This has almost certainly been said, but in my opinion, The crew of the Lebanon have done battle with a Covenant ship called The Sword of Justice, both ships have been abandoned and the lifeboats have landed on an ice planet called Frigid. There is an underground building there that has been excavated by the Covenant. This is almost certainly a forerunner building, as inside there are "Holy Artifacts." So far, the Lebanon's crew landed there and had to use Enkidu (Lebanon's Ship AI) to open some doors and eventually implanted him inside the system, from there he has been corrupted, by i think 343 GS I also want to add, the Forerunner might have implanted their minds into robots in a Total annihilation type thing, which in my opinion makes 343 an actualy Forerunner. This would also explain why E. (possibly 343/Ekindu) says Thats right, i was a man, although i dont i think i could wear skin anymore. Here comes the big bit, The marines have gone to an area near a Weapons Cache, where E. cant attack them or hurt them. Now Weapons cache, sounds familiar doesnt it? Now the one marine who E. doesnt hurt or spew gibberish at (possibly another reclaimer) goes to meet the captain near the weapons cache, Then E. goes crazy and startes shouting, dont open that door, i know you men like big flashes and noises, but you dont want to see whats behind that door. No dont open that door, no no NO!!!!! (or something to that effect).
So to recap, Humans find a covenant excavation on Frigid, they defeat the covies crash on Frigid go inside the Forerunner building. Their AI is corrupted (possibly by 343 GS) and starts to attack them with his "Fancy new repair drones" (Sentinels) They open the door to a Weapons Cache and release the flood, oh -blam!-e, there goes the galaxy, which is where Halo 2 comes in, the humans beat back the covenant, find out about the flood and decide to use the rings, possibly keeping Humans on them, thus destroying the flood and covenant but keeping the humans alive.
