the enemies you face are fairly random except for the fact that every round you will face at least one chieftain(mostly with gravhammers, but some with fuel rods and possibly plasma cannons) and sometimes a pair of hunters too. the next wave comes regardless of if you killed all enemies in the previous waves, so you cant just leave one enemy alive while you all look for weapons :( almost all of the halo 3 matchmaking medals are incorporated in firefight and campaign. that includes multi-kills up to invincible, and quick kills up to killionare.these medals give you an insane points multiplier.
ohh and no matchmaking for it. so it is sort of like a custom game i guess
