Looks like Microsoft have realised that just slapping the name "Halo" onto anything and everything is one sure-fire way to get money.

If Bungie stays true to the canon established by the book, then there are no Halos in the game, nor were there any in Contact Harvest, Cole Protocol, Ghosts of Onyx, etc. so the purpose of the name is just to make kids think, 'I liked Halo 3, I haven't got a clue what Reach is but I'll buy the game anyway 'cause it's Halo!'

Even Halo 3 should have been called 'The Ark' or 'Halo: Rebuilt' as the Halo that had a brief appearance at the end was the same one as from the first game.

I reckon calling this upcoming game 'The Fall of Reach' would sound much more epic and grand in scale, and be more in keeping with the truth.

Noooo, they call it Halo : Reach because it's made by Bungie and because the story is relate somehow to the Halo universe.
This is just the name of the serie and people are confused because it's also the name of a device within the serie.

Do act so certain. A halo could work its way in somehow. We know so little about the story that anything is possible.

It's set in the Halo universe....

The one in the first game was destroyed, smarts, and the reason its called "Halo" is because its part of the "Halo" franchise.

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

Yes, slapping the word "Halo" will help with sales, but that's not why its there. Halo, within the game, is a ring world, but Halo in the real world is the name of the series. Whether or not content related to that universe actually involves a Halo ring is irrelevant. For example, "Fall of Reach" is properly titled "Halo: Fall of Reach."

Besides, call it "fall of reach" will cause confusion among those not familiar with the halo novels, or not familiar enough with the Halo series at all.

Actually, I find that I'm more invincible without pants, which is why I am not wearing any at the moment.

True, but the fall of Reach did lead up to the discovery of the first Halo.

"Thoughts are the shadows of feelings; always darker, emptier, and simpler."

It's the Halo universe, therefore the title Halo: Reach is perfectly acceptable.

The reason Halo is in the title is so that parents will instantly buy it for their little brats.

What a well thought-out and completely conclusive observation!

It's called a brand name. If Mass Effect 2 took place entirely on the ground, with no weapons or spaceships, while this would be a really boring game, it would still be Mass Effect 2, regardless of the fact that the "Mass Effect" makes no appearance.

Also, no official source has ever made any attempt to label the story as "following the books". Why should we automatically assume it will?

$.50 in store credit.

It takes place in the Halo universe, so it is a Halo game.

It has the name "Halo" because it's part of the Halo storyline...

it doesn't have to have a Halo in it in order to be called Halo...

But it's still part of the "halo universe", so it being called Halo: Reach is fine.

  • 07.18.2009 11:11 AM PDT

Twitter | Nothing

"Halo" is now a brand name for a whole host of different products including books, graphic novels, games and probably in the future movies. The "Halo" name is there in all of those products to let you know that they are set in the same universe. It's an easily recognisable name, just like Star Wars. Not all the books and films feature Darth Vadar, Death Stars or even wars that take place in the galaxy (the stars).

"Thoughts are the shadows of feelings; always darker, emptier, and simpler."

The first book, Halo: First Strike didn't even have a Halo in it. No one complained then, why should they complain now?

  • 07.18.2009 11:32 AM PDT

-Meh

They put Halo into the name because it's based in the Halo universe and it also tells the gamer what the game is about. Think before you post something ignorant about an amazing game.

  • 07.18.2009 11:37 AM PDT

Life is interesting...

Well being it is a prequel to the Halo series then it is only natural that Halo will be in the name.

It's just a name. It's not a way of marketing; it's not a way of getting peole to buy it; it's just a name. Just look at the books in the series. Even the book, Halo: Fall of Reach, has the word "Halo" in it. It's to let people know it's about the Halo universe. No matter where the game takes place, the Halo rings are still in its universe, and play an important role in it.

Another example of a game series doing this is the Elder Scrolls series. The "Elder Scrolls" themselves are rarely mentioned until the fourth game in the series, Oblivion. It doesn't have to make sense to get into the title. Just play the game for what it is: a game. The title is unimportant.

It is part of bungie's 'Halo Universe' therefor its a Halo game.

The first book was Halo: The Fall of Reach. It was released about a month before the first game was.

93% of statistics are lies. Formerly Xfire Grunt. Unfortunately, you can't change the WLID for your BNET account, so I had to create an alternate account. My other WLID was spam city (and it was my e-mail account too).

I have yet to find any medals of honor, calls of duties, orange boxes, or life shocks in any of my other games either.
