Subject: Do you Think : 2ed Mythic Map Pack Have Silent SMG and Pistol

My elite name is Exth 'Masuree, and I am a ship master.
Favorite quotes:

They did add in the snow hornet, which took away missiles. But I'm not sure if that's the same as changing ROF or scopes. But you can still hope.

Just curious, where did you hear that the Maps will be read off the ODST CD?
I thought we were going to be given a special code, like when you bought a Copy of Halo Wars.

If I'm not mistaken, the maps will be on the ODST multiplayer disc itself.

I think that it's possible to put them into the game, but it's unlikely. The weapons were designed for single-player, not multiplayer. The Automag and Silenced SMG sound extremely powerful for any multiplayer map. Unless they make it better than the Halo 2 version, the Brute Plasma Rifle just sounds pointless to have in MP.

In the end, they might add them to the second half of the Mythic Map Pack, but I highly doubt it.

*I edited in the b-/b*

This statement just re states my orginal arguement.

It sounds good on paper, but it won't work in gameplay
I was refering to Multiplayer by gameplay, sorry if that was to big a strech.
i realize this is in no way a response to anything i said, but i'll still say this:

it wouldn't work in MATCHMAKING. that much is true.

but in FORGE, or CUSTOMS? yeah. why? it would be used for just fun. there would be no competitive use for it, and the only people using it would be the people that wanted to.

I understand that, but just as certain vecihles (ie: AA Wraith)can't be added to forge, certain weapons can't be ethier. More or less Bungie is trying to avoid any possible glitchs from arising, which is one reason they blocked the Weapon Down Trick in Live. Also Modding is the major concern, one skilled modder, can crack Halo and move that file around, Most modders can't even imagine how to do it, but their is a select few who do.
are you trying to say Bungie can't add the AA Wraith into Forge if they want to?

because they CAN.

all it is is a Wraith with a new skin and a new weapon. they have a lot of examples of this.

Proof:
Warthog and Gauss Warthog
Avalanche Hornet and Regular Hornet
ANY Human Avalanche Vehicle and ANY Human Vehicle (although this only follows the skin part)

so yeah, it CAN be added to Forge. the only reason why it isn't is because it's WAY too overpowered.

Dues absconditus

Never said they can't. I'm saying they don't because the same reason you said.
It is too overpowered.
Now isn't the silenced SMG and Auto Mag to overpowered? But its for fun? So why can't the AA Wraith be added for fun as well?

perhaps because not that many people have wanted it?

or perhaps that since you can't drive it in Campaign (well, you CAN, but it requires either a mod or VERY good timing), so not that many people have thought about it.

either way, it's really up to Bungie.

EDIT: i forgot to say that sure, the SMG and Magnum are overpowered... compared to the regular ones.

but if the regular SMG and Magnum weren't in the game, the new SMG and Magnum would just be two weapons that everyone uses.

I'll agree with you its Up to Bungie and end this war, let someone else take my steed if they want, I'm off to some Call of Duty since Halo 3 is down for now.

You can not add a Weapon File onto Halo 2 or 3 on the Xbox. Unless your Xbox is Offline and connected to a PC, but then it has no real purpose.

That is true... for modders. Bungie are not modders. They don't have to deal with injecting assets, adding chunks and all those things, because they COMPILE their maps from scratch. They wouldn't be "adding" a new weapon to an "existing" map, they would simply compile this new weapon with the map itself. Modders don't have the compiling software that they use for Halo 2 or Halo 3 maps, so that's why modders can't easily inject new weapons into a map.

Now I've read this whole thread, and the ignorance is killing me. They can EASILY allow the new weapons to be used on the new maps. All of a map's assets are built directly into the map. They don't come from an external source on the disc or anything like that; they are INSIDE the map file itself. An SMG, its projectile, its firing effect, its first person animation, that is ALL inside the map file.

Example:
All Bungie would have to do to have the silenced SMG included in Heretic (for FORGE ONLY) is to copy the bone animations from the ODST arms and body to the Spartan model (though I guess they would have to make new animations for the Elite - this would take a little work), then they would place the modified silenced SMG asset into the Heretic compile directory. Now when they compile the map, the silenced SMG will compile with the rest of the map's assets like the BSP. Voila! The silenced SMG is now available in Heretic.

Again though, FORGE/CUSTOMS ONLY. This cannot be implemented into matchmaking. This is due to balance reasons and also for stats reasons. The mainmenu.map only has information for the original weapons, so your "tool of destruction" could not be the silenced SMG or Brute Plasma Rifle because there is no information in the mainmenu.map on the disc for those weapons. That's why the 7-wood on the stats page is regarded as a Gravity Hammer. There is no information in mainmenu.map for the 7-wood, but its very similar in functionality to the Gravity Hammer, so it was set to be recognized as such. Now this would be fine for Forge and Customs (the silenced SMG could be regarded as a normal SMG, a Brute plasma rifle regarded as a normal plasma rifle, etc.) but NOT for matchmaking, unless it was in like... Action Sack lol.

Wielding a double-bladed chainsaw, wearing a potato sack on your head and spinning around mindlessly is amiably quick at getting anything done

They could just make the new weapons appear on the mythic map pack #2 only. Since these maps WILL ONLY APPEAR on the ODST disc 2 and won't be downloadable on the marketplace, they won't have to worry about normal H3 disc users suffering a conflict should the weapons appear for them...because they won't have access to the maps outside the ODST DISC 2.

So yeah...I think they could do it. Plus the fact that they're not ever releasing the maps on the marketplace and are only available on the ODST disc 2 makes me think they are up to something special...

No I don't think so....although it would be amazingly awesome....
