Subject: Tired of lies

Link or it didn't happen.

Throughout these forums i have seen many ppl say that ODST has the same engine as H3...
LIES!!!!! me being a C++ know that you can't reuse an engine like H3s for a game like ODST. for example an engine is what creates basic physics such as gravity, push force, and destruction.
if you go around saying they are they same game you deserve to be shot for not understanding how much time and dedication it takes to make a game of this proportion with so many changes from the original genre. Altering the engine to be ODST's engine would probably take twice as much time as just making a new engine from scratch instead of having to change millions of variables to custom tailor ODST. so if any else goes out saying that ODST is the same thing as H3 you deserve to be shot.

"You must be mistaken, Reclaimer. I've met your makers, and they don't even know your name..."

For a master of coding you seem woefully misguided to the fact that Bungie themselves have stated ODST uses Halo 3's engine.

I'm going to trust Bungie more than you.
And they said it was the same engine.

  • 07.19.2009 2:21 PM PDT

Link or it didn't happen.

then they wasted they're time.

M.A.W

your a retard lol the one of the bungie employees already said it was the same engine as halo3 man...jeeze i think you deserve to be shot for having such a fail!

Mythical Group

There is no greater catharsis than arguing on the Flood.

Altering it will not take twice as much time. Utilizing it to create environments is what took them the longest. The changes to the majority of the engine itself weren't that large. The physics is basically the same, the graphics are a little better, and the basic game interface hasn't changed much except a map and VISR.

Bungie will decide on what to waste time on, but I'm perfectly happy with the result as long as I get to kill things in the end.

then they wasted they're time.

Considering code can be copy/pasted, I don't see how they took that long.

i do not accept recruitment messages

all they did was use the same engine just make new entities and models and more scripting

The fight has been complete.... now get the cookies!

While we certainly share your enthusiasm for the return, we here at the Bungie.net community are mostly made up of snarky asses and jerks who will ridicule you for making a thread about something revealed months ago. We regret that your innocent intentions will almost certainly be replied with anger and sarcasm, and politely invite you to don your Flame-suit, because you just did the internet equivalent of jumping up the Construct lifts.

Forget this spaz just let this thread die as long as we know they used the same engine for this game then that is good for us, we dont need to waste our time proving this to someone who doesnt want to believe.

Actually I am also a C++ expert and it is sbolutely possible to reuse a game engine like this, they are using the halo3 engine but they are just making a few minor tweaks to help flesh out the odst mombassa theme

and actually a game engine is not just basic physics. but a low level foundation for making the game on top of. Engines usually have thease components

Graphics
Audio
Physics
Content Processing ( models/textures/audio effects/shaders ) all of the game content

and on top of the engine they could any thing they wanted to

classes
data structures
interfaces

COD4's engine was used for Quantum of Solace

A source has said the GTA5 will be using the GTA4 engine

I was in 5th grade. I popped in the Halo CE disc into the massive, clunky first generation Microsoft Xbox, and wrapped my small hands around the controller that was almost too big for me. Little did I know what I was getting into.

10+ years later, I still look up to my childhood hero, Master Chief, while everyone talks about He Man and Spongebob haha

Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and say Bungie knows more about it than you do, it's the same engine.

I wish I was still legendary.

It's confirmed to be the same engine.

I mean, come on. Which would take longer: tweaking the lighting settings and globals of a game (which takes less then 20 minutes with Halo 1), or building an entire godamn engine?

  • 07.19.2009 3:26 PM PDT

Dude, shut up, stop complaining about other people, you can't change them. And no one deserves to be shot, don't type stuff like that, it's horrible.

When a new game comes out i buy it if i think it's cool, i don't question it or complain, i'll do that after the game comes out, so be quiet in the meantime.

  • 07.19.2009 3:30 PM PDT

About me: I am a vicious wolf of a man.

But really am sweet at heart. =)

The engine wasn't "altered" The engine was just capable of much more than what was in Halo 3 and they are using it to its full potential

  • 07.19.2009 3:53 PM PDT

Check out the group, Planet Reach and talk about Bungie's next game without the annoyance of the public forum. Oh and it's nice there too.

You thought you had lag, it took Jesus 3 days to re-spawn.

I love how this guy knows more than the creators of the engine. It really is hilarious.
