Call GameStop, and ask to speak with the manager. Tell him what happened, and he'll settle everything for you.

BTW I thought Halo fan boys were bad lol

  • 07.18.2009 7:44 AM PDT

That is soooo annoying. I hate Gamestop employees that assume you're retarded. Normally half the stuff they try to tell you is wrong anyway.... like the girl at Gamestop who said Halo ODST was $60 because they were using a whole new engine and it took them so long to make it.

I was like "uh, it's using the Halo 3 engine and Bungie has been open about the fact that they have been working on it for just over a year or something."

idiots, anything to make a sale i guess.

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”
- Dawes, A little bit of everything

Ok, while I think that CoD: MW2 is going to be a good game I do not think that because of some idiot's mistake at Game Stop that you should have to buy it. I say go talk to them and tell them that they made a mistake. I'm sure they'll understand. You might end up buying Modern Warfare 2, but that will have been YOU buying it and not this Cod enthusiast at Game Stop. =p

i seen this on gamespot.com.

  • 07.18.2009 8:12 AM PDT

That's why you check your receipt right as you get it.

As for those who act like "OMG Modern Warfare 2 is awesomezorz1!!11!," I really don't get it. Seriously, the only real gameplay that has been shown is one level. From that level, all we can see is one significant engine tweak, a few new weapons and gadgets, a new setting, and snowmobiles. Only the engine tweak and the snowmobiles are things that can't be modded into the PC version of CoD4. Although I am going to get it, I don't think it will revolutionize gaming as we know it. It will just be a good game.

Personally, I think that Treyarch should make "special" editions of Modern Warfare 2 just for people like the clerk in the original post.

  • 07.18.2009 10:20 AM PDT

Gamestop is stupid. I had to literally YELL at a salesperson that I didnt want a used version of Oblivion. He acted like I was crazy and stupid for not wanted a USED version.

No seriously report the guy.

If a customer came in pre-ordering Halo 3: ODST at my location and I put Call of Duty on his receipt I would be instantly sacked, no questions asked. I happen to like my job which is why I would never do that.

The guy can easily be fired and you can definitely swindle a discount out of it if you -blam!- enough, our managers are pretty wishy-washy.

  • 07.18.2009 10:33 AM PDT

What's the problem? Assuming you reserved it and have $8 in total on ODST at the moment, having a reservation for MW2 for free isn't a problem. It's not like you have to buy it.

  • 07.18.2009 10:34 AM PDT

Well, in your situation, I would go back to the Gamestop, and find the manager and file a formal complaint. If you make it sound worse, they might just give you the same amount for ODST, and let you keep the MW2. But seriously, people like this really annoy me. Why does one game have to be pre-ordered, and the other one doesn't? Anyway, I'm sure you can get that guy reprimanded, and make him feel like an idiot. Who knows how many other people he's done the same thing to.

Well let's not turn this into a Call of Duty flamefest, guys. No matter what game you order, you, the customer, should get what you wanted. As much as you might want to piss off the guy by complaining to him, do not do so. Make a calm complaint to the manager of that GameStop. And if you do not receive any form of reimbursement (such as money back or a discount) make this a corporate problem. I hope you realize how big of a problem this is. You made a specific order and the clerk failed to fulfill said order properly. You should also make them fix the name on your receipt. You don't want any problems when you go to pick up your game.

this.

Really there is no need to go in and explode, but the employee needs to realize he is paid to do a job. if he doesn't do that job, it's your responsibility to go and report it to his manager, this way you will help prevent this happening to you in the future. also, get your name fixed, you don't want it thrown in your face that you didn't preorder ODST when the game comes out...

Been a while? Sorry about that.

I've had trouble with the people at Gamestop all the time. The best way I know of to resolve a situation like that is if your a teen or minor to bring an adult (preferably blood related and you know) into the store with you and have them say that the person yesterday made a mistake with the (input subject here) and I would like to (input action here) for (input new subject here). Then if there's still a problem (kids stay out of this teens support) just simply complain and say something like "can I please talk to your manager" and if after talking to that person it's still an issue then submit a report of the entire situation and after that there's not much else you can do. If you are an adult basically you aren't considered a feeble minded entity by the feeble minded employees and they'll pay attention to you so you can do all the stuff above on your own. Also if you think you can and liked previous Call of Duty games maybe you should keep the order and try getting your hands on it along with ODST. Gamestop tries to take advantage of its customers, especially minors; don't necessarily trust them with things and don't get mad at them or you'll be the one in trouble. I've had to come back in one time because I payed 60 bucks for a game and when I opened the case they gave me there was no CD in it and I had to have them check their inventory for the CD. Gamestops a pain, pre-order through Amazon (they'll send you the code via the email ordering the game for Sgt. Johnson but it may take them a little while) it's a whole lot more stress free in my opinion.

  • 07.18.2009 10:43 AM PDT

That guy is a complete idiot, but I don't think Gamestop is bad I would have just preordered it online. But you should contact the manager to get your money back and maybe that guy will get fired.

  • 07.18.2009 10:51 AM PDT

When I went to gamestop to reserve ODST they mentioned MW2 once or twice but I'm a regular there so I didn't get spammed or anything. I did check my receipt though :P

You know.. Funny you should mention about crazy store clerks and Modern Warfare 2. I was at my local games retailer (I live in Singapore so its Asia too) today to put pre-orders down for the LEs of Halo 3: ODST, Dragon Age: Origins and Modern Warfare 2.

Dude at the counter took down my name and contact number and got me to write what I was there to pre-order. I did that and well, yea. He takes the slip of paper and looks at me, repeating to me what I had written to make sure he got it right. All of a sudden, he stops, looks at me and says "I think you've made a mistake sir". And I'm all like "I beg your pardon?"

And, with the most serious face, he looks at me and says,

"It says here you pre-ordering both the Halo ODST and Modern Warfare 2?"

"Yea I am. Huge fan of shooters and those 2 series in particular"

"Why would you do that?"

"Like I said, I like Halo and COD4 was great"

"I would highly recommend that you cancel your order for Halo ODST, sir"

At this point, I'm getting slightly irritated as I was hungry and wanted to go eat lunch. But I waited and tried to find out more.

"Why?"

"Because you probably won't be spending much time with this Halo game when Modern Warfare 2 comes out. I would also recommend cancelling your order for Dragon Age"

"How do you know that?"

" Have you seen their trailers!?" Dude then proceeds to take a remote and play both the Halo 3: ODST trailer and the Modern Warfare 2 trailer and looks at me.

I'm pissed at this point of time as he had easily just wasted 4 minutes of my time. Dude continues talking.

"So, can I cancel that order now, sir?"

I get pissed off and tell him "Look, its my money. I spend it how I want. Just give me a call when you get the games." And with whatever patience I had left, I muttered "Thanks"

As I walk out the store, he says in chinese "Idiot is just wasting his money."

I'm Indian but know my fair bit of chinese. I turned, shot him a stare and walked off.

God why is everyones gamestop retarded but the ones by me? We actually have great employees, they don't tell you all that crap and if you should cancel it or -blam!-. Like wow right now.

it's weird... i live right in the middle of 3 EB games(Canadian Gamestop, same company), and all of the employees at all three are huge fans of both franchises and really up sell them both... with the exception of one... and they are huge into halo.... but never question a COD game...

1. Actually it is still COD, if you check the boxart.

2. A matter of opinion in which you have no way to prove one or the other.

3. Some people like to pick up the game to know you can get it on release date.

4. Incredibly racist even if it is a joke.

Quadruple fail.
