I doubt that this is John Doe is one of the members of the SPARTAN program. The Captain says...

"I'm not going to risk transporting volunteers, so I'm afraid I can't send you anybody to help. We can send some cold weather and recon gear."

If JD were a SPARTAN II, regardless if he/she had the MJOLNIR or not, he would not need anyone to help. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the SPARTANs find other UNSC personnal as extra weight in combat? I believe even John-117 says such a thing in HALO: The Fall of Reach way before they even received the "improved" MJOLNIR.

I doubt that this JD fellow is a SPARTAN II.

what do you mean concluded

He means that by the date stamped on the most recent Enkidu Message, the events depicted in Halo have already occurred and Master Chief should be heading for Earth.

Thanks to Proe for giving some specifics on the Spartan II's MJOLNIR deployment. If we want to believe that John Doe is a Spartan, he seems to be one of the nameless three missing from the reported events.

If the MC can blow up a Forerunner installation; survive an onslaught of Covenant, Flood and Sentinels; and outwit a Forerunner AI Construct then I'd like to see what the JD can do on Frigid. I'm willing to bet he does something quite pivotal in terms of Halo 2, like maybe reveal the location(s) of Covenant forces, add to Cortana's intelligence on the Forerunners or maybe just be reinforcement for Earth against the Covenant. If John Do dies, I'd be very sad.

Re-reading the transmissions earlier, I had a brief flash of insight and felt I should post the idea I got. Could those tremors be the glacier breaking apart? Re-awakened Forerunner robots and the Flood plus the fighting between the Covenant and the humans...the ice might just not be able to take it.

Perhaps, but then, Cortana always called for reinforcements during hairier parts of the game.

Oh, by concluded, he means that Halo was over - blown to dust - dead- desecrated - utterly inexistant - you get the idea.

I do not think Zk315 was trying to say that because Installation 04 was destroyed September 19, 2552 (76+ hours from the landing) not September 15.

You have a point there.

Well, the MC hopped out of the time anonomly on Sptember 13th. Therefore, by the 15th, Halo had already transpired and it had not transpired. The Master Chief had popped back into the 15th, and since he was in the present, and Halo had been destroyed in his past, Halo had theoretically already happened. But to the other Master Chief of the present, Halo had not happened. That's why both of them are true. Time travel is fun!

Umm no, educate yourself. I never said anything to stitch untill he called me arrogant, for punching holes in his 'theory'. Like I said go back and read the posts.

Go back and look at the posts stupid head, I called you ignorant because you think you know everything about the Forerunner while Bungie is the only group that can claim that. Lots of common sense, right, sure buddy. You do live up to your name though, making a lot of noise. Better stop before someone mutes you.

I am almost certain now that JD is not a Spartan... the evidence suggests JD is someone with great survival skills, but the evidence is also leading away from the spartan theory...

1) "Sailor" - there have been many posts suggesting that the Captain now realises that JD is a Spartan who are part of the Navy...
*buzz* try again. Every member of the UNSC Lebanon is part of the Navy, JD was believed to be a member of the crew. Now that Captain Mathers has found out that JD is not part of his crew the term "sailor" was a sarcastic one... this doesn't mean that JD isn't part of the Navy, he/she could still be ONI, etc...

2) Spartans physical augmentations. - The physical augmentations the Spartans recieved included skeletal and muscular augmentations... this would probably render them ineffective as undercover agents such as JD. I think the Captain would have noticed a crew member 7ft tall weighing 250kg and built like a brick BLAMhouse.

3) The Captain's Letter. - When JD read the letter to Captain Mathers, Rear Admiral Miller couldn't tell the Captain why there was such a fuss about this mission. I'm sure the Captain would have had a few theories if he'd had a Spartan or someone else special aboard. This points to JD being an undercover agent posing as a regular crew member.

4) Undercover requirements. - The requirements to be an undercover agent include being "average", someone that will not stand out in a crowd. I fact I believe MI6 recently said they would only accept agents within a certain height range... kinda rules out a Spartan.

For me, all the evidence points to JD being an undercover ONI operative sent on this mission because ONI was particularly interested in the results. The letter to Captain Mathers confirms pressure from above... and why wouldn't ONI send an operative to make sure everything went smoothly?

Also an interesting line on the HBO story page "Their people are everywhere..."

[quote]If the Forerunner AI can take over Enkidu, and we all know that 343 survived Halo, will Cortana be in jeopardy in Halo 2?

I don't think we need to worry about Cortana losing to 343, she's a big girl :-) I don't know if you've read First Strike or not, but in that she sliced and diced a Covie AI. Those guys are wierd. She did it fairly easily too, once she caught him. But it is an interesting possibility.

If every person on a navy ship (i.e. the Lebanon) is a part of the Navy, then how the hell did MARINES get to HALO? Some navy ships carry marines, but others don't? The marines are the groundwork of the army, no reason to assume that the Lebanon didn't have any. I still think its simply irony, playing on the fact that they no longer "sail" anything.

new terminal metatags: Marathon, Halo, Bungie, Enkidu, fanfic, rampant AI, seismic analysis, abnormally strong magnetosphere

"fancy schmancy neural implants"? is that ONI, or is that a SPARTAN?

So the Forerunner has a built-in mechanism to prevent the flood from escaping the planet: anything that tries to take off is sucked right back down.

The new terminal suggests that Frigid might have a different way of containing the Flood, instead of wiping the galaxy clean, it has this unusally strong gravity force that doesn't let anything off the planet. And the line about neural interfaces, sounds like a spartan, but didn't Keyes have a neural interface as well?

All UNSC Forces have neural interfaces. Spartans have special ones, ONI operative probably do as well...

Yes, but do they support AI interfaces? I thought that was a special feature only Spartans had... hmm, mabe not.

Anyway, not a whole lot of mystery in this new one, looks like the flood are dead, killed by E, no one can get off the planet, and E refuses to shut off the containment equiptment until JD goes down and helps him clean up the mess. Anyone read between the lines and catch anything else?

Well, after a brief anylsis, I rckon that this: "You just don't understand. After what they did to me back there, after what they did to you back there, they killed off any loyalty they deserved. We don't owe them anything, even if they were still alive. And they're not." Sounds like he's talking about the humans. I'm curious what exactly he's talking about. Maybe the wrong done to Endiku is putting him into the forerunner terminal, which probably nearly killed him (needed to patch himself with pieces of old forerunner network code), or maybe it's unleashing the flood, making him go rampant, or something else. Whatever the case, he's pissed. What did they do to JD though? A series of bad operations? Maybe kiddnapping him as a child? Probably something much worse. Neural interface does make it sound like he's a Spartan, or that's just what they want me to think... You know, ONI is located mostly on Reach, so those may be where his orders came from, also. And what of Captain Mathers? Is he really dead?

The Covenant forces are a wreck.

And now we know why Frigid is safe for storing flood. As a matter of fact, it is a fortress world, just like Halo in some ways. And in other ways, Endiku has become it's monitor. Good for him, he get's into one giant network, a little bit of power, and the guy goes beserk. This is getting exciting again. And no one guessed that the tremors were related to the flood not escaping. See, this is what I'm talking about when I say that you really won't know till you see it. Although, maybe these terminals will end with the shutting off of that security system. That would be a freaky ending.

What do you think E. is referring to when he says "After what they did to me back there, after what they did to you back there, they killed off any loyalty they deserved." It seems like he's pissed at the brass on the Lebanon, but back there could be something else. It also seems like Enkidu is getting increasingly desperate about the situation, but there's still just not enough information, it's a blast speculating about it though.

I think the following excerpt refers to the Fleet Command back on reach...
You just don't understand. After what they did to me back there, after what they did to you back there, they killed off any loyalty they deserved. We don't owe them anything, even if they were still alive. And they're not.

I thought it was the Flood at first, but it doesn't fit very well. I think that Enkidu knew about JD's secret because both JD and Enkidu were augmented, modified, or something by ONI... I still don't think JD's a Spartan, maybe ONI created augmented humans able to blend in for use as spies?

EDIT: about three of us thinking the similar things here...
