...atleast in my oppinion, is to add a way to block a melee attack. This would probably have to be either a direction on the D-pad or a button combo. When looking at your opponent, if you blocked at the exact time that they meleed they would do no damage and be knocked back a bit (like with a sword clash). Swords and gravity hammers would be uneffected by the block, and would kill you as usual.

This would quite effectively eliminate double beatdown situations, and add to the amount of skill in close ranged combat in Halo: Reach. This would also be more realistic, if somebody ran at you and took a swing at you, you probably wouldn't just hit them in the face as well (unless you happen to play hockey), you'd block them. Spartans have extensive training in hand to hand combat so you'd think that they would know how to block attacks.

Melee attacks could still work to great effect if your opponents timing was off or you got the jump on them, but if you made it obvious that you were running in for a beatdown then you would most likely be blocked and shot.

What are people's oppinions on this? Yay or nay?

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

I agree that this is a great idea. Quite possible.

I Only Look Special

I personally hate the current sword system. If the whole melee system turned into the current sword system...I just don't see it working out like you plan sorry. I think both people dying is much more fair than two people meleeing eachother for 30 seconds only to give another player a double kill.

Nah. I hate the Sword Clash because of how inconsistent/unfair it is (it's all about connection speed) so I wouldn't like that to ruin melees as well. I say just make melees take skill again like they did in Halo 1, and we won't have to worry about all of the BS from Halo 3.

that would be cool to have a real melee fight instead of getting hit to death.

i think we should see more of the martial arts taught to spartans. possibly a button to go hands only?

Instead of pressing a D-pad button maybe they should just block a melee with a melee? Makes a tad bit more of sense don't you think? That way it eliminates the problem of two people punching each other and dying at the same time but keeps melees still somewhat effective.

No. It would be like sword clashes, but it would be happening near-constantly. It would bog down the game and make it tedious.

NO YOUR STUPID there shouldnt be melee at all lets see how you could play then it would be epic because you would play completelyh differently

$.50 in store credit.

No. Altering the melee in unneeded ways is what got us the system we have now where people constantly trade. I prefer the Halo CE melee system to all of them.

Aslo, it would become very annoying.

Quick time events in online multiplayer = bad idea

go to 1:31-2:50 and this is (considering spartans are genetically enhanced) what id like to see in terms of action, because right now, with our genetically enhanced bodies, we can move as fast as a normal person! w00t!

Happiness is a warm gun

O.K. Heres an idea,
Instead of blocking a melee,

How about being able to counter a melee.

One person melees, the other counters then the person who counters wins
both people melee, it would be the same as now (whoever has lower shield loses until some point where both people die)
both people counter, then both are standing ready to fight.

or how about even adding a secondary melee to create a rock paper scissors element.
