The strongest Rivals are also the strongest allies.

it costs money, bungie like the remainder of the money which microsoft took from them.

I agree, Halo Reach needs dedicated servers. We pay £40 a year for Xbox Live, and all we're basically paying for is for Bungie/Microsoft to use our own internet connections to host games.

Imo, if Battlefield 1943, a £10 game, can have dedicated servers, then I don't see why a game that costs four times as much can't.

No....

Too many people to have servers. Also, host advantage still exists with servers. The closer you live to the server, the more of an advantage you have.

You can never get rid of host advantage online. Not now, anyway.

No! America will be fine but you have NO IDEA how much the ruins the game for any other country. L4D Servers + Aussie = Always red bar no matter what! Servers = fail.

BRING BACK BUNGIE WEST! Host a server there why not?!

Presumably there would be servers on every continent... so Australians would play on servers located in Australia. But Servers do not remove host advantage, because you have more of an advantage the closer you live to the server.

OP, now you're talking alright!

servers = win. let us choose on which server we connect so we won't have americans whine about how much lag they have to play with (*cough* as if europeans NEVER have lag playing with americans, but they don't care *cough*).

continental server > (american) host.

Servers would be too expensive, it would be easier to have a regional filter so Aussies could only play other Aussies, Europeans other Europeans, and Americans other Americans, if they chose (similar to language filter in current MM).

language filter is far from being the answer.
see, I am french. if I use that filter, I'll only play with other frenchies... which is about 1000 different persons per playlist. it'd take ages for me to find a game. or maybe i'd be matched with canadians, and the problem will not be solved.
for people living in the UK, who speak english, they end up playing with australians and americans (since you all share the same language).
servers might cost something, but don't we ALL pay 60$ for XBL? we europeans pay sixty EUROS, which makes 70$. plus the money for each halo game. plus money for each map packs. plus money for MSPs. M$ has way enough money to buy and maintain servers. if pedos can buy their own servers to upload their files, surely it doesn't cost this much.

I'm saying it would be similar to filtering for language, quickest match, or best connection (the current MM filters), only now you could filter regions (N. America, S. America, Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa).

unfortunately, even with the best connection filter, I usually end up with americans. I doubt I'm the only non american that have to bear with it ...
the second problem is that the host is ALWAYS american, whatever connection he has. even if he's the only american in the whole game, he'll host the game for sure, making everybody lag and ending up with 25 kills while the second best player has 7 at best.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

When Halo: Reach is released, servers would crash instantly due to the amount o people would be playing at once.

Its far too much of an investment, plus the fact we are in a time of financial crisis, that is a very high risk. Its a lot of money, with little to get back. They would also need to hire staff in other countries, buy servers, buy/rent places to keep the servers, software...etc. It isn't as cheap as one might think. Not to mention there would be a peak limit of how many people can play at any given time. And remember, we pay $5 dollars a month. Many of those costs are monthly. And that $5 doesn't even go to Bungie. It goes straight to Microsoft. And since they are split up now, Microsoft is no longer obligated to help.

Aaron Greenberg, Xbox group product manager. Speaking to Gamasutra, Greenberg noted that, out of the three major consoles, the Xbox 360 is the only one that has managed to outpace 2008 sales for the first six months of 2009. "Our console sales for the first half of the year actually grew 20 percent from January to June versus the same six months last year," said Greenberg. In addition, paid downloads on Xbox Live have seen a 73 percent jump from June 2008 through June 2009.
financial crisis is not a word for M$.

How about a region search instead? I'd probably be MORE effective then servers.

I'm saying it would be better for them to ADD a region filter in along with the other filters, so you could filter to only play other Europeans (you can't do it now).

Remember, Bungie would be running the servers. MS doesn't own Bungie anymore, only the Halo IP.
