Games have very bland and generic stories lately. Knowing Bungie, they always manage to put somewhat of a twist on things, which is great, but could be taken further.

You probably have all had times where you've grown greatly attached to a character in a game. What should happen in ODST is that the story makes you grow so attached to one of the characters, and then make him/her die.

Death is truly the best way to get feeling into a story, and something like death, that is very real in our world, really pushes emotions and feeling into a story. Whether it make you upset, or whether it drives you to complete the rest of the tasks left in the story, it's one experience that has a big impact on people.

So what do you think about the idea of having a death of a character a big factor in ODST?

The Rookie would probably bring the most emotions out of people, although I'm with you. I don't want the Rookie to die either.

Oh, I was unaware of that. I thought you just played their flashbacks of important events of their time in New Mombasa. Thanks for the info!

Yeah, I found a video on youtube with Joseph Staten explaining the game. You are a rookie running into clues of fallen soldiers, and you basically replay the last moments in your mind.

So is this a guess, or did you play the game? NO ONE KNOWS YET! BUNGIE KEEP'S SECRETS!

There's a youtube video with Joseph Staten clearly stating it.

Golf Wang. Brony.

No. We don't know how each ODST will end up. Who knows? Bungie doesn't have to stick to our expectations, everyone dying while we play as them dead. For all we know someone gets betrayed, someone dies, and someone gets to live to fight another day.

Some people think Bungie set it up predictably. I oppose that, as the story can be truly great. Tons of twists could happen.

My take? You don't exactly who dies, even with the flashbacks. After the last offical one, your time free roaming in New Mombassa has ended. The UNSC regroup, and you find out for sure who makes it to the conclusion, and see the whole game end on the story that has yet to be completed: your own.

EDIT: What he's talking about is the E3 stuff we already know about.

Oh okay. I wasn't really paying too much attention on ODST during E3 because of all the new Lost Planet 2 stuff being shown. I'm gonna go look up some of the E3 stuff now.

As for your theory, sounds good. A betrayal would be cool, and there's so many things that could go wrong or right in the mission on New Mombasa.

I guess time will tell and we'll have to wait until September.

Well, I have a video right here on my iPod, and he says nothing like that. He probably just said that that one time. Interviews are all different.

The Flashbacks may or may not tell you if they die or not but not all the ODSTs are dead. Some of them might die and others might not. Its worth noting that the game does continue after all the flashbacks have been experienced. The timelines converge and the story moves forward.

I have a feeling Dare dies. If you saw the leaked achievements, you'd probably feel the same way. On that same note, I think Buck probably dies too. His service record shows that he has survived countless of battles, including Reach. Having him die in such a situation will show just how desperate the war had become and adds an extra layer of depth to hardcore fans of the lore.

Needless to say, Joseph Staten is writing the story. And if I am not mistaken, he was greatly responsible for Halo 2's story. I still applaud Halo 2's story really well as it offers a layer of depth and complexity to the story to hardcore and new fans alike.

ODST is a mystery, gritty story. Some heavy -blam!- is going to go down in the city. I won't be surprised if the Rookie dies as well.

Yea anyone but the rookie. In every game the rookies the collest. Like in Gears of War 2, when the rookie died i was very sad because he was my favorite.

I just like to play Halo, and chill on the Flood.

I hope Romeo doesn't die. He's my favorite already.

Some death always spices up the story line. Killing off miranda keyes, and especially johnson in halo 3 made it feel more dramatic. However, halo 1 had the best feel behind it for me, mainly because of the mystery and unknown that was everywhere. Who are the forunners? What is this ring? Who the -blam!- are these guys shooting my ship up at the very start of the game? I feel that ODST will have a big mystery feel that will make the storyline great.
