Subject: C4 or Satchels in Reach?

Nothing is better than gaming through the day, into the night, then back into the day. It's like when you finally push that power button you feel like you've accomplished nothing, but at the same time, you can't stop smiling.

I'd like to see not only a wide variety of weapons, both Human and Covenant, but also more gadgets other than weapons and equipment. Whether they're Campaign exclusive or also in multiplayer doesn't matter to me, I just really want to see more things to kill people with in this game.

Your thoughts?

I want less things in the game. Keep it simple. Kind of a Halo CE and Halo 2 hybrid with more Halo CE.

How to spell "space"?

S-P-ACE! SPACE!

They mention satchel charges in the books, so your idea is plausible.
In 2552, they use C12, and it's in an aerosol can. It foams up, and I'm pretty sure it hardens when it's done.
So yes, your idea of remote-detonated explosives is plausible.

Why not just use a grenade? They have the same power as a fusion coil and can't potentially backfire unless your'e an idiot.

I understand what you're trying to get at. You want Halo to go back to it's roots. But "simple" games just don't work too well these days. Back in 2001, people were fine with simple games, but now the standards are higher and the Halo franchise needs to take it to the next level to keep up with games like MW2.

I am of an open mind and I am willing to hear criticism. Also: That's stupid and you're stupid.

We have the Trip Mines, no need to have stealthily hidden explosives.

So a games success is determined by how many useless gameplay features can be forced onto one game disc? Most of the stuff in Halo 3 is absolutely useless. Many weapons perform the same job and some can't even be put into matchmaking because they are unbalanced.

Oh, like the Fuel Rod Gun and the Flame Grenades. Wow, what a list. Those are the only weapons that can't be put into matchmaking.

They're not in MM because you would need to simultaneously render particle effects on up to 16 different 360s, and it lags enough with one flamethrower as it is...

I can see satchels, yeah, but only as a level-specific object you only get once.

Halo 1 might not have a huge weapon set, but the gameplay was by no means, "simple" The game didn't need so much fluff to have variety. The weapons in the game were powerful and unique, and worth picking up. People used almost all of the weapons in Halo 1, even the plasma pistol.

I'd rather a have a game with a "simple" weapon set and items, with deep gameplay, than have a game with so much fluff and shallow gameplay. If that means removing thirty fluff weapons, and leaving only ten unique and useful weapons, then so be it.

Actually, I find that I'm more invincible without pants, which is why I am not wearing any at the moment.

I dont know if this was mentioned, but in 'First Strike' Locklear use's C7 which is a sprayable explosive :o

MW2 didn't do s**t. You don't know that because you haven't played it. So shut up.

If that means removing thirty fluff weapons, and leaving only ten unique and useful weapons, then so be it.

Unfortunately, once you've delivered a whole slew of new content that many players have taken a great liking to, it would be a very large, negative step backward for the majority of its newer gamers, which is not something they want to do. More option never hurt anyone. If there are like-minded people like yourself who want simplicity, then fire up Forge and Customs as they will assuredly reprise their roles as game modes in Reach.

There's nothing wrong with too many options, and with Bungie's recent openness to the creations of the community, you can bet that there will definitely be playlists that utilize certain portions of the engine's arsenal rather than others, so the possibility of seeing that mode of play in Matchmaking isn't all that far-fetched, either.

It'd be nice to have a game like CE again, but I just don't see them stepping backward in that way when there are too many people who have learned to deal with it, adapt to it, or love it. They'd be upsetting more people than they'd be pleasing, in my opinion.

Bungie needs to design the weapons so that each weapon has its uses and no matter what weapon you have you won't get owned too bad. I would prefer they add nothing new unless it replaces something old. Say the BR or AR get replaced with a new rifle that is more balanced but fills the same job. The pistol could be replaced with another model. The covenant weapons really can't be replaced but they can be fixed,

In the books the explosives they use are C-12.

I don't really think stuff like C4 would work in Halo. Maybe they could just use in cutscenes and you just need to get to the area, but I doubt Master Chief or the other Spartans would use it in battle. I just can't see it working.
