Yo. Now, there's been a good bit of hoo-haa about removing or replacing weapons, most of which (If not all) has been about either the Battle Rifle or the Assault Rifle, to find a more fitting starting weapon. Or something. Now, I've done some thinking on the subject myself, and think I might have found a decent solution to the apparent problem. I reckon that to find the most ideal starting weapon in Halo multiplayer, we don't need to remove anything or replace anything or come up with something completely new or eat the Bungie staffs' cats or whatnot. We just revise the Assault Rifle, along with a couple of the other weapons in the game, to work with one another and fill up the different range categories we find. Like this...

Battle Rifle
Magazine size - 30 rounds (Debatable. Could be lower, but this seems more realistic)
Fire mode - semi-automatic
Rate of fire - slightly faster than Halo 1 pistol
Range - mid to semi-long range
Headshots - yes

Assault Rifle
Magazine size - 33 rounds
Fire mode - three round burst
Rate of fire - slightly faster than BR
Range - mid range (Less effective at close range than current version and again less effective at long range due to bullet spread, bullet speed and lack of scope)
Headshots - no. Body shots only (This makes all the difference between this version of the AR and the current BR)

SMG
Magazine size - 60 rounds
Fire mode - fully automatic
Rate of fire - same as Halo 1 AR
Range - close range
Headshots - no


So you see, the weapons would be made to work with each other. The specialised weapons, in this case the Battle Rifle and the SMG, would be highly effective in their range categories but a lot less effective outside of them. But unlike every other weapon in the game, the Assault Rifle would not be specialised in anything, but should be capable of beating longer range weapons at close range, and close range weapons at long range, without being too powerful to be as destructively useful as the Halo 3 version (Which overshadows a lot of other weapons in the game). Here's a run down of why:

The Assault Rifle would ideally be suited for mid range combat, with the burst fire mode making it innacurate at longer ranges and limited at close range compared to purpose built close range weapons (Though it shouldn't be impossible to kill with at close range, just more difficult than the current version). The Battle Rifle would be more dominant at longer ranges with its scope and tighter bullet spread, but would ideally be even more limited at close range than the Assault Rifle. The SMG would complete the triangle, being dominant at close range but very limited at anything longer than semi-mid range. The power of all weapons would be decided by Bungie.

So basically, BR = dominant mid range weapon, SMG = dominant close range weapon, and Assault Rifle = dominant at neither, suitable for both. Every other weapon in the game should be built in a similar manner according to range category, and designed to be effective in their own right.

Any opinions?

I prefer dropping the BR for one (or several) of the weapons i mentioned in my other thread, but if it was kept i would like these changes.


Battle Rifle this would be if we kept the BR, but altered it.
Stats
-Single wield.
-Semi auto.
-X2 Scope.
-4 shot kill.
-36 round magazine
Alterations
-Reduce Damage: Overpowering isn't the exact issue though. The issue is how often it's able to be overpowered.
-Reduce clip size: Battle Rifles last forever, and can get multiple kills before reloading. A 24 round magazine would only allow for 2 kills per reload.
-Increase spread at a a distance: This way, the Battle Rifle would be less powerful at distances, and still operate as it does at medium range.


The SMG could possibly use a slight power down, but i see no issues with the AR as it is.

The battle rifle should be replaced with a new rifle that function like the Halo CE pistol. It would have a 12 round magazine and it would be be a 6 round kill with a headshot. Single shot makes headshots harder. It would have the same rate of fire as the Halo CE pistol, 3.5 rounds per second.

That is basically what I am suggesting. However, in an effort to keep it more in tune with realism, the rifle should have a magazine with at least thirty rounds, and should simply be weaker than the Halo CE pistol.

A six round kill is weaker than the CE pistol.

I think a 30 round clip for a 6 shot kill is ridiculous. It would last forever without having to reload. I'd definitely reduce the clip size.

Good point. I just reckoned a twelve round magazine would be a little pathetic for a futuristic rifle. It would be pathetic for a modern day Assault/Battle rifle. But this shouldn't get in the way of gameplay, especially multiplayer.
