Subject: Do you think you should go through the Spartan test as a child?

We go head first into hell sir!

Well how about it bwing an optional part of the game on a sort of extras menu like there having in ODST. Sort of like a tutorial like Abes 2nd Account said but making it a little bit more for the people playing it, so like a few minutes of tutorial then a bit playing as a teenager doing the tests.

shhh...

It would be like Republic Commando.

  • 07.22.2009 12:56 PM PDT

This idea would be pretty cool.

  • 07.22.2009 12:58 PM PDT

Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net

YES!

I was perfect for the spartan training program...athletic, smart, tall,...oh wait, your talking about in game.

Uh, wouldn't be a selling point either way for me.

It would make for a nice flashback, or a good beginning to the game. I want to get in a bucket with my friends a race to win during the war games.

  • 07.22.2009 1:34 PM PDT

If you want to see the MC die, play Legendary. If you want to see MC finish the fight, play Halo 3. If you want to see MC finish the fight by dieing, why did you waste six years when you could have done it yourself right now?

NO! I'm too serious to be a kid! Lol, yeah. Good idea.

some people would learn a lot more about halo

  • 07.22.2009 2:17 PM PDT

yeah that would be cool but only as the tutorial mission.

Fact 2: European guys are hotter

I guess I can understand if you don't want to make out with guys in the US if they're so ugly, you should just say so though.

That would be too much like Fable in my opinion.

Many, many games have tutorials at the beginning.

  • 07.22.2009 2:53 PM PDT

i like this idea but not as a tutorial, i'd rather have it as a flashback at a traumatic moment

throw in some black and white or other effects while you're there

Yeah, that would be cool. Like the tutorial part of the game.
I don't see how a tutorial as a 6yr old child in rags would translate over to the actual gameplay of the game as a 7ft tall armor-clad Super Soldier.

  • 07.22.2009 4:18 PM PDT

Extras maybe. I think that would be better.

  • 07.24.2009 7:05 AM PDT

Only if they did it the Fallout 3 way, brief moments as a child.

Id love a halo rpg.. Would be awesome

  • 07.24.2009 10:36 AM PDT

well why not ?

because then you could see masterchiefs real face if he was a child because he wouldnt be wareing his mark IV amour

but it is a good idea if the theater mode was offline for that level

yea that makes sense if it was just in flashbacks... it would kind of be cool

They could have occasional flashbacks like in ODST, showing their training and augmentation.

This is what I was thinking; instead of a long interactive cutscene, more like 2 or 3 events, i.e. the obstacle course, maybe the wilderness capture-the-flag, and the Mark IV test.

  • 07.24.2009 11:08 AM PDT

We go head first into hell sir!

How about you never see master chief or whenever you do see him, he's always in shadows or he's trying on a helmet. Your idea is good though, don't have theater for that level.

  • 07.25.2009 9:12 AM PDT

No, no and once more no! Haven't game developers learned anything from games such as fable II. The bit where you are a child is always the worst bit of a game, because for all their undeniable charm children are:
A)Weak
B)Inexperience
C)Slow
D)Bad to play in a video game

However I do think this idea has some merit

If there's a "tutorial" level in Reach, I think the level should be about when your Spartan first gets his Mark V armour on Reach, and then you/he have to run a small obstacle course, not to dissimilar from when the Chief first got his Mark V in the Fall of Reach (but maybe no real human opponents, maybe a weak auto turret which you have to destroy).

The level should just be a few minutes long, and at the end of the obstacle course you could choose to run the obstacle course again, if it didn't feel as if you got the hang of the controls the first time, or exit the tutorial and continue to the next level.

Your friendly and eccentric Sangheili forum-poster. :)

The obstacle course John and his team needed to go through would be a good tutorial.

Zane

yeah i think we should because we would see a spartan test as a child and it would be a great add-on.

It sure would make a great tutorial level!

  • 07.26.2009 7:24 PM PDT

As long as they find a way to make it intresting and not drag it out it could be a cool intro to the game. Also they would have to pull off a wilson and alway find a way to hide the MCs face
