i see what your going for but 34 players sounds like a lag fest. and its too vehicle based

the thing about being in smaller groups like 5 vs. 5 is that theres a greater sence of individuality and that you can change the outcome of the game

MaMaMaMikers

Yeah that would be super laggy, unless of course Bungie makes it so where their isn't.Otherwise I would love it.

not every one likes halo. actually its not that many. the halo like factor is like a beam. you must be right in the middle of the beam to like halo. when youre in the middle you love halo. but if your slightly outside of the beam, you hate halo. :) anyways, halo reach will be awesome. bungie said it XD

RAWR!

34 v 34! do you know how big that map would have to be! plus it seem like the defenders didnt have a chance if 4 tanks and pelicans come at them at once! how the hell is that fair! terrible idea!

I spread my BR like butter on bread

Well they could give dedicated servers a try, even though they should have you be able to join a match if someone leaves or gets booted that way teams could stay even

I did not know Halo 3 had 18 players lol

A well-built sniper rifle is a beautiful thing. Mine has two separate levels of zoom: 'Up-close-and-personal' and 'Hello-you're-dead'.

34vs34?!?!?!
That will be feast of lag!
Lagtacular!

Halo isn't built right to have that many people, but a new engine would be able to do it.

  • 07.18.2009 9:30 AM PDT

Would it be possible to do something like MAG? The developers worked around lag, and they have like over 100 players per match.

Go play Battlefield: 1943 if you want vehicular/squad-based combat.

I wouldn't mind some battlefield type maps as long as they still have the more traditional smaller maps.

I don't think halo would ever get on a massive scale like this. And i hope it never does. This would change the game so much it wouldn't even feel like halo anymore.

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

so imagine starting up the reach beta, going into matchmaking capture the flag. instead of 18 people maximum, it would be 34 vs. 34. soon as you spawn your in an aircraft hangar. you see 3 people hop into a pelican and watch it lift away. by that time i would be staring blankly at my screen with my mouth wide open. all the pelicans are gone so you go into the covenant U shaped dropship (forgot what it was called) when you fly out you see an army of guass warthogs driving through the snowy terrain.

and when you reach the enemy flag you see a pelican get blasted out of the sky by 3 stationary guass warthogs. as you land you get the enemy flag and attempt to fly away. but before you can get back into the covie dropship a scorpion blows it up. you look over the cliff to se all of the 34 enemies are coming torwards you, and ofcourse you feel -blam!-. then a fleet of scorpions and 4 pelicans clear the threat and you fly away with the flag.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
but lets not daydream, cuz most likely reach multiplayer will be nothing like halo: custom edition's multiplayer, which is pitiful because random modders can make better maps.
but if bungie could find a way past this preformance and gameplay issue, reach will have the best multiplayer... EVER. modern warfare 2's multiplayer would be a ghost town, reach would dominate xbox live.

Okay, as said, a 34 v. 34 game would look like 2 frames a second of animation. It would be so choppy, it's not funny. The map size would be larger than sand trap and the loading time would be unbearable.

the 8 vs 8 is great, and it doesn't need to be upgraded because of the afore mentioned reasons. This is why the forge mode in Halo 3 has item caps, so as not to overload the game engine and the councel.

Mob of Angry Peasants

My dream multiplayer mode is a UNSC vs Covie BF 1942 map where the players are either Spartians for UNSC or Elites for Covenant. Capture landing zones which bring in weapons and vehicles and act as a spawn/ entry point into the map or you can IA in via Drop Pod (Covenant or ODST) Phantoms and Drop ships can use their turrets to ward off attackers from Hot LZs and pelicans can shoot their missles and gunns too. LZ will grow in size the longer they are held for and eventually can take heavy vehicles and even gian vehicles like Elephant or even a Scarab.

And as for bots like Grunts and Marines.

UNSC Bots
Common
Crewman/Construction Workers: The Navy guys on Autmn or those Traxus civilians in the storm. Only with a pistol and not the best fighters. They mainly repair vehicles and stay at camps and on USNC ships and instaliations.

Pilot: Not the best fighter but probibly one of the best drivers you can get if you want to gun.

Marines: The most common UNSC Bot out there. Watch out for those snipers and don't laugh if one charges you with a shotgun.

ODST: The elite Marines that can be seen IA (Instant Action) Covie attack going well untill a few drop pods show up and these guys punch out with BRs SMGs and Shotguns and Rockets/Lasers.

Special
Cyclops: They can only stay at the LZ that is large enough to get a power generator. They can grab rubble and throw or use brutal meele attacks. if Power cenerator is destroyed they are imobile.

Navy Recon(SEAL): These Black Op Troops are used by ONI for top secret missions. They got a rough reversed engineered verson of the active camo (the kind that can only fool a gurnt) or a small jet pack that can perform small flights or high jumps. Armed with Snipers SMGs and even the Spartian Laser if you see them kill them before they hurt you BAD.

Body Guards: You can see these guys mostly around UNSC Map Bosses (they guy you need to kill on some maps) They usually dual wielding pistols or SMGs and have an insane accuracy and CQB skills.

Boss
UNSC Commander: Captian Keys, Lord Hood, Miranda, These are the guys in charge of the battle and are the top priorty for assination.

AI Conscript: be it Cortonna of Serena these are verry well protected by force shield walls and automated turrets. Hit the switches or damage vital systems to end this mini maze to gain access to the vital core.

Covenant

Common

Engineer: Those guys that never showed up in a game save for HAL0 WARS. They'll be unarmed but great repair men at bases.

Grunt: These guys will follow you wherever you go and will fight by you side as long as you live. Just don't expect them to fight much longer if you die. At well established LZs you get vetran Black ops grunts who will carry plasma rifles and Fuel Rod Guns and can cloak if you are cloaked.

Jackels: Two kinds Shielded ones wich will form a wall you can stand behind and only carry one handed weapons, and snipers which will stan behind a wall or line and carry carbine or snipers. The snipers can jump pretty high to get good vantage points.

Special

Hunters: Remember the one level you get to have these guys fight at your side. One word AWSOME

Drones: They can fly in swarms and have minor repair capabilities but really love to tear up stuff. Watch them dismantel an enemy camp as you capture the LZ.

Brutes: and Brute Packs. Say if no one is playing covenant or Spartians out number elites 10 to one you can count on these guys comming in. Don't get to close to them though. They may fight for the covenant but they don't like elites. Atleast you don't get any grief for killing one of them. But if it is a pack count on killing the whole pack.

Elite/Brute Honor Guards: Watch these guys around the Bosses.

Boss:
Prophet: Surounded by his body guard and in his flying chair with heavy plasma beems. See if you can catch a ride and give him a hit.

Brute Chieftain: Not like the HAL0 3 runn of the mill easy to mow down pack leaders. This is the guy like tarterus with that stupid shield. Need snipers and plasma pistols to take care of the shield. After that tear into him with all you got if there is anything left.

Neutral:

common:
Flood: Looke there is a nice underground tunel you can go into to sneak behind enemy lines, be careful if you decide to dwell too deep.

Sentenals: They have been fighting their war longer than your ancestors crawling out of the ocean, and now you are in their way.

special:
Pure Forms: Didn't we warn you about dwelling too deep.

H2 super sentinals. So you think bring a tank will keep you safe. Wait untill this one grabs you and rips you out of the drivers seat.

boss
Hive host: How do you fight a gravemind rencarnated? You have to kill the whole concisious of the flood. Didn't we mention that flood spors disable radar.

Monitor: Watch the blinking lightbulb change from blue to red. Now get ready for a repulsion field and eye beam to ruin your day.

That sounds an awful lot like a combination of Star Wars Battlefront II and Halo Wars.
