I think this would be an excellent idea. For example, if someone wanted to get rid of all the inactive members, they could see how many posts each member has made in the group and see whether they should stay or not. I think we should have an option to have one and if we want to turn it on or off. And if a flame war happened, it would be the administrator's problem, since Bungie doesn't normally interfere with groups, right?

Haven't all of us decided that any post counter is a bad idea?

  • 06.01.2005 6:07 PM PDT

I'm not that active, but never dead.

Allthough, I do agree that a post counter would be bad...Bring back the Activity Log!

Activity log is sort of what I was thinking. Just so the admins can remove inactive members.

Well, I guess in big groups that would work great, but in a mid size group from say around...40-100, the security guys would usually know who was active and who wasnt, assuming they themselves were active.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Who cares if they stay or not? It's not like you have a limited amount of room for people in your chapter.

No, but it's psychological. If you have in-active members, and you respond by blacklisting them or even banning them, the other members may just stay more active because they don't want to be blacklisted or banned.

The point is, no there isn't a limited space, but no one likes inactive members.

In regards to the post counter, i think it will be a good idea, as long as it is impliamented properly. i.e. the post numbers are only avaliable for the highest rank to see. That way, not even staff can see, and therefore, you can tell if they should be demoted or promoted.

But as someone here said, it would work best in larger chapters. However, it may not be completely un-useful for other sized groups. If a small group doesn't need it, they don't have to use it.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

What? What privacy? How many posts you make?

Not really, because if you are inactive and you get banned or blacklisted, what are you going to care? You don't visit that chapter anymore so it's no skin off your back. Other members could see inactive members getting blacklisted, but there is no incentive for them to stay because of that. You leave because you lost interest, and the members that are still there stay because they retain that interest, not because if they become inactive they'll be banned.
The point is, no there isn't a limited space, but no one likes inactive members.
Then just kick them out, you know who they are.

Now that I think of it, it would just help to see who is active and who isn't. I guess there is no need to get rid of them them. But still, an activity log would help. Maybe a last post in the group or something like that.

We are kind of having a little problem with inactivity in The Seventh Column (link in sig). You can tell it's not that active because the forum is being bumped every month or so. It would be nice to have an activity log though to get things put back together and find out who's helping out and who's being a burden.

I'm not that active, but never dead.

For those of you that joined up after the New Hotness, there used to be an activity log with the old websites code.

It would show many things that had happened in the last 24 hours:
* New posts/replies
* Any votes made using the old Sidebar Poll (Gone as well).
* New members joined/queued to join.
* Members left.
* Anything added to the Databases (GuestBook, Articles, Custom, etc.)

And that's about all I can remember.
I don't think that the activity log will be coming back any time soon. However, this is really a question that Achronos could answer.

Well us back from the old column remembers the activity log back for the chapters. However the only thing I missed from the old column was the members online box on the homepage.

Actually, I just saw what the old column was like (using google) and apparently, there was a "Current Activity Rate". I wish they would bring that back, even though I wasn't here during the old hotness.

Although it's not bad of an idea, having a post counter would make members fight and squarrel with each others and bragging who gets to stay or not. It can actually happen and they could brag their rights off.

An activity log isn't bad but I'm still skeptical about it though.

Yeah, I don't know what it was like to have, since I wasn't here during the old hotness. They should bring it back though.
