Grenades are cheap in Halo 3. They have a near instant detonation making them guaranteed to damage someone. Grenades need longer fuses and a larger blast radius. Frags would still only take out shields and plasmas would kill if you stand on them. This would make well placed more rewarding but it doesn't guarantee damage. This would make grenading and then headshoting more risky and fair. Sticking people would also have more risk. If your grenade misses you spent an entire second on nothing.

Melee has the same problem but for a different reason. The lunge and lock on make it a guaranteed hit. The melee should have nearly no lunge and absolutely no lock on. This would make shooting with an automatic weapon and then using melee more risky and fair. If your melee misses you can get finished off with a melee or a few bullets.

Both of these changes would add more strategy and risk to the game. Halo 3 is very repetitive when it comes to using the AR or the BR.

Your point on grenades is completely mute because it is determined completely by the skill of the person throwing the grenade and the person dodging the grenade.

And melee has change so much over time I dont even understand it anymore

It is very easy to place a grenade at someones feet. Then the thing goes of right away. Its just too easy. In Halo CE you had to lead your grenade by throwing it where the guy was headed.

If you're joking, lol.

and if you're not, I understand. But he is talking about changing the grenades and melee from Halo 3, so that they are better in Reach

  • 07.16.2009 12:07 AM PDT

I agree i think it sould be easier to die so you and your team realy need to stradgise (spelling may be wrong).

  • 07.16.2009 12:08 AM PDT

Maybe they could add the addition of a choice to through back the grenade, but you would have to get it and throw it quickly or it will explode in your face.

I actually like the current grenade system. Easy to dodge nades you can't spam due to a small blast radius, but they aren't useless like the pre-patch Halo 2 grenades or spam worthy as the Halo 2 post patch grenades.

Glad that Halo 3 garbage is dead, thanks to Reach.
Unfreakenbelievable!!

Grenades have always been a "cheap" weapon, in any FPS. I think its consistency needs to be improved, as does most things in H3. But, I have never really had a problem with Frags in Man to Man combat. It is the Vehicle to Man combat that I have a problem with them. They need better physics so Frags by itself can flip a Vehicle. That is really the main reason why Vehicles were so much better in Halo:CE.

As for the Melee, it needs to have much much less magnetism. If the reticule is off the target, then it should perform no lunge whatsoever. The lunge distance could be decreased as well. I have also always thought that the Melee should only kill if the shields are completely out, and not 6 bullets and kill like it is now.

I agree with Jiggly luv. It is unrealistic, even for a spartan to complettly drain shields with one meele attack. I'm pretty sure on Halo's 1 and 2 the meele atacks were weaker

I say keep the grenades from Halo 2/3 (love using them to nade-headshot someone, I have great placement), but the Halo 1 melee needs to return. It takes absolutely no skill in Halo 3 (unless one considers pressing the "B" button skill).

lol isnt that the point of a grenade?

How to spell "space"?

S-P-ACE! SPACE!

You have created the perfect grenade.

Perfect melee? NO LUNGE! LESS DAMAGE! Really, Bungie needs to do that.

You don't kick a man when they're down, so don't teabag me when I'm dead!

It's not as bad as in Halo 2...

$.50 in store credit.

The only thing that i think needs to be fixed is how whenever two people melee, either both or neither dies.

God forbid that someone in real life wouldn't try and direct their swing towards the person rather than just flailing their weapon directly in front of them. hell they might even move forward somewhat faster so that the force of their hit is greater. it might just be me

True...well they could at least make the lunge a smaller distance.

  • 07.16.2009 10:05 AM PDT

grenades explode 2 seconds after they hit the ground or a wall, so the detonation time is different for every grenade, you that argument is flawed. Your melee argumet is also flawed becasue the lunge only works from short distances, and you can miss a melee if the other person moves backwards.

  • 07.16.2009 10:08 AM PDT

There's always an insult for me:
You lose: You're a bk, bad, etc.
You win: You're a tryhard, cheater.

The melee could be toned down a bit.
Have assassinations drain full shields & melees only drain half.

They could bring back both grenades. Tap the L trigger to throw a grenade with the power/damage of the H2/3 grenades, or "cook" the grenade by holding the trigger. It will beep, then you throw it automatically. The cooked grenade will look different (frag will spout off smoke, plasma is red) so that you know what type of nade it is. The cooked grenades will act like they did in Halo 1.

ROBOHOG IS VERY BRILLIANT AND STUFF.

What, you mean make the grenades and melee of Halo 3 work like the grenades and melee of Halo CE (Which both worked like you just asked)?

If so, then I agree. Halo CE placed more emphasis on using your primary weapon than the grenades or the melee system. The frags took a while to detonate, the plasmas took even longer, and the melee had no lock on or lunge, and was exactly what it was supposed to be - a last resort.

Though I reckon that if this were copied for Halo Reach, then the damage of the melee should remain the same as in Halo 3, seeing as without a lock on or lunge it's going to be difficult enough to kill a guy without taking four or five good whacks with the rifle butt.
