Why doesnt the covenant just destroy earth from space? it wouldnt be that hard.Kill them all in a couple blows. Inless they dont destroy earth because somethings on it? like a crystal(i heard something about it from my friend) it would be kinda funny for the bungie to make the covenant fight humans and take loses for no good reason then just blow up earth to kill them all. so what do you think.(about them no just blowing up earth)

ps:my grammar isnt that good.

Through war we will teach your heresy.
Through battle we will teach your frailty.
Through death we will teach your fate.

Hmm, I'm not sure that the Covenant have that kind a long-range fire-power. Plus, I wouldn't make the game any fun...

They do have that long-range fire-power, they could glass Earth from orbit...

yea, if they just destoyed the earth in 2 blows, there wouldnt be much of a sequal, im sure theres some weird reason that we'll know about when the game comes out

it says in one of the books that they are looking for something on earth or else the would just glass it from orbit

  • 04.25.2004 4:34 PM PDT

There are 10 kinds of people in the world: those who know binary, and those who don't.

they dont glass earth from space for a couple of reasons. A) they do have a certain range, and they cant get into that range with earth's defences intact. B) earths defences are near invulnerable unless ground-side generates are destroyed and power to the defences are cut, making a ground insertion nessessary, much like on reach in the fall of reach or first strike. C)elites and brutes and prophets and other high ranking covenant are entertained by fighting in close quarter with humans, where the humans actually have a chance. they send in infantry when its suicide, and the more unlikely survival is the more glorious they're return will be if they survive. the elites and whatnot would prefer to take the final blow to the human race from their own personal plasma rifles and pistols and even their own fists than to blast them into particles from orbit. yes, they might die. in fact, humans win most ground engagements with the covenant provided that they are too severely outnumbered and outgunned(u cant win against thirty navy seals with m4's if ur alon and nake in a spotlight in an open parkinglot, armed with a toothpick). they just live for the glory of battle, and will happily die in persuit of it. and finally D) the covenant didnt know where earth was until it becomes obvious that they did at the very end of first strike, but it is easy to assume that for a long time, they did not.

sry but for some reason they wont let me post opics on make new ones

but i asked my friend and he said

There could be a bunch of reasons.
1. The MC catches a very high ranking Prophet.
2. Covenant Civil war.
3. Maybe they have more plans for Humans than just death.
4. Alien artifact that they do not know the location of. ( They can't risk bombing everything and destroying the artifact.)
5. Interference from another Alien race that doesn't agree with the Covenant.
6. Maybe their fleet gets decimated by us and they can't bomb, only invade. (Mc took out a large portion of their army in Halo: FS.)
7. Maybe they do still bomb it. That would pretty much end the War between the Covenant and the Humans. The MC might be just after revenge.

Also in one of the books it said that they look to Earth as a religious planet, all the Covenant want to do is wipe out the humans, not destroy earth, and if they wanted to blow up earth I can see why your asking, but the Covenant are a religous group of aliens, and think of Earth as a religous place so they just want to get the "human infidels" off the planet.

  • 04.25.2004 4:51 PM PDT

Reach has the crystal on it.Contrary to popular belief Reach WAS NOT totally glassed Some of the Spartans are still alive.I think the reason they won't glass it is because its a religous thing that the Covenant need for some weird reason

  • 04.25.2004 5:16 PM PDT

Basically, they don't want to destroy Earth - they just want to kill all humans.

Theres a million worlds why not just destroy earth and the humans and go look for new worlds if they wanted more living space. or go look for a place like earth

I've heard that they don't want to destroy eart because it could be an ancient forerunner planet. Also maybe they want to make use of earth's resources.

The covenant are religious fundamentalist nutjobs. They don't have to make sense to you puny humans with your unenlightened headmeats.

At the end of First Strike, the High Prophet of Truth, who appears to be the leader of the Covenant, make a refernece to a "Great Journey" that will not be delayed by the destruction of their original invasion fleet at the "Uneven Elephant" thingy. He also says that all their combat ready ships are to join with him before they jump to earth, making seem as if that Prophet himself will be joining the invasion of Earth. He also says that soon they won't need any of the Forerunner artifacts, making the destruction of the crystal from Reach is insignificant. I think that these things can only point to something on (or in) the Earth that will somehow unlock all the secrets of the Forerunners. This would also tie in nicely with a Human-Forerunner connection, with the Forerunners leaving something for the Humans to find "when they're ready".

um mabye its the fact that cotana is/will be on earth she has halos serets and also on reach the super MAC gun things were powerfull enough that they had to kill the generators on the planet first so im asuming reach was the human naval construction place/military planet so it was well defended but we havent been told what earths being defended by, being the humans homeplanet and basicly the last big hope of humanity im thinken itll have better defences than reach did(probbly just more super MAC guns but we realy dont know

I like my Covenant like i like my woman, screamin and with a sticky on there face.

the humans shouldnt have better defenses becvasue they would not expect an attack from the covanent on earth they thought they had keept it a secret, they arent ready for the covenant because they arent explecting it.

Depending on keeping earth's location a secret as the only line of defense would clearly be a foolish and ultimately devastating folly. The Cole Protocol and all other efforts to keep the Covenant from Earth are just attempts to avoid the utter destruction (even if the humans were victorious) from coming to the human's home world. Basically there is no reason why Earth wouldn't be heavily defended.

i read one of the posts and i was thinking, there could be a covonent civil war. the covonent is too large, to ruthlessly ruled and to reliant on other spiecies to keep there war effort going. that would be awsome to teame up whith some rebal eletes and kick some covei butt.

From the First Strike you know how heavily defended Reach is with its 14 MAC Cannons now think about Earth it may have a hundred. You would have to destroy the generators to get near it.

i think the only only reason they don't just blow it up, because the leading prophets and elites have that pride and honor trash.
