I have to agree with tartarus i dont think they will ever ever ever merge these two games together. Plus a game designer or a poet or anyone else that makes something always has similiar things in it. They have even said that they will never put two together.

Could it be possible that 343GS could do that teleporter thing to other planets. I think it is possible, because we know that the Halos are linked together some how because if one goes off they all do.

I agree, you beat me to it. Another possibility: there is another sort of monitor something thingy just like 343 GS, but it didn't do anything bad like we think GS did, it's just a monitor/maintinance AI or something, when it sees E., it freaks since that would be a breach of security to have a forign AI in the system, goes wild, tries to take it over, but it doesn't work. The end product is the new E.

The reason I say this is that E appears to:

1) Be a 'dumb' AI
2)To have gone mad

Supposedly, the only reason smart AI's can't handle loads of data is that they eventually have too many logic connections in them, so they take up memory space and processor speed managing the connections, and eventually this becomes fatal because they aern't managing core functions. This is taken from 'Fall of Reach'.

So the reason 'dumb' AI's don't have a problem is that they have limits on connections and manage their data a bit better, but this limits creativity, hence needing codebreaking equiptment.

Right... so my point in all this is that the AI COULDN'T go mad from an overly large amount of data, because it has limits placed on it since it's a 'dumb' AI, so it can't have gone insane from overload, so that's why I think it was taken over.

Good points, all.

To be honest, Tartarus, I've only read a few little things here and there, but if someone already pointed this out, then I'm sorry I tried to take credit...

Your theory seems more plausible from the looks of it, I think.

And yeah J_A_C_K_A_S_S, you're probably right.

Right... so my point in all this is that the AI COULDN'T go mad from an overly large amount of data, because it has limits placed on it since it's a 'dumb' AI, so it can't have gone insane from overload, so that's why I think it was taken over.

You are almost right. Smart AIs are not able to go rampant becasue of their freedom and creativity they are kind of always in a state of rampancy.

Dumb AIs are the ones that can go rampant. They have preconsctructed limits on their functions but not on their size. They keep dumb AIs on small networks because rampancy takes large planet size networks. The extra data would not cause rampancy, but a forerunner network would give him enough room to go rampant.

Does anyone know who these Leonidas or Thesues people are?

I dont know if anybody pointed this out(there is NO way i am reading through 20 pages) but Theseus is a king in "A knights tale", no not the movie(well, it started the movie), but the tale in Geoffrey Chaucer's "Canterbury Tale's"

..yeah

Ok, I have read over alot of your posts on this and I have went over the transmissions.
I have found one thing in "It's A Cold Day Here In Hell......" Ekindu finishes this sentence with ".......but the sun is shining, however dimly. On my half of it, anyway." Maybe this is showing that there is more than one AI. I also notice that in this jumbled up message that Ekindu is constantly changing emotions and/or personality's. Ekindu would be optimistic in one sentence, or pesimistic in another. I would say Ekindu sounded even angry at times. Also, the sentence's didnt even connect with one or the others' subject.Another thing is the names Ekindu metioned "Igigi" and "Anunnaki". I think they are names by the way they are capitilized. Could they be "Cov" names, or "Forerunner" names. They might be places or ships, I dont know. I am also wondering about the thing before the Signature "TTYL" is it some sort of writing thing like A.S.A.P. or P.S. or is it a secret message of somekind. If you got answers to these Q's then let me know! this is a really good Subject!

It would have been a wise idea for you to read though the full 20 pages... this topic is very complex and has many levels...

No one had mentioned that Theseus was a king in A Knight's Tale, but Theseus from the ancient greek legend (Theseus and the Minotaur) is much more relevant...

In the terminal "Shore Left" Enkidu mention that the Covenent "have excavated a large circular portion of the day-side glacier". I think that "day-side" would suggest that only one side of the planet faces the primary sun (I think there is a name for that type of orbit, but I can't remember). The sun is probably shining dimly because there are further away from the sun... it is a "frozen" planet.

I also notice that in this jumbled up message that Ekindu is constantly changing emotions and/or personality's. Ekindu would be optimistic in one sentence, or pesimistic in another. I would say Ekindu sounded even angry at times. Also, the sentence's didnt even connect with one or the others' subject.

I assume that you are talking about "Whether Forecast"? Personally I got the immpression that it was lacking in emotion, but that's just me...

Another thing is the names Ekindu metioned "Igigi" and "Anunnaki". I think they are names by the way they are capitilized. Could they be "Cov" names, or "Forerunner" names. They might be places or ships, I dont know.

They have been identified as "groups of gods" from the time of the Epic of Gilgamesh. There is still some debate as to who is who...

I am also wondering about the thing before the Signature "TTYL" is it some sort of writing thing like A.S.A.P. or P.S. or is it a secret message of somekind.

I was wondering about this also... anyone? (I thought something along the lines of "thinking of you" etc...) EDIT: thank J_A_C_K_A_S_S - I'd forgotten that one...

If you got answers to these Q's then let me know! this is a really good Subject!

Hope that helped... and yes it is a good subject....

EDIT: J_A_C_K_A_S_S is right you should read the rest of the posts though...

That is good advice RAL. And you are wrong, read it all. It will not make any sense if you dont.

Oh and here is a list i made to help me with the dates and the basics of what is happening.

List of terminals, date, and basic explanation.

Orders 8:10 8-18-2552
Enkidu is Himself these are orders that covie ship is inbound and battle starting

Packing 9:24 8-18-2552
Enkidu is still ok he is packing himself down and they are beginning the slingshot

Shore 13:13 8-18-2552
Enkidu still ok he is wishing the best to the JD they are landing on Frigid

Whether 21:12 8-21-2552
Enkidu sounds good to go he is going to be put into the RF network in the forerunner building

Introduction 23:22 8-21-2552
Poem sounds like E. has changed and the new E. is now with us and he is letting us know who he is.

Past 4:42 8-24-2552
E. is sending a rewrite of the Enkidu story not totally sure what this really means

Reading other email 4:03 8-25-2552
Enkidu stops JD from reading the captains email which are the original orders for the mission

Hell 6:06 8-27-2552
E. is here and he is telling about his new home.

Main terminal date 17:43 8-28-2552
Someone is looking up all of these messages on this date.

Ok now for bed.

Thank you all for the help on understanding all of this! I just spent over 5-6 hours reading over this! its 3:30 AM and I am finished. I conclude that Enkidu is a AI was takin over by a COV AI thats how the COV figured out where earth was. thats just what I think let me know if you have different theories then this very vague one. im going to bed.

ok a quick run through of interesting points in "How I Spent Your Summer Vacation".

LOW-BATT : this is the latest indication of an increasing power shortage.

Lifeboat Bay C Terminal : JD seems to be heading to Frigid.

UT 17:38:46 09.07.2552 : this is the newest date we have seen (newer than the old main screen)

Summary of the transmission:

[ANONYMOUS] (I think it's Enkidu) starts by talking about how the sun never sets on Frigid - this confirms the theory that only one side of the planet faces the sun.

"What a pretty trail you left in the sky. Just like a falling star." : JD in the Lifeboat

the next two paragraphs deal with JD going to Frigid and being stuck there with Enkidu (includes some interesting friend or foe statements)

Then JD's "friends" return, which turns out to be the CCS SWORD OF JUSTICE - the covies the send this message "Your presence is a stain upon the honor of the gods. Their honor shall be cleansed".

"Your presence is a stain upon the honor of the gods. Their honor shall be cleansed."
frigid seems to be a planet of great religious significance with the covies mining the gaciers and searching for something that is very sacred and they are not very happy about the lebanons crew staying there

just one question was this before, during or after Halo?

Still not feeling any better, so this one is going to be short I think.

Enkidu still feels that JD is his friend. I interperate the tone of this to be similar to an attitude I often take myself. When the going gets tough for somebody, joke with them. Make them relax a little bit, especially when it isn't going to get any better. After all, until the "friends" arrive, they're going to be there for a while.

"So here you are. Stuck with me. Nowhere else to go. Nothing else to do. New to the neighbourhood and don't know your way around. No friends here, either, so you're trying to crash at my new place. How fun. Shall we play a game, old friend? How about a nice game of... "

Please forgive me, but the last line appears to me to be a play on the line "How about a nice game of chess?" from Wargames. Does that particularly mean anything? Probably not, but you know how Bungie is with odd quotes.

The Lebanon is still around, but it's probably in atrocious condition. I don't think that anybody is still on it, though. Of course, the best chance that JD has against the Covies is to bunker down with Enkidu, his old friend, and fortify himself as best he can. They won't glass the planet, because it's a holy place to them, but they will try and take it.

JD, I hope you've got a lot of ammo, my friend, because expect at least a thousand to one on this.

WOPR appears on there. Now if memory serves me right that was the computer in the film "Wargames"... could be wrong.

EDIT: In response to Fludblud

I suggest you read ALL the posts...

but to answer your questions:

Frigid does have religious significance to the Covenant - there is a Forerunner Structure at the site of the excavation. This is likely to contain Forerunner Artifacts which are extreamely important to the Covenant. Enkidu mentions that the previous owner didn't "clean out their cupboards very well".

It's my belief that the Lebanon's crew apart from JD are dead - Enkidu mentions that JD has no friends on Frigid.

It started out before Halo, but the latest terminal is 09.07.2552 - I believe Halo starts on the 08.30.2552 (I will have to double check that).

Maybe it´s a somekind of a saga about the Master Chief...
"when demons rode in the sky" it could be a somekind a nuclear/intergalactic war (ballistic missiles fly u know)
and if master chief is plessed (oh my god i have read too much mythologig stuff)

Another term in the meta names was "aerobraking" after having a look about on the net i found out this has something to do with how Odyssey came to orbit Mars.
Info here.
Whether this is any use i don't know; links between Homers' "Odyssey" and Greek mythology are obvious, and whether Mars being the roman god of war has any bearing on the situation?

No. I think there WERE others on the planet, how else would E get all the code breaking equipment? They were probably eliminated by the Covenant since we have this small little tidbit that's obvious:

[ . CCS SWORD OF JUSTICE]
[ o UNSC LEBANON]
[Route Code: MNNT > XCV - UNSC > ALLCH]
[Source: Undetermined (trans)]

Your presence is a stain upon the honor of the gods. Their honor shall be cleansed.

WOW, it took me a while to get through all of the posts on this thread but i finally did it.
I don't think we should assume that Enkidu is a "dumb" A.I. I say this because he is a
shipboard A.I. for the Lebanon which is on a special ONI mission(SENTRYWALK), just
like Cortana was the shipboard A.I. for the PoA on a special ONI mission(not sure of the name for that one). So it stands to reason that if a ship is on an ONI op they would have a
"smart" A.I. at the helm. Just because he isn't a codebreaker doesn't make him "dumb".
If i remember correctly the mission that Cortana was created for required her to be a codebreaker so she was given high tech codebreaking programs.
Also, about rampancy, I believe Hedwig posted that it is possible that "smart" A.I. cannot
go rampant. That is an interesting idea but probably not true. It seems more probable that only "smart" A.I. can go rampant. "Dumb" A.I. only seem to have menial tasks and are probably governed strictly by their programming whereas a "smart" A.I. seems to have a lot more control over its own programming. I think Hedwig is correct however, in the case of Cortana, because she was created without "behavioral inhibitors" which means she thinks completely for herself and does only what she chooses to do. I believe the rules for rampancy, which were defined in the Marathon series, required a very large computer system(i think planetary was the word used) and some kind of behavioral inhibitor or thought control programming to be erased or deleted from the A.I. That's why I don't believe Cortana
can go rampant because she never had behavioral inhibitors to begin with so can not feel the
"rush" or freedom from them being deleted.

EDIT: In response to AbolitionMan

I know there were crew on Frigid... I'm saying it's my opinion that they are no longer alive - now.

EDIT: when we start talking about "smart" and "dumb" AI constructs, it's hard to define how smart or dumb an AI is. There are probably many levels of AI intellegence... maybe on a scale of 1 to 10, Cortana is a 10 and Enkidu is an 8... we can't really tell.
