Subject: Xbox Live! Webcam & Halo 2 Discussion

While browsing for Xbox 'peripherals', I came across this. It's the soon to be released Xbox Webcam for use with Live. (It was also demonstrated on at E3 2004, just before the Halo 2 Multiplayer demo by Joe Staten)
* Picture 1
* Picture 2
* Picture 3
* Picture 4 (shows it set-up with Xbox and head-set)

I'm wondering if the Webcam will be compatible in any way with Halo 2? e.g. Will we be able to see each other (teamates and/or enemies) or if you'll be able to have a photo of yourself above your player/character. Now I know that people might abuse this (using obscene pictures etc) but the host has the power to boot people off, so there shouldn't be a big problem.
What do all you people think of this? Cool idea? Please post and discuss. I would personally love this option in Halo 2!!

Perhaps have a photo for an emblem? That would be good so long as you can report people for obscene pictures like you said

I dunno, seems like a good way to put porno on Xbox Live, I for one dont think its a very good idea. Maybe if you used it with just like friends or had an option that you could only see pictures or videos sent to you from people on your friends list.

It might be cool to have a live picture of you showing and be able to talk before the game starts.

After reading this I was reminded of the Bungie Weekly Update that said (I'm paraphrasing quite a bit here) that with halo 2 they're aiming to create the same feeling of sitting on a couch with your buddies and playing system link or split screen. What better way to do that then to make it so you can see the people you're beating over live. Bungie clearly has some dark little secret and I really wouldn't be surprized if this had something to do with it.

Nice find either way.

I quite like the idea. it'd be all futuritically so if a teammate talks to you their picture comes up in a small section on your screen.
It'd be cool if the next steel battalion (if there is one) uses a feature like this but i'd use it. nice find Jay. I knew of the webcam but never thought of using it for halo 2

Good Idea. If 'obscene material' was put on there though, surely a quick chat to the Game's Host would do the trick? (he could boot them off)

Thanks for the positive comments people.

My rooms absurdly messy with all the junk I cannot seem to throw out..... I don't think I'd get this device for that reason alone....

Besides, that picture of yourself talking would probably obstruct your view on the game, and thus might not be a good idea.....

Though, we might beable to create hand drawn icons for use as well =D

Damn imagine, your all like "stunner, Give me an uplink of what you seeing, i need to know where that sniper is!" and/or youd be able to see what he see's, for tactical reasons. But even if you can only see what hes doing, that still be awesome. Body language means alot. But im sure there would bee time where you wouldn't want to see people's ugly mugs. Either way, simply awesome.

True, just a little bit though.

I personally think this would be amazing on Multiplayer Live, what do you all think?

The whole camera thing would be especially sweet if the image of the person who just killed you popped up for a brief time (maybe during you're respawn time). Then you could mock the person you just capped in the back of the head. I can only imagine some of the 'I just punked you' dances that would spring up all over xbox live...

eh it could be a great idea but i dont think it would be because where are they going to place it on your screen? How much space is it going to take up? being able to talk is enough for me. I only think its going to be used for chatting in the Dashboard and stuff that isnt in game.

Okay, fair enough. But what if it could minimised like a PC window?

Unless its in the game lobby you all seem to be foregetting a BIG factor. LAG. Video chat kills your bandwidth, espepcially the upload. I have video chat right now using iChat on a mac with an iSight camera. Wonderful technology, but don't play anyonline games while that thing is active. Now static images would be fine, but realtime would make massive lag in online games unless its just the loby (even then you couldn't have it work for all 16 players, maybe 4).

That would be tight, showing teammates tactically data and set up ambushes... Being a scout with a sniper rifle and all, tactics in video games would actually improve....
