"Thoughts are the shadows of feelings; always darker, emptier, and simpler."

Okay, I got to thinking, and I just thought about something that is in pretty much every other FPS besides Halo 3; having the scope/sights controlled by the left trigger, rather than the right thumbstick. Although it may not seem like it's a serious issue, it could effect the way we play the game, aside from the difference in controls. If, hypothetically, we do end up using the left trigger to use the scope/sights, will we have to select grenades using the directional buttons or via an in-game menu like in Battlefield 2: Modern Combat or Frontlines: Fuel of War?

Your thoughts?

Halo games controls are fine how they are.

It's been this way since Halo: CE back in 2001.

These settings are far superior to using left to aim I think. That's one of the reason I admire Bungie so much. The controls were so cool like that... and they worked so much better!

I'm not suggesting that they change. I'm just curious as to whether Bungie will keep the Halo series' induviduality or if they'll conform to the majority of the FPS industry.

"Apparently people don't like the truth, but I do like it; I like it because it upsets a lot of people. If you show them enough times that their arguments are bull-blam!-, then maybe just once, one of them will say, 'Oh! Wait a minute I was wrong.' I live for that happening. Rare, I assure you."-Lemmy of Motorhead

Yes, I'm the guy who had the Flood admit to being furries.

No Bungie is going to keep these controls the same. As indicated the the controls diagram(look for it!)

Plus, not all the weapons with have a scope or even a sight, only some of them. Trying to aim with L with a weapon like the Needler would be hilarious.

If Bungie conformed to what others do they wouldn't be this successful. They're creative. They're their own company now. They'll do what they want because they know that it is because of their decisions, not others', that they are so successful.

So what if the saxophone is black?
it has better tone the the gold one.
damn straight i play Jazz.

many games use the same scheme as halo, look at splinter cell, or mass effect, or the jedi knight games, they all were click to zoom

Would you dance for it?

I think usually the 'Lean in Left Trigger' control scheme is used in games where most weapons kill in less than a few seconds.

In Halo I would love to see a more tactical control scheme (Reach Please!) but I think you would have to lower player health and probably raise the projectile velocity for alot of guns (needler/ Rocket) to make it work.

The beauty about the Halo controls is that you do not need to move your fingers around a lot in order to toggle different actions. Everything is right in place and ergonomic. It suits the fast paced action of the game. I do not have to stop, select something with the directional buttons, and then resume. The layout is very fluid.

Thanks for the input, mates. (I don't create threads very often.)

And ScOuRgE3, that's a good point. I have always found it a bit annoying having to hold down a button, select the gun I want, end up getting the one with the grenade launcher, and blowing myself up in a CQC encounter.

i think it will be alot easier because your right thumb has a slight less reaction time than you left fingerthat you use for the left trigger and also call of duty lovers will find it more easier to play the game.i would personally like to have this feature added

If I recall the controls are the same as always except the x button is the VISR instead of equipment. I'm cool with either controls. I'll adapt.

Halo is the majority of the FPS industry, it's the most popular xbox game of all time. It's more a question of whether games conform to halo, not the other way round.

Are you forgetting that the left trigger if used for something else already?

The grenades as an ordinary function rather than a seperate weapon is one of the things that makes Halo so different, so frenetic, and so badass.

Ninjabag the tea-pirates!

I don't want to join your group.

As you don't shoot from the hip when not in zoom it doesn't matter and is more appropriate on the right thumbstick.

"The next time you see me, I'll be stabbing you to death! Okay?"

I've never had a problem addapting to different button layouts and controls for video games, so I can't complain about how one is set up. However, if you do want to use the left trigger to zoom, don't they have a button layot you could change to so the controls would work that way? I used to use Halo's default controls but I've switched over to Bumper Jumper cause it makes some things easier for me.

get out of here stalker

They have that button layout in Killzone. Except I don't think the Playstation controller works with it.

  • 07.18.2009 1:08 PM PDT

why are you looking at this?

the controls are basically the same

  • 07.18.2009 1:12 PM PDT

Hopefully not. halo's control scheme has remained fun and amazingly fresh despite being more or less eight years old. Anyway, it wouldn't really fit for visor-equipped soldiers to aim down the sights of a non-scoped weapon, as their HUD gives them a target reticule displaying exactly where the weapon is aiming. Of course they'd still need to brace it against the shoulder, but actually aiming down the sights wouldn't be needed. That's why the Assault Rifle doesn't have iron sights.
