I was just watching the footage where an ODST sets the charges and blows up the bridge. That made me think of swimming. The main reason I dont think you will be able to swim is that I didn't see anything on the other side of the bridge to swim to and even if there was, there would probably be an alternat way.[Edited on 07.18.2009 1:18 PM PDT]
There's more to living than just being alive.

That would be pretty cool, but highly unnecessary. Besides, if you want to be realistic, the ODSTs' gear would weigh them down.
Last time I remember watching the cutscene with the bridge, Dare wasn't even there, I think you mean Romeo (sorry their names escape me). I wouldn't bet there will be swimming, since you are walking around a giant city with hardly any rivers in sight.
I said Dare by accident.

Haters are going to hate. Praisers are going to praise. The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.
They probably designed the game so that you dont encounter any water areas that are deep enough to cover the player. Or you just die, instantly.
