What civilization did they take over that allowed them to move to the Intergalactic Stage? I mean, that's obviously how they came here right? Or did they birth from our Universe? Overall, can this game answer where they came from? I know it's a prequel but Halo Wars was able to somewhat answer some questions but we still don't know how they came to be.

if the game follows the book, then you won't even hear the word "flood".

Show Faith/Defy Fate

I've heard something about a race called the predecesors which created the flood for memory storage purposes. They were supposed to be a type of living AI. there is an entire thread/theory for this. Try to look it up for more info.

No, It's not following the book, I don't think. 259 is supposed to be the rumored central character.

That is purely speculation, though it does sound good.

Good point also. Just, I'm not 100% sure if HW was considered legit cannon for Halo or not. Wouldn't the flood be a registered enemy in the UNSC database after that whole battle in the shield world? Wouldn't Halsey have known where she was when she jumped through that Slipspace portal of sorts? The shield world would be registered by Anders. Just so many holes.

They were different shield worlds, and if you watched the cutscenes you would know that the Spirit of Fire wasn't able to return to Human colonized space for a very long time, possibly even after the war.

Unless they came from a parallel dimension, they would have had to have evolved within our universe. Whether they originated in our galaxy is unknown. I quite like the idea that they were an experiment gone horribly horribly wrong, but we dont know anything concrete about their origins, and its unlikely that we will find out anything else in Reach.

HW is canon. The only UNSC which encountered the Flood were Spirit of Fire personnel, and they were lost in space in 2531. This means that they either weren't found by the time Reach fell, or they were found, but the information was all classified.

You say tomato; I say potato.

The following are simply hopes of a fan:

I don't think the Flood will make an appearance in this game or any to come after Reach. I think Bungie will still hold to the science fiction angle rather than a combat simulator, so we should expect to meet a new villain or villains. That does not necessarily mean new species or anything like that, but maybe some Forerunner influence.

Remember in Halo CE how the villain was the Halo itself, a weapon left unchecked. Then, in Halo 2 and 3, Bungie put thinking characters(Truth, Gravemind) in the place of cold, mechanical weapons.

I am sure we will be fighting some covenant to try to save Reach initially, but in the long run of the game (and perhaps even a saga) I am willing to bet that there will be a new object that will develop into the introduction of a great villain or threat. Let's take those crystals in The First Strike for example. Could these crystals be the key to building more Halo installations or something similar? Attempting to destroy a technology before the villain could use it to destroy us could be a repeated theme.

They're called the Precursors and it is only a theory.
