Last night I believe my computer was hacked into. All of a sudden I was flooded with pop-ups, telling me files on my computer were being corrupted. It started responding EXTREMELY slow.

Then all of a sudden I get a pop up telling me that certain files or folders that windows needed to run have been replaced by incompatible files or some damm -blam!- like that.
It told me to insert my XP cd and that I needed to re-install windows and some other crap.
from there I powered my computer of right away, but as I did a whole bucnh of windows and programs poped up that I had no idea what there function was, or why they were opening like that by themselves. So I powered off anyway.

No that I have got back on I can still use windows and get online and everything, but certain programs and software will not respons. i.e. Windows media player will not funciton anymore, it tells me some crap about it being corrupted or something.

Does this sound like my computer was hacked?? How could it have just out of no where started doing all that stuff if it wasnt being hacked? Its never had any probs before!

how can I protect my computer from these scum?, Im not very cluey on computers and the like. How can I know if I was hacked, and how can I know WHEN im being hacked? what can I do to make sure this sort of thing doesnt happen again?

Thanks.

Do you have any enemies? To me this sounds more like a virus or malware. I know a lot of hackers myself, this one guy cracked the network security at Vassar College in minutes.

Sounds like you got a nasty virus on your hands. It's impossible for a hacker to hack into my computer, my virus protection McAfee couldn't even get into my computer to upgrade the firewall.

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

Haven't seen you in a while, mithrandir1.

No matter what kind of software you have the fact is that you can be hacked... but to stop most average hacker just norton or something with a firewall should do just fine.... another thing if you have cable or dls or anyother internet that is always on unplug the cable from the modem whenever you are not using the internet that will help.

Sounds like you got a 'weak' version of the Sasser Virus. Make sure you have Anti-Virus protection and a Firewall.
