I am of an open mind and I am willing to hear criticism. Also: That's stupid and you're stupid.

This would rock! I would love to be on the Elite squad taking orders from The Arbiter before he was The Arbiter.

I just don't see Bungie putting an idea this big in, I mean heck, they would have to pay you for the idea(to avoid issues) first, and I haven't heard of a company that would do that.

Hi, I am the White Mamba Overlord of our group the ODSM.
We are not a clan, and we don't play the game for competition. Instead we play for fun, and to hang out with friends. If you are interested in joining go to our group homepage and sign up. Membership is open.
We are mostly a Halo 3: ODST group for help with achievements and stuff, but we also will play a lot of Halo 3 matchmaking.

So baslically like Left 4 Dead's versus mode?

Edit: That would be cool by the way. =)

If i die i forgive you, if i live...we will see.

It's a great idea, but i dont see it working...It would be fun to have it as like an online gamemode similar to that of Starwars battlefront where there are players and AI going at it against eachother with objectives and stuff, but for the campaign, im not entirely sure it would work. They would probably have to make the map alot bigger requiring more players to even make it worth the PvP experience. Dont get me wrong i think its a great idea, but...ya i just dont see it working.

  • 07.21.2009 3:08 PM PDT

The main problem I see here is that it can affect the actual storyline of the game... I mean you can say spartans lose reach is glassed who cares, but I like games with an actual storyline. One thing I do want in Reach is multiple ways to finish the level and different enemys at different parts of the mission.

  • 07.21.2009 3:14 PM PDT

Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net

This is exactly my point! And don't call me genius, I'm blushing.

But really, some of the levels would probably be so fun that the replay factor and fun factor would draw you back time and time again.

Too the other threads above me^^^

I would not accept payment from Bungie, just long as they put my name on the game cover:)

And to the guys that are comparing this to Battlefront or Perfect Dark those are very, very watered down PvP missions that are barely, remotely what I am talking about.

I hope Bungie really has an opportunity to consider this.

the ultimate starting sequence for a campain mission like this.
spartan version:
as the pelican bay doors open, light floods in, revieling a shattered city, imediatly 3 friend or foe tags light up from other pelicans. you get up and get off the pelican. raising you assult rifle, you proccede to the makeshift UNSC camp outside of the city to get your orders and extra firepower. from there you see the words "retake city center at all costs" blazes on to the screen. you get into the worthog, noting the heavy com traffic. you ride with your squad in two 'hogs, two in each. you exit the part of the city controled by the UNSC, olny to hear "AMBUSH" screemed over teamcom. you hear the whine and sizle of plasma discharges and fills the air. an explosion occures underneath the 'hog, flipping it. you get out of the 'hog, everything seams slow and loud, but slowly fades to its normal state. you have just experienced shellshock. you take cover behind the reackage of the 'hog and return fire.
elite version:
there is darkness and the sence of falling. you hear "brothers the time has come, a relic has been located underneath this human city. excavation crews are already there but cannot start thier work unless the infadel presence is eliminated from the area. the prophets will be done." and the words eliminate the humans appear on the screen. then suddenly you come to a stop, the pod bursts open and you step out. 3 tags appear on screen, your team. you raise your plasma rifle and move to complete your holy work.

That sounds pretty good to me. No doubt, there are endless possibilities for scernarios in this type of campaign.

In the end, it really just brings a factor of replayability that cannot be found in 99% of campaign modes in games. Playing against and along side someone else is what brings endless different encounters. AI canonly offer so much. However, campaign mode and the actual Halo story is one of the most facinating parts of the Halo experience.

This idea merges them together and gives players true challenges every level forever and creates the Halo experience and campaign that fans have learned to love.

Sorry but PvP Campaign would be a terrible idea.

  • 07.22.2009 3:03 PM PDT

It's a good idea. However, I don't think it should replace the normal campaign. In fact, I wouldn't really call it a campaign because they'd have to be separate scenario's, unrelated to each other (if they were related to each other, they'd have to change based on who won the last one, but because of that the number of scenarios would balloon into infinity, which isn't really possible to program). It would work as a separate multiplayer option, and I would love to play it, but I feel the actual campaign should be left intact as well.

This is an idea that I came up with a few weeks ago that I have not heard of anyone else suggesting.

PvP campaign missions...

The idea is that every campaign mission is a complete PvP matchup. One team is a group of Elites and the other is a group of spartans. Each team would have a set of objectives for the mission just like a normal campaign mission, however, they would be working against each other.

Obviously some of the details would need to be worked out, but at least it would be something different than a totally linear campaign.

Mission examples:

1. Some missions would simply be a very large battle. 100's of AI on both sides, scarabs, tanks etc. And the mission objective would simply be to win the battle. Mini objective would be to get to rally point or break enemy lines to get reinforcements or MAC blasts etc.

2. Other mission may be like a team of elites trying to plant a bomb in a human base. They would be fighting human resistance and calling in support; while a team of spartans chases them down to try and stop them from planting the bomb while they fight through squads that the elites are calling in.

3. Others would simply be trying to complete objectives that are completely unrelated, but that have the teams run into each other at certain choke points. One team will conquer and will be set back, however, the resistance for both teams would increase as the level went on to allow for the other team to always have a chance to catch back up.

Anyways, I know it is kinda out there, but at least it is something different from the same old linear campaign. In the end, of course Reach will be destroyed, but I think the missions are completely up to interpretation.

What do you think? Ideas or suggestions?

I would love to see the faces of all the noobs struggeling to get even a few meters from thier base without getting raped by grunts(humans) or getting raped by freindly grunts(covenant).lol(it is on easy)
excuse my little note above, what if the amount and skill of the A.I. increased with difficulty and skulls(if any!), on easy there would be olny, for example, a hundred A.I. per team, and they where the lowest ranks, your enemies cower before you. On Normal, there would be like 400 A.I. per team and average ranks, your skills will be tested. On Heroic, there would be like 700 A.I. and high ranks, your skills will be strained. On Legendary, there would be more A.I. than even God could imagine, all are specops units which have unprecidented accuracy and armrament, you will not survive. On Mythic(Legendary+all skulls), There are BILLIONS of A.I. in the map at all times, they laugh as you die endlessly at thier hands, making you think that your mission and survival is futile, this is hell on Reach, may salvation come.
sorry about the wall of text, i kinda got carried away.

That is not exactly how it would work. The story would still move forward no matter which side was victorious in a specific campaign level. No one mission can overturn the fact that reach will be destroyed. The only thing that will change is the cutscene that goes in between the levels. Either a base gets destroyed or it is saved, or the covenant win a particular battle or they don't. Either way, you still need to move on to the next objective or part of the story.

The levels would be similar to the individual campaign levels of past halo's where you are disarming a bomb, or disabling an AA gun, fighting a giant battle, seeking out information, or racing against the clock somewhere, etc. They all help to move the story, but hardly any of the missions are really a keystone to the entire story.

Am i the only person who realizes that Reach doesnt get entirly destroyed, only a strip near the equator remaind untuch so the covenant can attemp to ecavate for an artifact, an important one.
(beware for a great wall)
the reason the covenant came to Reach is becaused they followed a tracker that led them to Reach, and they found coordinants on an artifact found on sigma octavius VII, the same artifact that cortana used to find halo and draw the concusion that the covenant where heading to Earth, thus initiating operation first strike, this operation would involve a team of spartans infiltrating and destroying a covenant command and control space station, with the intent of stalling the covenant advance on Earth. this operation was a succsess at the cost of three lives, one spartan, a lutenant, and vice admiral stanforth, and a covenant flagship, the asendant justice. however four spartans, sargent johnson, cortana, and the covenant flagships slipspace drive survived and where able to make it to earth.
(the wall has just begun)
the olny reason the covenant didnt destroy earth when they attacked the first time was due greatly to operation first strike, which has its roots back during the battle of reach.
(wall end near)
however i support this idea 200%, i would be dissapointed if Bungie did't include this. also i have a new idea for a senario
(you fell down steps and lost sight of the end)
Humans:
Coming down in a modified warthog, the warthog has a closed seating area and reinforced cassis and windshield for orbital drops, you are briefed on your mission. "You are eliminate a covenant AA batery along this ridge, you'll be coming down hot, keys out." When the transmission ends, you find 3 Friend or Foe tags, your teammates, in two 'hogs, one in yours, and two in another, and the words "eliminate covenant AA guns" pulses onto the screen. The 'hog starts to shudder as the friction generated by 8 tons of 'hog and spartan entering atmosphere and causes the air to start to flame, heating the air drastically inside the 'hog. Then, as sudenly as it began, it ends. Then the 'hog impacts the ground and the screen turns black. Then it starts to clear. You suddenly find yourself in enemy territory with olny a few marines and your team. One of the marines says "Huh, a spartan, things must have goon to s**t here, well, assuming your after those AA guns, follow me." Then he leaves and you gain control of your character. You follow him into a tunnel that is littered with bodies, human and covenant alike, however you are thankfull to see some marines that are still alive and holding off covenant. Then the marine instructs you to help them hold off the covenant assult and destroy the entrances to the tunnel. The words "hold off covenant assult" appeares and you turn to face the covenant threat. Once you hold off the covenant assult the words "destroy entraces to tunnel" appear on screen. Then a marine asks you to follow him and protect him as he places the charges. You do so and are rewarded acsess to your goal, the AA guns. Climbing out of a hatch you are put 100 meters away from the nearest AA guns, you move forward and a team of marines follows you and your squad to assist in destroying the guns and to add extra fire power in the event of an inevetable firefight. Then when you destroy the last of the guns, you are awarded a scarab. The words " take down enemy scarab" pulses onto the screen. You comply and succsefully destroyed the scarab. Then you make way to the evac point. The mission is over and you are on your way to a large military base that is up in flames.
(the wall seems larger than before)
Covenant:
The Shadow you are in is making its way to a human military base. Over the com your field master states "Brothers, one last human stronghold stands in our way of getting to the luminous key. We shall destroy the filth inflicted by it and accuire the luminous key. May the gods guide us." the words "destroy human base" pulses onto the screen and 3 identification tags light up. Then the shadow stops and opens it's hatches. You step out and raise your beam rifle and move toward the base. You olny stop to snipe some guards. As you near the base, you start to lose sight of your weapon and arms, your active camoflauge has activated. You are told to wait for a gate to open as guards come out to investigate an "accedent" with some guards, the same ones you sniped. As they come out, you go in. You hunt through the halls of the base with your plasma rifle. Then you reach the ammunition storage buildings. A grin comes to your face as you trow a plasma grenade into it. Just as you throw the grenade, you instinctivly run away. the grenade expoldes and the ammo goes up in flames. Then a second building expoldes just after the ammo, the fuel dump must have gone up too. You then hunt down the rest of the personnel at the base, you head to aquire the luminous key. The words "locate and take the luminous key" pulses onto the screen as a nav point puts you close to it. When you find it a phantom comes and picks you up. The piolet informs you that the Anti-Aircraft guns have been destroyed, and deamons where responsable.
(the wall ends)

I guess I will add my own scenario to my post:

Humans:

A team of spartans is assigned to lead a large convoy across a ravished city. The data in the main transport is vital to the UNSC. The spartan convoy consists of roughly 50 marines and 5 spartans manning warthogs, hornets, and woverines.

Screaming across the desolated ruins of the city, the human convoy runs into barracades and hostile outposts as it struggles to reach its destination.

Covenant:

The elite team of Elites receives intel that a convoy carrying sensitive data has just left a small UNSC outpost and is heading to a base located on the other side of their recently conquered city. They must capture the convoy's precious cargo at any cost.

The elites scramble to ghosts and spectres and head out in pursuit. The shortest route to reach convoy is through a hot zone in the downtown streets of the human city. Resistance will be heavy.

Scenario and objectives:

If the humans make it through their blockades and battles with their cargo intact AND if the Elites manage to ge through the lines of UNSC marines skirmishing in the downtown streets they will meet in the large town courtyard.

A large batlle will commence...the Elites calling in a nearby scarab for reinforcements and the spartans dropping in ODST's to make a line.

At this point, ID tags will be removed, and for the players picking the ODST's from the spartans and the elite Elites from the normal elites will be difficult. Each player will be given a set number of lives (perhaps just 1 or maybe 3-5) and the battle will insue.

The winner will be determined either by total domination or by the elites stealing the vital data from the nearby heavily guarded convoy. Although the winner of the battle will lead to a different cutscene, it is only a small part of the war that rages. And in the end Reach will fall.

Points will be awarded and medals given for a myriad of accomplishments.

A couple of additional ideas that I came up with that I think would make the campaign more enjoyable:

1. Limited lives - I'm not sure how to fit this in exactly, but either throughout each level or perhaps only at times of a PvP battle there would be a shift where players would have a set number of lives to work with. This would allow for a definitive victory.

2. No player tags - this would make for more spontaneous battles. Although there would be a difference between spartans and surrounding ODST's and Elites and the super Elites it would make blending in easier.

Just a couple of thoughts that would make the campaign more interesting IMO.
