"Thoughts are the shadows of feelings; always darker, emptier, and simpler."

The guns sound like they do because it's more realistic. Next time you play MM listen to the weapons. You'll notice that the AR sounds like it did in Halo: CE when you're in front of it. Guns are made to kill your opponent, not to deafen you at the same time.

why do you want more blood and gore? whats the point? it's not going to keep little kids from playing it, and it's completely unnecessary!

While I don't agree that the sound effects for guns are necessarily a problem -- that is strictly an opinion thing --, I absolutely believe that Halo 2 and Halo 3 don't earn their M rating. They are some of the most tame and self-restrained games to get the M rating I've ever seen.

And that's a problem?!?! You never used to see blood and gore like you do today. Sure there was blood sometimes, but that wasn't a problem. Now it has evolved into blowing a person into a million pieces, or "ripping someone's arm off!" I can understand some blood and gore, and maybe even mild language, to an extent. Sometimes it adds some atmosphere. Other times, other times, it's put into games for people to rot their minds on. It's gotten to the point where people will just play a game, or watch a movie, for the gore, and not like it if it doesn't have enough for their "high standards."

*EDIT*
Also, in response to the whole, "It doesn't live up to its M rating," they could just take the rating down to T.

i dont think they should make it more mature, but they should do something about the blood. in halo 3 the blood is kinda boring. i hope they make it more "alive" in halo reach.
ps: if you wanna play a game with guns that sound like they are doing some damage, play bad company. it feels like the guns are just about to fly off your arm XD

as much as i hate that game battlefield games sure do know how to make the guns sound AMAZING!

You feel powerful no matter which one you use.

Shut up you puss. (meant in the nicest, most sarcastic way as possible.)

I want my damn gore.

If someone's ticking me off for a whole match, jumping up and down like a retard while I try to get ONE decent snipe on him, his death had BETTER be satisfying. Big bullets take heads off. If not, they sure as hell crack visors and liquidize faces.

Here's another post I've made on this matter.

For God's sake, Tough =\= indestructible!

If anyone's taken a quick look at the Halo arsenal and what the Spartans are up against, do you honestly think they would just bounce and flip around? I do, just in every direction at once. Look at the spartan laser. That HUGE red beam that doesn't stop when it hit's your chest. That huge red glowing liquid splash effect it makes on impact. That's MORE than enough to pierce or even SHRED the armor in the game. Armor doesn't protect, it just makes you die slow enough to fight off whatever is killing you. If you die, that probably means the armor has failed.

An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it.
- Jef Mallett

I agree with the others, why do games have to be horrifically gory to be good? I like Halo the way it is. Sure, the tone of the game could be darker, but that doesn't necessarily mean it needs to have more gore and mature language in it.

As for the original topic. I think the weapons could sound a little deeper and powerful, but they are all right as they are.

And Bad Company does sound very realistic.

Graphics in campaign are great already
Gun noises need work

Halo 3 = Gears 2

People seem to be constantly forgetting that it is not ok to suggest great features from other games.

Character Artist -- Electronic Arts

Every gun except for the AR sounds great.

More mature? Well, thats debatable. Halo 3 does not need to crutch on cursing or melodrama to sell itself as a mature game.

Honestly, the sound quality in Halo 3 as far as explosions and Guns is only matched by Bad Company.

Also, Grunge gets old quick, and that is Bungie's most significant design aspect. If something gets old after a while, they will change it for lasting appeal.

Guns don't have to be loud to sound effective. Adding more base to the AR would make it sound tougher without making it louder at all (I think).

And realisticly guns are very loud. I visited my brother on an airforce base once. I kept wondering why I was hearing slightly distant thunder, but there weren't any stormclouds around. I finally asked my brother about the sound. He explained that I was hearing M16's on the firing range inside the concrete bunker on the other side of the base about a half mile away.

Fighting inside buildings can be problematic because weapons are loud, but you can't wear ear protection like you can on an indoor range because you need to be able to hear your squadmates.

As for gore. Personally I find that it doesn't add anything to a game, and sometimes is distracting. It would probably take a lot more bandwidth than it was worse to keep everyones console updated with all of the bullet holes and chips in multiple players armor. Besides, in my expereience I either don't get shot much at all or I'm dead. I also don't bother to check what my opponent looks like before I start putting rounds down range. If it's an enemy I'm gonna shoot first and look at what he's wearing never.

I know the irony in complaining about childishness with a name like mine, but maybe upping sound and vibration on guns will improve the game feel
Like the grunge idea as well

Halo 3 sounds childish?

OK here's a tip, get a set of speakers with a subwoofer or good bass range and turn it up! The MA5C could drown out an infant's shrill screams, the grenades sound like thunder and even echo realistically. Even the *pew pew* -ing plasma rifle sounds badass.

It doesn't have to be too expensive, I got my speaker/subwoowfer and another speaker with excellent bass range for free.

You know it's funny. I frequent The Escapist Magazine forums and a lot of people there would profess to love Crysis and hate Halo 3. They often complain about bloom in Halo 3 yet look at Crysis, the bloom is the same if not more.

how about highly stylized thing streams of blood coming out of crack and holes in your beat up mjolnir mixing with the sand in the air. faint cracks on the side of your visor. scratched up paint. chips of ceremic flying off of the titanium plates that compose you armor.

for the zombies in infection there visors should be crack up alot. most of the ceremic would have crumbled off of there rusty titanium (i have no clue if titanium rusts but that would add a great effect to the zombies none the less)

it doesnt. rust is iron oxide

halo 3 is a good game, it just seems a little, childish.

can we please get some decent gun noises, and maybe grunge up the graphics a bit? im not saying make it more realistic, keep the same stylized look, but just make everything look a bit more battered and worn then in halo 3.

with the gun noises, im sure you could make them sound more dangerous, currently the AR sounds like a popcorn maker, the plasma weapons just feel weak, and the BR i think, could do with some work.

imo, the only weapon that sounds good is the spartan laser, it scares the -blam!- out of you when you get nailed to the ground out of nowhere, and sounds cool from a distance.

gears 2 is a good example i think, although the gameplay got old real fast, the first night me and my mates played it we were blown away by the sound effects, they really sounded like they would do some damage. i just want that same experience with halo reach :)

i love this idea now i dont have to listen to 5 year olds in match making

i agree completely. turn up the gloom, violence, bass, and swearing and turn down the color, brightness, and tone.
i would absolutely love to see an elites torso come apart after a shotgun blast to the chest. but not to the point where it rivals the gore in gears 2. its rated m, why not make it feel like youre playing a rated m game.

ps. i also wanna see a grunts head explode after a sniper round craks from a distance and the methane tubes connecting to his mask flail out of controll as its lifeless body crumples to the ground

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

More damage would be nice. It would be great if where you got shot showed damage, so that the longer you survived, the more damage would be shown on your armor.

Shots taken to shields would leave small scorch marks, and then once the shields were down, then damage would cause gouges in the armor.

Gore isn't necessary, but I would like giblets from rockets.
