Am I the only one who isn't missing the sarcasim? Remember in Halo, when they find the dead elite? "Friend of yours?" "No. We just met..." When I'm playing a game, and the opponents show up, I normally turn to another player and go "Our friends are back." The other player is still my friend, but the opponents and us are about to play a nice, friendly game of "kill each other dead." It's a figure of speech.
I still stand by my thought that he hasn't become the enemy. He just gained a sense of humor. Also, I re-read Blast From the Past, and now that I think about it, we may be reading TOO much into it. It's starting to sound to me like it may be along the following lines:
"I hate people who don't listen. I told the human's not to go here and do this after I had my consciousness expanded, but did they listen? Nooooooooooo. Now they're dead. Gal dangit. I actually feel kind of bad for them."
But why smile at the end? Well, I have theories for that as well, but my headache is still haunting me, and I need to lay down. Sheesh. I swear, this mystery is bad for my health. ;)
