Ok bear with me in first strike Cortana ran into a covenant Ai she finally caught it and started to destroy it and got down to its core code and I will Quote this.

"Cortanas curiosity over this odd proclamation would have to wait forever. she tore the AI apart, erasing, recording the Covenant code as she destroyed it. This was analogous to a dissection, and it she did quickly, efficiently, and without remorse----until she found the AI's core code.
She halted.
She almost recognized this code. The pattarns were maddeningly familiar. No time to pond why, though. She recorded it and then wiped the original. The covenant AI was gone its bits safely hacked apart for and stored for future research."

Ok cortana says it is maddingly familar maybe because it used to be what is left of Enkidu the good one maybe it is just me but I am probably reading these books to much.

It could be familiar because they copied/stole it from previous forerunner tech, as it is quite popular to quote around here, "They own nothing they have not stolen."

And we all know she spent some time in a forerunner network.

Just my thoughts.

I've read FoR and The Flood, but apparently I need to buy First Strike. I feel like I'm missing out on something here.

Btw, this topic has by far the most posts. I'm sure this is quite obvious, but isn't it a little worrisome that we are devoting so much time to analyze these terminals? They are pretty interesting though...

I think that Bungie (or whoever is the author) should take this as a huge compliment, the fact that this will have probably over 2000 posts by the end and we have all (at least 200 people) devoted our time and energy to analyzing this story. Just an affirmation that WE LOVE HALO!! and that we are all too damn anxious for Halo 2...

I think that these stories and games are more addicting than heroin and cigarettes combined. I need my fix, WHERE THE -BLAM!- IS THE NEXT TERMINAL?!?! lol j/k :)

hey guys - we've done good stuff here, i have a completely unrelated question though - i just got home from college, and my brohter now has an xbox, so we're trying to link them together, with poor results. I have a CAT5e (RJ45 male to male, 10/100/1000) networking cable connecting them. What's the deal?

That question has nothing to do with Enkidu. So take it somewhere else.

totally off subject but I'll reply... The only cable that I've gotten to work is the actual one made for an XBox. MY neighbor works for the telephone company and he said that the wires are arranged differently within the plug of the cable for an Xbox. To get a standard ethernet cable to work with the XBox you'd have to do some manipulation with a new plug (flip wires around). Even he didn't want to botrher with it so we hooked ours up with the official cable.

Don't yell at me, yell at microsoft. they are good at making you buy their stuff. : )

I know that this is from an old terminal. And it has probably already been said. But something someone posted reminded me of it. Some one posted about Halo fitting around Frigid. And Tatarus said that the blue energy shooting across Halo could connect with some in Frigid. That reminded me of something noted in the terminal "Whether Forecast". In the middle it says, "We are exploring the grounds of [a] large building, apparently very ol[d]. It is shaped like a very broad, split arrow head pointin[g]_ into the sky with a diamond-shaped gap in the face. It seems to ha[garbled]. When I heard that I pictured the beacons in Halo that shot the blue plasma across the middle of Halo. It very well could have something to do with that.
Agian, I am sorry if this has already been mentioned. I just had to say it.

This is exactyl what I was trying to say.

I'm just gona answer the poor -blam!-
A CAT5 wont work with out a hub to cross over.
Its less hassle to just get a system link which crosses over on its own

cjassassin & XIsle,

I was thinking about this AI that Cortanan encountered on the Ascendant Justice a long time ago but I just couldn't figure out how it could fit so I put it aside. However, i think that you are onto something here. i think that the AI Cortana found is the one that we have seen here on Frigid. The voices seem to be just like what was described in the passage from First Strike.

If you look at message #22 the tree's trunk is also made up of the "child-like" voice or what is the root support of this multiple personality AI. But how could it have gotten aboard the Ascendent Justice? If what was on the ship was the same AI that we see here on Frigid, that means JD dosen't repair the junction box and the AI does not get away. It also means that the Covenant get to the middle of Frigid and they obtain this "thing" that is there. If they copy and steale all forerunner technology, they take this AI that does not escape.

That is the only plausable explanation if the AI's are the same.

Right, if the constructs are the same. But it could just be that the similarities are between the AI on the Ascendant Justice and the systems on Halo.

I mean that if the construct Cortana found on the Ascendant Justice is the remnants of Enkidu, that your theory would fit. But what if it's just a regular Covenant AI? Based on the fact that the Covenant harvest Forerunner technology, the similarities could just be between the AI found on The Ascendant Justice and the systems Cortana encountered on Halo.

It's a stretch, I know.

True. but I'd think if it was something from the halo, cortana would have paid more attention to it. Ya know? Plus, she never encountered an AI in the Halo network. this was an AI with a personality that she recognized. We can't really say, but my gut is telling me there is a connection, we just don't know how yet. Maybe if they posted another message we could figure it out. Where is the new message anyways?

I'm not saying that there isn't a connection, I was just examining both sides of the coin. She might have run across the code for 343 GS or encountered him upfront in the Halo networks.

I'm reaching again, but it's a possibility.

Yeah, where is the new message?

I understand Cain182 and I agree. We can't say anything for sure.

Yeah where is the enkidu message? Where is all the other stuff that Bungie also said they were going to give us as well. Someone must have parties too hard last night.

Okay, I’ve got a couple theories about why the Covenant AI code seemed familiar. Bear with me,

In FOR pg 235:
"An AI's matrix was created by sending electrical bursts through the neural pathways of a human brain. Those pathways were then replicated in a superconducting nano-assemblage. The technique destroyed the original human tissue, so they could only be obtained from a suitable candidate that had already died...At Dr. Halsey's insistence, ONI had arranged to have her own brain carefully cloned and her memories flash-transferred to the receptacle organs. Only one of the twenty cloned brains survived the process. Cortana had literally sprung form Dr. Halsey's mind, like Athena from the head of Zeus."

Also, in FS, pg 128:
"'I [Dr. Halsey] supervised the creation of the template for every third-generation smart AI on this planet. I know everything there is to know about you"

Basically this means that first, every AI, human made, has been overseen by Dr. Halsey, and second, Cortana basically came from Dr. Halsey's mind, having her memories. Cortana also thinks that the AI on Ascendant Justice was one of many copies made using the copying code. This means that the covenant most likely found an AI and copied it and distributed it out to all its ships. But the question is where did they get the copy of an AI? There are two possible reasons as to why Cortana finds the code maddeningly familiar. One, the covenant got a human AI and somehow converted it to be loyal to the Covanant and then distributed it around to all their ships. So when Cortana ripped it apart and examined the code, it looked familiar because Dr. Halsey knows everything about AI's and Cortana shares her memories. She probably recognizes the basic structure. Or Second (this is the crazy one) the Covenant found a Forerunner AI and somehow converted it to be loyal to the Covenant. Here’s the connection: Cortana finds the AI familiar because Human brains and Forerunner brains might be similar. This goes back to the debate over whether humans, covenant and forerunner are somehow interrelated. When the AI matricies are made using the method used above, the result is similar because Human and Forerunner brains have similar structure, therefore proving that Humans might have come from Forerunner! Weird

And here we digress. Most of this is heavy speculation on the familiarity of this Covenant AI, mentioned in FS, to Cortana, that will be cleared up with the release of the next couple terminals. What I fail to see is the relevancy this bears in relation to these terminals. If we are still trying to work out who Enkidu is by dredging up obscure references to the main Halo plotline, then these several hundred posts have been in vain.

We can wait.
