This apple is brown, and rotten. This orange on the other hand, is in relatively average shape. So the orange is definitely the preferable option. ----------You can't compare apples and oranges. You're so dumb.

I don't know why everyone thinks just because the Spartans have a 2(or higher) in the beginning of their numbers that they aren't S-II's. There was a huge variety of children to be possibly chosen as candidates for the program.
That means some children with numbers larger than 200(Like OMG rite?) can still be Spartan II's.
No this is not possible.
Spartan Programme looked for some very specific genes (or gene patterns? Is that right expression?) There were 150 candidates.. of those only 75 were accepted due budget. Of those, only 33 survived the training.
All Spartan IIs had callnumbers less than 151 (1-150).
Spartan IIIs genetic requirements were a lot looser, that's why there were 3 S-III companies, each of which had 300-330 Spartan IIIs.
EDIT, Nicole 4something is not canonical as she is a combatant in DOA4
Also, I Love Bees described Spartan II Class 2 but according to Bungie, ILB is not canonical.
Spartan IIIs identify there squad before there number. They announced there call sign, the exact same way a Spartan II does. The image of Spartans for Halo: Reach, can't be of Spartan IIIs. One guy is clearly wearing MK V. Another guy is clearly taller than most Sp IIs. Beyond that, it doesn't make sense for any Sp IIIs to exist on Reach. The only unaccounted for Spartan IIIs are Gamma company. And according to Halo wiki, they were deployed a few weeks after Reach fell. It doesn't make sense for the game to take place a few weeks after reach fell.
In the teaser trailer, the spartans announce their presence during the battle of Reach. The tagline for Halo: Reach is, "falls 2010". Unless Bungie has gotten into the habit of hiring illiterate people, its safe to say atleast part of Halo: Reach occurs during the fall of Reach. Which means, unless there was a Spartan IIII project, running concurrently with the Spartan III project, they are spartan IIs.
When Bungie created Nicole, they said it was because Team Ninja asked to use Masterchief. But they said they couldn't let them use Masterchief because he was fictionally busy. So they created Nicole, and the fiction behind her.
So what im saying is, Nicole always had a fictional background, based in the Halo universe. She was born in 2531, Spartans are conscripted at the age of six. That means Nicoles backstory fits in with ILBs statement that the second generation of spartan IIs were conscripted in 2537. This would place the conscription of second generation spartan IIs as occuring in the same year Beta company was authorized, two years before SP IIIs were conscripted, and four years before the SP IIIS had gone through augmentation. Is it possible ONI didn't put all of its eggs in one basket? Especially when it became clear that the SP III project could not deliver on the promise of hundreds of thousands of Spartan IIIs.
Here is a quote from Joseph Staten, from a couple years back. He was talking about the Cortana letters. But its possible what he said applies to Nicoles backstory.
The Halo story has as many loose threads as influences. And we do our best to sew the former into canon as we find them - are reminded of their potential. The Cortana Letters are an excellent example of this phenomenon. For all sorts of reasons, they lingered in canonical purgatory for years. But when we needed some compelling dialog to remind folks what's at stake in Halo3: Bam! Newfound utility! Alas, I'd have to say that, as of now, the only canonized parts of the letters are the fragments we pulled for use in the announcement trailer.
I think Bungie was looking at where they could go next. And they thought, "maybe its not such a bad idea to have a second generation of Sp IIs afterall". So they built on the small frame work, established by the backstory of Nicole. They canonized parts of her backstory. That they were all born in and around , 2531, and persumably that the second generation spartan two project began six years later.
