We see all of these stats for vehicles in bungie weekly updates; it would be nice if a little number displayed our speed on our HUD while we're in a vehicle. It could be similar to the little number on the sniper scope which shows distance in Halo 1 and Halo 3.

Thoughts?

Only if it is in the Metric System. Such an advanced and futuristic version of Humanity would abolish any other form of measurement system.

Seriously though. If it were in MPH, I would scream.

They could have a toggle option =)
Though they probably would go metric since the sniper scope measures in meters.

It could be like it was in Halo CE There was a little meter that went up the faster you went and when you were at full speed it was at the end of the meter and colored red.
This way numbers could be excluded and all.

Hard to do physics calculations in ones head when you aren't using a base ten measurement system afterall.

Nothing is better than gaming through the day, into the night, then back into the day. It's like when you finally push that power button you feel like you've accomplished nothing, but at the same time, you can't stop smiling.

That would be a cool little detail, but the Warthog already has a meter on it that shows when you're at full speed.

Halo CE, 2 ,3, ODST, Reach

But what about aircraft? YOu'd see that you;re going at lke a bajillion miles per hour

Fixed. And no, you wouldn't be able to fly fast enough to reach (bajillion*1.60) kilometers per hour.

Assuming that Bajillion is an imaginary number greater than Billion, you would be going faster than the speed of light by then. Kinda impossible to do that in a single person aircraft.

Unfreakenbelievable!!

Well, Red Faction:Guerrilla which takes place on Mars uses a Metric system. I don't see why not it couldn't use that system. Though, the English would be easier for the US crowd. But, I wouldn't have much a problem. 100 KmPH ~ about 60 MPH, right?

Yep. One mile is 1.6 kilometers, so just multiply the miles by five, divide by three, and you roughly get the right result.

Halo 3 is a popular game, the inclusion of the metric system could slowly brainwash America into metrification, and the world would be a much better place.

Its a fun detail. Useful for those who are into splattering people with vehicles because they can get an idea of whether or not they are going fast enough to kill with one hit. I know the people over at Death by Mongoose would be overjoyed if such a feature was implemented.

Just because you can't find a use for it doesn't mean other people can't either :)

I'd like it. You could figure out what speed you need to go to kill that bastard who's on a killing spree.

Just a silly example of how it could be used.

that and it would be realistic and i could obey the speed limit

Its not too hard to obey the speed limit, I mean the mongoose's top speed is 96 km / hr (about 55 mph for those of us who are unfortunate enough not to see things in metric).

Actually, 96km/hr = 60mph. What is with your obsession with the Metric system? I like it for doing Math and Physics because it makes conversions easier to do and remember how to do. But, the English system isn't that bad (well, for me anyway).

But, I honestly don't care. They are all just numbers to me. Of course, I am a Math major and numbers just flow smoothly through my mind.

And, besides, the English system is easier to say..."miles", look one syllable. "killometers", four syllables.

Halo is a popular franchise and not everyone knows the English system. More people will know the Metric system and it will be easier. You can abbreviate "kilometers" to "klicks." Still one syllable.

I was unaware that the majority of the Halo population uses the Metric system. I was thinking that most of the community is from the US, which uses 'feet' and 'miles'.
And, is there an alternate abbrivation for centimeters or any of the other prefixes with meter; what about kiloLiters? Either way, I was only joking.

Is a distance/elevation tracker needed on the sniper scope? No, but it's included in Halo 1 and Halo 3. Details make a game; the speeds are already there and calculated... just put it into numbers for us.
