Because it wasn't a bunch of scripted pre-rendered action sequences at E3? Or because the levels didn't live up in terms of scale?

That wasn't pre-rendered. It was live gameplay. Also, yes, because the levels didn't live up to scale.

would be awsome to do but realisticly it would be impossible to have thousands of enemies as the hardware could never handle it or the game engine but definetly worth bungie considering having large battles as you have said cos that would be epic as it would make you feel part of the battle again
