If Halo REACH will use in-game engine technology for the cinematics like Halo, Halo 2, and Halo 3 did, would you like it if we can view cinematics in Theater... and detach the camera and view the scenes from different points of view?

that would be pretty awsome.

Why not just walk around while everything is in first person like in Half-Life then? Cinematics are rendered in-game, but have extra features and graphical effects too strong for normal gameplay usually. It may work in some games, but detaching the camera may be a bit too much while ships glass the planet.

Nothing is better than gaming through the day, into the night, then back into the day. It's like when you finally push that power button you feel like you've accomplished nothing, but at the same time, you can't stop smiling.

That would be insanely cool, but extremely hard to pull off. They would have to render way more stuff in every cutscene, making the graphics worse.

They wouldn't necessarily have to render more stuff; the cutscenes would still be made the same way, so it would obviously look best from the default angles. But it would still be cool to detach the camera and fly around, even if a lot of the area looks -blam!-.

Remember exploring outside Delta Halo? I loved it even though it looked like -blam!- compared to the standard path.

maybe but they shouldn't make it available the first time you view it

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

It would be a cool idea, but i dont think you can, there already pre rendered, so i dont think you could. It would be cool though, or atleast a theater like in Halo Wars were you can watch all of the cutscenes would be nice.

They're not pre-rendered, its all in-engine.

They are, but in the same way other vids are made, yes they might be in engine, but its all only made one way, as a scene.

But its all happening real-time so you could detach the camera. The scene may look poorer from another angle (as its optimized for the camera angles and distances in the cinematic) but there would be no problem detaching the camera and flying around. That's how bungie makes the cinematics...

Always here to help! Just ask me how!

You could do this with some tools in Halo 2, which just goes to show that it CAN be done.

I'd love it. I like seeing missing faces, and 2d paintings layered to look like mountais. That's the only reason I used pan cam in H3. I LOVE seeing the behind the scenes stuff. Even in the virtual world.

When we go watch a film in Halo 3 you can watch from different points of view so why couldn't we do that in Reach? We can go everywhere within the map boundries. We can watch from anywhere on the map.

Because the cinimatic levels are just like movie sets. If the camera doesn't see it, it's not there. All smoke and mirrors. A dude walks off screen and dissapears. People spawning just before walking on screen. It would be a huge clusterfawx. And I would enjoy it. I get a kick out of seeing these thins.

NY Giants
Miami Heat

That would make the game take a considerable amount of time to make.

It wouldn't change anything.

Cheewawa...can we not do this now? It was a big success in Halo 3 so why not have it in Reach? Am I missunderstanding your thread?

We can't do it now... I am suggesting we be able to detach the camera in cinematics (such as the Covenant ships' arrival at the Ark in H3) and not just short cutscenes which open up a level.

Still using a pump-action shotgun over 500 years in the future I see.

omg not realistic stop game production plz

I'm not sure, might need a lot of programming considering all the speech and the way they move (long loading time basically). But if it's possible.....I'd love to film a Prophet talking with the camera right in his face.

  • 07.17.2009 3:15 PM PDT

Life is interesting...

I think the cutscenes are just videos and not gameplay.
