Is this part of Matchmaking, like playing games on campaign maps, or are you talking about part of the actual campaign being PvP? Because if you are, do you know how many silver subscribers will be pissed when they find that out?

Break the rules,
Stand apart,
Ignore your head,
And follow your heart

not to replace campaign, but an extra mode, Battle mode or somthing like that

that would be sick. like a mix of territories, assault, CTF in one big mission, elites and spartans.
Everyone could have their own "AI" telling them to take over this spot, or plant the bomb, and other stuff. that would be awesome

Life is interesting...

A first person RTS shooter...

That sounds great.

Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net

It already appears that you will be playing with team of Spartans. If you are a silver, AI would just fill those other Spartans that aren't playing. Same with the competition elites, they would be filled with AI. It isn't that hard of a concept to grasp, but it is different than anything before.

So, I enter a mission. A Huge battle is going on. Banshees, Spirits, Scarabs, Ghosts, etc etc. Elites, Grunts, Jackals, Hunters: The whole deal and suddenly, I walk out of the structure. The light fills the screen. As it slowly fades away, dozens to hundreds of other Marines run out, with Warthogs jumping down from the short cliff above. Pelicans and Hornets fly above. From behind a convoy of Scorpions move up. Your FOF tags show 3 other dudes: Your team mates. A voice fills your speaker. 'Covenant own this entire city Marines. We're gonna take it back'. And the mission objective flashes on bottom:

"Take this city back. No matter what the cost"

In between, you get occasional radio chatter that provide mini-objectives that if completed may award you with some special perk. Radio goes crazy with chatter like

"Take down the Covenant AA Gun so that we can bring in the Air Support!"
"The bar in the center of the city: Covenant's taken hostages. We have to get them"
"Scarabs are chewing up our heavies. Concentrate all fire on them"
"Elite Rangers are attacking Echo 590! We need those supplies from that bird. Protect it at all cost!"

Meanwhile, 4 Covenant Drop Pods are streaking down the sky. The view shifts to first person. A familiar Elite-ish voice speaks. "Brothers, the humans are attempting to hinder our progress to the sacred artifact. We either eliminate them from this city or die protecting the Artifact. Again, FOF tags light up: 3 other Elite Mates. You all land and the pods burst open, you life your Plasma Rifle and charge.

Something like that? Dude... -blam!- yes.

Yes, that would be an excellent opening to a campaign level.

But let's get one thing totally straight; this is the campaign not a TDM or something, this battle means something to the campaign and moving through the objectives in every mission is an integral part of the story for both sides.

I'm glad there are a few people that can catch the vision.

PvP Campaign...AI you can give orders to...hey, wait a minute. All you guys are doing is talking about Perfect Dark in a larger scale and Halo. Which could be a good thing if done right, but somehow I doubt you'll be seeing 4vs4 players with 100's of Ai if they did attempt it. Lmao.

I like how everyone tries to compare this time of playing to one specific game. Yes one aspect of it may be similar, such as possibly giving orders to AI, but that is only one cog in this new system. There is no problem with taking ideas from other games, some other games may just do a few things better (I know GASP, right?)

The key is to take the best ideas from several games and then add some fresh ones of your own.

Don't try and get snarky with me, I'm agreeing with you. And don't try and put words in my mouth, I know full well there is no problem with taking ideas from other games, indeed, pretty much every game developer should do so, 80% of these next-gen games suck.

I merely mentioned the only game to my knowledge to have some of these functions (albeit far more limited) as a reference point. It was not to be taken as, "oh em gee, one game like 9 years ago had somethign similar, death to copy-catz!!".

Besides, PD counter-coop functions quite differenty, its 1v1 on the normal SP campaign, with 1 player doing the campaign as normal and the other assuming control of the AI's normally set on the map, and as they are killed by the other player they keep respawning in the AIs place, until all the AI are dead or the good player achieves the objectives for that level.

Either way, counter-coop is a good thing. Heres hoping Bungie at least considers it.

Sorry, it sounded like you were classifying my entire idea into one lame PD game mode.

Either way counter-coop FTW!

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Sounds like scenario MP (don't know if anyone has said it already). We do similar things with paintball when we have a big enough crew present. I would love something like this, but as is with huge games in general, the lag would be unreal. Something like this would simply require too much bandwidth. Then again 4 player co-op works fairly smoothly, so if the teams of actual players were fairly small it may just work.

Would be interesting to see how something like this would perform in matchmaking though, since most people only like to go with whats easy and play slayer.

I want a story-driven, single-player, mission-based (levels) campaign, not a bot match. I don't care if bots are in the game for people such as myself who don't have XBOX Live but I don't want the campaign to just be a multiplayer mode either.

Like Starwars battlefront 2. Lots of AI along With a team of players. Maybe this mode could be class based. IDK

Epic idea. Just wanted to say example one sounds like star wars battle front, which is not a bad thing. As I said before, epic idea!

Kinda like battlefront...except these are the campaign missions, not just regular TDM or Team games.

Como?

I'm not exactly sure what thread you are talking about...but I came up with this idea nearly two weeks before I posted this thread in a previous thread.

And I have never seen anyone talk about anything remotely close to it before that.

But I will kindly forgive you for your accusations.

If i would have to chose between playing a singleplayer/co-op campaign and PvP campaign then i would chose singleplayer/co-op because the other idea just seems like it wouldn't work too well and i want Bungie to make a good singleplayer/co-op campaign instead of making a -blam!- PvP campaign.

The missions would flow and move just as a normal campaign mission did in any of the other Halos. The main difference would be that there is a team of elites (AI or human) that are also doing a mission simultaneously.

All this means is that every mission would have a few more intense firefights and smarter battles. It just brings a new demension into campaign mode...emphasis on CAMPAIGN.
