Sierra 259 in most likely a Spartan-III. A Spartan-III is a spartan than has the same training, weaker armor (no shields), stealthed, above top secret. The training of spartan-III'sstarted about 15-20 years before Reach so it is possible that that is who they are, though there is no mention in Halo: Ghosts of Onyx about them being in oporations on Reach. Either that or they are groundforces being overrun, but more likely pelicans or Longswords(equivelent to fighter jets that can fight in space). I'm sorry if this post is bad, you know brothers and how they rush you.

Spartan 259

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

This has been thought of before. Spartan-III's were in companies. They would have thier company letter in front of thier number.

Like for instance, if the Spartan were from Gamma company, it would use the callsign Sierra G-259.

I'm thinking a Spartan-II class 2 is more likely now then ever.

pokey there were 150 spartan II candidates so impossible right?
75 went through augmentation
and only 33 made it through augmentation unscathed so no.

im probably wrong though

  • 07.18.2009 9:25 PM PDT

sierra 259 says " we have spartans on the ground sir."

so i think its just a pilot of a transport

also spartans were super soldiers so they wouldn't have them as pilots
it'd just be a waste of training

  • 07.18.2009 9:29 PM PDT

however there were 330 spartan III candidates

so if bungie is being non-canon and not including company letter it could be spartan III

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

Can't be a Spartan III. Alpha company was entirely wiped out, the survivors of Beta were with Kurt on Onyx, and the the time of the Battle of Reach, Gamma company was still in training. Plus, the tags for Spartan IIIs always start with the first letter of their company (B292).

Most likely, these are Spartan IIs

259 actually says "You've got Spartans on the ground, sir. We're not going anywhere." This heavily suggests this is a Spartan II

See my last post. Plus, Bungie is always canon in it's stories and game.

I had the idea of S-III's long ago. Only, Gamma company was the only surviving company, and they were on Onyx at the time of Reach. The majority of Gamma company left Onyx weeks after the first battle of Reach though. So, likely Gamma company wasn't there.

But CPO Mendez was brought to work on a different Spartan program, although this was probably the S-III program, though there is a chance that there was another S-II project.

There was supposed to be a second Spartan II program, but it was supposedly shut down to due to lack of funds. ilovebees brought the second class of spartans in, but the official status of this second class of Spartans is debatable.

Thanks all for commenting, but I have a slight question, in Halo 3 i was confused was Sierra 117 Masterchief 117? a spaceship? Also even if a second S-II program was created and with the enhancements to the augmentational procedure and a increased survival rate S-II's would number around 70-100 not 259, and Masterchief's comrade/friend Spartan-II Linda *i do not know her number* was like 50 or something give or take 10, and as said above there were 150 original canidates so a thought might be they just continued the numbers on from 150 and guessing 150-200 S-*II.5* were added a guess may be Initiate #259, like John (MC) 117 was a number that was left over; WE SHALL SEE AT THE NEXT E3!!!!!!! *no ryming pun intended*.

He is not a Spartan-III. Alpha company was wiped out, the only two survivors from Beta team were not numbered -259 or -320, and Gamma Company didn't leave Onyx until around October 23, whereas Reach fell on August 30.

I'VE GOT IT! Right after the first explosion in the video you hear a voice " We're coming in hot, we just lost our bird." The Pelecin *Probably spelled wrong* in Halo: First Strike that was carrying around 15-20, I'm guessing, Spartan-II's started it's fall in the very upper atmosphere after losing its Longsword escorts. The Spartans jumped out and many made the fall *after it went down to about 5 - 10 miles altitude*. So Sierra 259 Either was the designated name of the Pelecin before it crashed, Spartan's identifying they were alive from the crashed ship, or the name of the squad for that mission. I TAKE BACK ALL SPARTAN-III IDEAS!

OMG cheehwawa an informative post without any flaming or just trying to be a dick.

-Starts slow clap-

Anyway back ontopic. The answer is Spartan 2 class 2. I hope we get some good story behind it.

Red Team's Pelican was Bravo-001, so it would be a member of Red Team (most likely splinter team beta).

Voilà!In view,a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity,is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.

on spot, he is one of the few who have been suggusting the second class of Spartan II while some people continue to have outrageous claims denoting that Seirra 259 and Seirra 320 are not Spartans
