do you think this mysterious JD character will be the special character the bungie team keeps mentioning in the halo2 updates??

definately not - the Bungie character is "top heavy" and some other things that have an alien feel to them - when they talk about animating the secret character, the animation doesn't sound human like. I personally think JD is going to die at the end of these terminals.

here's a list of spartans we know of...
http://halosm.bungie.org/story/characters.html

I'm not convinced that it is a Spartan though

This link reveals "William-043" and "Kelly-087" with no pertinent information, i.e. no special rankings, no MIA or KIA records. "Linda-058" is supposed to be revived following Halo. Second in Command Frederic is not listed as MIA or KIA. Lastly, 3 nameless Spartans are away on other missions at the time of the Fall of Reach. Although we are told that all the other Spartans are dead, it could of course be quite convenient to list an MIA as a KIA under certain circumstances. SENTRYWALK was supposed to patrol, scout and protect Reach prior to its Fall and then Lebanon ends up crashed on Frigid after an attack by Covenant forces with no transmissions back to command. If a Spartan were deployed on the Lebanon (see list above) command could have looked at all of the facts presented to them and declared that Spartan KIA. The idea of JD being a Spartan, therefore, is not out of the question although it may be much less likely than some other answer. If somebody can give specific info on the list of names above for me, I'd be much appreciative.

As for the "secret character" that's supposed to be top heavy, I'm reminded of the Flood spore carrier, the guy that would blow up and release the squidies. They could've retooled that thing to be more disgusting and freakish. Also, in the recent GameInformer expose` on Halo 2 they make mention of some Covenant force that might be a huge beast capable of flipping Warthogs. The odd mechanics they could be speaking of for "the secret character" could be a primarily quadripedal, top heavy beast like that. Just spitballing ideas, I'm not that serious about CENSORED character ideas from the Frankie updates. :-) I'm more interested in what weapons I can play with.

Anyways, the massive void is according to Mathers a method for absorbing shock. So, beneath the void would have to be something sensitive that required massive shock absorption. Also, this could be tied in with the quakes they felt earlier. We know that the Covenant like to mine for more artifacts, so perhaps their method of drilling involves huge impacts (quake causing) as opposed to jackhammering to break up materials and the Covenant also know there's something useful down there. But, if that is the case, then the shock absorbing void would be stymying the Covies so we might see it before they do.

Or, totally unrelated to that theory, Mathers could be wrong about what the void is for and it could be positively massive because it has to house something positively massive. I'm wondering if perhaps we might see a Forerunner ship.

I believe in one of the terminals between Captain Mathers and John/Jane Doe, Mathers indicates that JD is the only one that Enkidu will say anything useful to. Is there any indication anywhere as to why the AI seems to "like" JD?

During all these messages from the Captain, it seems that this John Doe is alone...

Now ... in the latest terminal the Captain says...

"I need you to go up to the surface and set up those instruments" and "Be careful up there. For all we know there could be a hundred Elites camped out on top of that platform. "

If there was a possibility of there being "hundreds" of Elites... why would he send a single person? unless this person was capable of taking on such a task, i.e. a SPARTAN II.

If this John Doe were not alone, wouldn't the Captain have acknowledged the fact before somehow? For example, saying the word "team" or "unit"

I'm just throwing out ideas...

I didn't really want to push the JD as Spartan theory too much before, but I'm really starting to agree with it. We more or less know that JD is involved with military intelligence (read: ONI) which covers the Spartan program as far as I'm concerned. 33 individuals are supposed to have made it through the Spartan II program and Mendez went of to train another group of Spartans about 22 years before the Fall of Reach, meaning that we really have any number of Spartans running around. According to the Halo story page over at HBO, only 25 of the Spartans were used in the MJONIR project, so if John Doe is a Spartan, he doesn't need to be suited up and thus could be used easily as a spook, since he'd fit in much better than an armored soldier but he'd still be plenty capable of...well, what he does to the Covenant on Frigid. Although the idea that JD is a Spartan is just as likely as any other theory we could throw out in the long run, I'm starting to believe it.

Would a Spartan II need cold weather gear? I think that statement pretty much rules the Spartan II angle out, so all we got for Spartans is the rumored Spartan III project that probably doesn't even exist. Great, those folks on Frigid are screwed.

In one of the earlier termanals Enkidu says something about not fitting into JD anymore. I might be wrong but this would lead Me to belive that Enkidu was embedded with JD. Like Cortana with Master Chief. Just my two cents

Me: "OMFG, Dude... wtf!"
AbolitionofMan: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to betray you."
Me: "That's the 4th time in this game alone!"
Chris: "Third, besides he had the flag I was trying to stop him, how was I supposed to know you were there."
Me: "I said, 'I got the Flag, don't shoot.'"
Chris: "Well those Wraith shots take a while to reach you."
Me: "You were right next to me, I had killed him and a minute passed before you decided to shoot."
Chris: "Hahahahaha, yeah... that was great."

Well, besides the fact that one person seems to be doing a lot of 'suicide missions'......Cpt. Mathers also calls him... "Sailor". The Spartans are all Navy....not Army or Marine. So this would fit. Also, we've really never encountered a really hot or cold enviroment, Halo was all around all over the place but no extremes....perhaps the suit can't sustain too long in one extreme or the other. Then again, if they can take the vaccum of space they should be able to withstand it's cold too... hmmm. This is getting more and more interesting....

I'm a little confused, I've been reading all of the posts since this console first appeared and I'm not sure why there is a discussion about a spartans suit not being able to handle the cold environment. If it's in reverence to Enkindu desiring to get the crew inside the building because they would freeze that doesn't necessarily imply that if JD is a spartan he would also have to enter into the building or risk freezing.

If there is something else I'm missing please inform me, maybe I missed a page or something... :)

That's true MoDa...but I thought all of the remaining Spartans after survining the testing and enhancements all received MJOLNIR armor? Didn't they... me thinks I should go through the book again... well.... if JD did have the armor....maybe something happened to it? Damaged and couldn't repair...?? I'm reaching here guys...

Wait just think, the spartans just got the new suit in the first book but before the suit they had black suits that could wistand some major tempatures but not like the M armor though. but yes the M armor could have some glitches or something because nothing is perffect.

Why wouldn't a Spartan II have MJOLNIR? Did all Spartan II's have it or just some? I don't have TFoR (I only have Halo:CE and FS) so I don't know whether or not they all have it. I was just assuming that they all did. And we know what assuming is......

Yes they can but they need the proper tools that are custom made or something as stated in FS and not to mention its a real bother trying to get those back ends off.

It was Augest 18, 2552 when the follwing was to occur...

UT 09:54:32 08.18.2552
"Captain Mathers is going to perform a slingshot around the primary sun. This will allow him and a skeleton crew enough time to refine the trajectory using our remaining thrusters and make what repairs they can. You can understand that this is risky.

In the meantime, you and your team have been ordered to finish reviving the remaining crew and to collect survival gear. You must finish evacuating the Lebanon no later than 12:23; the Pelicans' launch window closes then. I recommend you proceed to one of the Pelicans as soon as you can after reviving the crew. Use the lifeboats only on Captain Mathers' order, as some have been damaged in the battle. "

It was August 27, 2552 when the SPARTAN IIs(except for three) met in the briefing room in FLEETCOM Military Complex, Reach (This was before John-117 was issued the MJOLNIR).

John-117 did no receive the MJOLNIR until August 29, 2552 and the three SPARTAN IIs were still unreachable in time for his mission.

JD was still on the frigate during this time.

If JD were a SPARTAN II there is a good chance that he did not receive the MJOLNIR.

If JD were a SPARTAN II or other series, It is possible that ONI and Dr. Halsey could have equipped JD with the MJOLNIR before MC, but I doubt it.

Most likely (if JD were a SPARTAN) he did not receive the MJOLNIR due to them being "stranded" for the time being....

The last terminal (#16) was logged on September 15, 2552, weeks after "Reach" was destroyed, but before the landing of addtional UNSC personal from the PoA on Installation 04.

Just throwing out ideas.

they are very cut and dry, and not trained in the subtleties that ONI spooks would be of being undercover.

Now, WHY would you bother with undercover skills if you were superhuman?? :D Just had to! :-)

Anyways, about the cold weather gear, if JD is one of the spartans that was too far away to get the mojolnir, that would explain, also if JD isin't a spartan that would too.

Now wait a sec, your saying. How could he not be a spartan? What about that '100 elites' comment? Well, that was just stating a fact.

Remember that earlier, JD was told that he would have to go on this mission alone as they couldn't get anyone through the Covenant lines to him, and now that he is at the elivator Cpt. Mathers is just warning him by using an expression - pointing out that they have no idea what's on top of those elavator doors or what he can expect outside - by saying 'for all we know, there could be 100 elites out there'. He is simply warning JD to be ready for anything, as they have no intellegence about the location he is going to.

Oh, by concluded, he means that Halo was over - blown to dust - dead- desecrated - utterly inexistant - you get the idea.
