Split its two functions (long-range supression, and midrange accuracy) between two weapons; variants of weapons which have appeared in most of the Halo games... The Assault Rifle, and the Pistol For a scale of distance in Halo; Blood Gulch/Coagulation was about 500 meters long from canyon wall-to-canyon wall (you can measure distance with the sniper scope in Halo 1 and Halo 3).
MA5K Assault Rifle: The MA5K Assault Rifle would replace the MA5B from Halo, and the MA5C from Halo 3. It is a weapon depicted in the novels, and also in Halo: Custom Edition. It would be a weapon much more about accuracy compared to the AR in Halo 1/3, and it would also be a more versatile weapon, finally working at midrange (in the right hands, of course). This is the version in Halo: Custom Edition.

M6D Pistol: The M6D Pistol is a scaled up version of the standard sidearms, modified especially to be used by Spartans (so was the M6C/SOCOM in Halo 3: ODST). So that the Pistol isn't reduced to some useless weapon (and so that a new Rifle doesn't need to be made up), it should be non-dual weidlable, and have a power boost. It would be an effective weapon in the rights hands, and it would be versatile like the AR. It would be comparable to the Pistol in Halo 3: ODST and Halo 1.
